From: Aaron Levy /me thinks someone ^ doesn't understand satire Lets be real... Satchmo wasn't saying Fuck you...he meant it as res-fu just like he said. That's how I saw it even before he explained. Your just using this as an excuse to start yet another drahma thread regarding the ResMods. There are plenty of other valid opposition arguments that are very valid that you can use instead of reaching.

From: Aaron Levy I was offended by the "FU" because "FU" doesn't mean "kung-fu" to me, it's mean "F*** YOU".
So since everyone is supposed to respect everyone elses definitions of what offensive is -- like "moron" being offensive when it isn't at all offensive to me, I request that the ResMod that said "FU" be removed.
But wait ... who's standard are we going by? Oh, THAT'S right... The new powerful allmight knowitalls -- the RESMODs. Now your just being silly. Moron is an insulting term, in this context. Regardless of if you feel it's a "bad" word or not, the intention is to be insulting - as was absoultely clear in this thread. However, fu, in this case, did not mean F-you. It just didn't mean it. So you can't decide it's offensive and have a leg to stand on... it would be like saying I find the word "jelly" offensive to overweight people, or "dark" being offensive to black people, used in no sort of context whatsoever. Of course, since you admit your being a smartass, I don't know why I'm bothering...

I think it would be very funny and well deserved if the Mods closed some of the threads with a hearty fuck you.

For what it is worth, the thread wasn't closed for the word "moron". It was closed because since I've been a resmod, that particular thread received the greatest number of AR's from people complaining about personal attacks. It wasn't one person or post, but residents complained about multiple posts being personal attacks, and they were right. The whole thread was flame/troll bait and wasn't heading in a useful direction. As for what I said, you can pull anything out of context, but do a google search on "FU".

From: Aaron Levy /108/71/86364/2.html#post877523/108/71/86364/2.html#post877523Did the resmod who closed that thread actually say, " This thread has outlived it's usefulness and is being closed with a resmod fu roundhouse kick." "fu" is internet jargon for fuck you. Is this the kind of behavior we should be seing from ResMods?! Anyway, I hardly see calling someone a "moron" as a personal attack. I took that fu as 'kung fu' not 'fuck you'.

From: Siggy Romulus I took that fu as 'kung fu' not 'fuck you'. So did every other forumite, inclusive.

From: Jake Reitveld I fail to see how calling someone a moron is NOT a personal attack. Very good Jake, i was hoping someone would point that out.

Well given that the poster whom was tossing that 'moron' comment around has contributed so much else to the forums at large with such gems as: /120/94/64212/1.html/130/59/62593/1.htmlI really don't have a problem with the locking of that thread, although I am glad said poster self-outed his new alts, considering he seems to have closed out the 'Boyfriend Bailly' account. Hi Business Mission/Prism Shilton/Pleasure Semple/Boyfriend Bailly nice to see the intervening months have led to great personal growth and building of maturity.

Jeska was one of the first on here to make clear to me that... I should indicate satire clearly when such, because the way things come across in writing can be just obscene. Eeep. One time, I was almost warned for making a personal attack against Bel Muse because I posted pictures of an alleged "club" that she was spamming the gridverse with. We're friendly, it was done as a joke! But, to those who didn't already know that, I certainly see how it could have been misinterpreted otherwise. (Anyone who cares can dig the thread up.) Jeska gently suggested I indicate this is satire, so I did... which, on one hand, may have taken away from some of the "edgy" comedic effect, but on the other, didn't confuse anyone as much as it would have otherwise. So, that's why I like to ask questions, to find out intentions. Saying what we know as the English F-word in Thailand may get some funny looks, because phonetically, it means "squash" there (as in, "pumpkin" . Saying "key" in Thai, tho, means a certain excretable term here. Penn and Teller pointed out this type of thing excellently... Sarcasm, difficult to convey, but I'll say that I'm hardly ever sarcastic. Any questions about where I'm coming from, can of course be asked. I commonly prefer to ask about someone's intentions instead of assuming! It gives me the benefit to learn more about them in the process.

I hope you aren't suggesting that you can get away with personal attacks by enclosing them with <sarcasm> </sarcasm> brackets. <joke>Rodney Avatar is a fucking braindead idiot! He has sex with his children!"</joke> doesn't make this pseudocode bracketed parts not be a personal attack, nor does it make the words and ideas acceptable for a PG area such as the forums. The forums are not a private form of communication. People who want to have private conversions, with all the freedom and expressivity that makes possible, should use private means, such as in-world IMs (which aren't totally private, they are readable by the Linden staff when the need appears) or off-site methods such as email or messaging services. From: someone From the Forum Guidelines: Private discussions – the forums are a public area for the Second Life community’s use. Individuals who have a dispute with each other have other channels of communication to discuss their differences or communicate – private messaging, IM within Second Life, or chatting within Second Life. Also, threads that are addressed to a single individual or group are inappropriate on the forums, this includes slander or "naming names" in a posts title, starting polls about a particular resident or group, etc. So if you have some in-joke to tell between you and another party that looks like it breaks the rules, you should start out by using a private method of communication. The purpose of the Second LIfe forums is " These forums are here for you, the Residents of Second Life, to discuss your ideas, questions, and projects and to share what you’ve learned. ", according to the Forum Guidelines. Not to tell in-jokes that would be better told in private.

From: MaryLee Marshall I hope you aren't suggesting that you can get away with personal attacks by enclosing them with <sarcasm> </sarcasm> brackets. No, not at all--I'm recommending clearer communication. The specific incident I referred to included an injoke, but at the cyberzeitgeist, it was certainly not exclusive to a select few, nor did I want it to be. But anyone wandering in deserved a gentler intro, I do agree.
