Kitchens and Bathrooms in SL homes?

The same goes for practically everthing in your SL home. Your AV never tires of standing for example, windows aren't needed as there is no weather to keep out... Etc...

Sounds like a good time to mention that I have a small range of kitchen/bathroom items amongst the other home furnishings available at my store (see signature for details).

My guess is that a lot of people who have come from Sims Online, where you need such things to keep your character alive, and have continued that mindset here even though it's technically unnecessary.

Sure, if you have a big mall or casino, you don't particularly need these things, but when someone is building a home, as many do, then its necessary - but of course there is also the prim space problem. Hence things like my one prim fridge, one prim microwave, one prim cupboards, and two prim working washing machine.

My home is a glorified sandbox. I put the house around it so the neighbors have something pretty to look at. It does not have a proper door, let alone a bathroom, a kitchen or even separate rooms with their own designation and purpose.

Exactly. There is nothing illogical about having a kitchen, a bathroom, a garage, or whatever. None of these things serve any useful purpose, but then on the other hand, neither do walls or floors.

I suppose kitchens are useful in the sense that they give other people something to feel superior about.

I have generously provided SL with toilet facilities for nearly 3 years. So, instead of releasing a load as you fly over your least favorite sim, just head to DeHaro and stop by. Lines can be long in the evenings and on weekends. I also suggest that you bring your own 2 ply, because the neighbors hate when you strip leaves from the local foliage.

Yes. The room has a table with kneeling cushions placed around it, and is a great place for informal conversations and RP. I occasionally use the wood stove and other props in the room in RP, Moving about the kitchen as I converse with people who are seated at the table, serving them tea or meals, etc... all as part of roleplay. The scene sets the mood.

I have a kitchen and bathroom in my house. I can honestly say, it never gets used. I don't role play with my lady.

The thing is, a house to us doesn't look right or feel homely without such things lol. I build and texture the kitchens myself and sell them in my store. I have only built two so far,but they are flying off the shelves and one of my best sellers, So i'm guessing alot of people do have kitchens.

Some place that looks pretty is not bad; it's the entire point of building. Otherwise we'd all just sit on empty land (and why even bother owning it? You could sit for free on Linden land!), or hover in the air.

A proper bathroom would be great. The toilet is a nice, quiet place to sit for a while and think about things. Even aside from its essential functions, you need a toilet to have a real home.

Sadly, I don't currently have a bathroom in my SL builds, because I couldn't find a toilet I liked and hadn't bothered to make my own yet. For my deserted tropical island, I'm going to put a roll of TP on a stick by a hole in the ground.

I've got a barbecue, with mustard and ketchup on the wall next to it. Not only does it provide PROOF that my house isn't underwater, but you can sit on it!

I do build my prefabs with rooms that are intended to be used as bathrooms and kitchens. However, I try to build them in such a way that those rooms can be used for something else if the buyer doesn't want a bathroom and/or kitchen. Simply solution really.

My home will have a kitchen in it (when it gets furnished, too many other irons in the fire right now) for one simple purpose; The presence of a kitchen, especially a nicely appointed one fits well with my SL persona - a bachelor renaissance man with a modicum of good taste.

Well my SL houses has a kitchen & dining room as it was built into the house and I really couldn't think of anything else to put in there. BUT I don't have a bathroom, guess I just have to hold it!

Never mind kitchens or bathrooms, I've never felt the need for a house...

SL is not RL.

For me, at least, socialising in SL does not involve poseballs and such.

So, I don't need a house. I have never felt the need for privacy in SL, so I don't even need walls.

I have a space I control, where I can play and experiment with this virtual world, but there is no need for kitchens or bathrooms to do that.

Others do as they wish in SL (and that's one of the great things about it - the freedom) but, again, SL is not RL.

my homes here have always had a kitchen and bathroom. (and garage) i can't even imagine a home without these rooms.

Only house I built with a kithen and bathroom was a recreation of my RL house to try out paint colors and furniture placement. Even then the bathroom didn't have a toilet.

Lately when I've designed houses I think about the function of each room. Gathering place, building area, art display, sit-and-enjoy-the-view, etc. So far relieving oneself and eating haven't come up.

Zap, for the love of god, SL is for sex. Haven't you ever done it in the shower or on the kitchen table? OF COURSE you have to have a kitchen and a bathroom! DUH!?

The ONLY reason to have either a kitchen or bathroom in SL houses is if they have appropriate sex ball furniture in them.
