for now i will stay.. because ive put so much into creating a beautiful open sim... but i will spend less and try to earn more in sl to afford it because unlike many of the full sim owners .. as in life everything else does cater to the rich... so does sl..... fair has never really been an option if you think about it.. unfair but if you think about it the prices we pay for computerized pixels is much to high to begin with.... and we do it anyway..

I plan on dumping my OS sim and keeping my full sim.

I'm also planning on stay in SL. All those running for openlife will find it very disappointing.

If they raise the rates on the private islands, I'll have to evaluate that then.

Rented and Homeless- Some of my SL history.
10-30-2008 08:36
I live (for the next 21 days anyway) on an Estate. It had over 45 sims with many OpenSpace areas. They were public to the landowners and were perfectly lovely tropical ocean/beach areas. No overloading here! The openspace sims were just that OPEN space to give a great view to landowners. We even have our own Governors and Estate Police force, it is like a real country. I moved to this place from almost the day I was rezzed. First I shared with a RL friend, eventually we bought more land adjoining our plot. We ended up with 3 adjoining lots with a pond, waterfall and an oceanview, What more can an avi ask for? When RL and SL issues caused my friend to have to move I kept my ocean front lot. I can still see our lovely waterfall from my back windows. But alas, our estate owner, who ran this huge estate at a personal loss every month!, is done. His heart and soul have given up on SL because of this. Dozens of his loyal residents are now going to be homeless or forced to find somewhere else to live. He is being upfront about everything and giving us plenty of notice, thank goodness. I shudder to think of people who live on estates owned by less honest people. I cannot imagine living on the mainland, though i do own a small 512m plot,(which is why i cannot imagine living there!) So here we are being punished and evicted through no fault of our own or the estate owners.... feels a bit like RL... LL gives you something you want at a certain price then raises the fees on the back end causing you to lose it all. I am so sad and angry, it is just too bad. I am afraid now to actually go out and find a new home, as I cannot tell whether any other Estate will even be there after this mess. I suppose I will have to talk to other landowners/renters and try to find somewhere. Meanwhile I will go around and take as many pictures of all the lovely openspace sims around this virtual world before the owners are forced to abandon them and they go poof, like my beloved home Irukandji.

Poll
10-30-2008 08:47
Well in relation to the poll, I should clarify that the increase hasn't directly affected my pocket however it has affected my decision to get an OS, which is now taken a turn to a final decision of no longer purchasing one. certainly NOT at this cost.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but I have lost the bang with SL long time ago for a lot of reasons, my store sells the same stuff for ages. I don't have interest in building to more than to myself anymore.

I'm considering selling only in SLX, or renting stores and put classifieds with the tier money.

Your not alone there. A lot of sellers over the years phased out their inworld shops and only focused on SLX and OnRez.

My Estate owner got raped so he returned the favor
10-30-2008 12:39
I have 5 Linked OS Sims that is used mostly as a role play area.

I am not the estate owner..

After the news of this up in charges the estate owner decide to bail. All of his OS Sims will go back to the Linden's after their Bill date. This kinda sucks figuring i just paid tier one day before The Lindens decided to tell everyone about the rate hike. The Sims will go away in less than a week. i asked about my refund on my tier that i paid they made it clear as soon as the Lindens return the down payments he would be more than happy to return my tier.

So i thought i had lost it all. (Thanks Lindens)

Yes i can appeal to the Lindens for my tier to be returned (but didn't they just SIM jack all the owners at Prim Point). YEPS.

So i guess it is my bad timing an honest person using the Sims for what they were designed for. I Just lost 600 USD in real money plus close to a 1000USD in real money paid for landscapers and designers to make the role play area.

But in a careful bout of talking with this estate owner. He did say that if i paid him for all that he lost in down payments and all the transfer fees. Then he would give me the SIMs.

This amount is more than the lindens would charge me. It is pretty clear that the estate owner is going to take me to the cleaners since the Lindens did him... But why would i pay more to this Estate owner. Well i wont have to hire PPL to come Rebuild the Sims that have the skill set that i do not have.

And Hey Fair is Fair if the Lindens can Stick the Estate Owners then the Estate owners Can Stick the Renters as well.....

It is not just the Estate owners that are getting hurt... It all trickles down hill.
OOOOOHHH i hear that all the time "They call it trickle down economics..."

Well, SL is basically a dystopian society.

My RL girlfriend got a quarter of a mainland that was not jacked up yet. And to be honest, I HATE NEIGHBORS and not having estate controls anymore.

On a lighter note, if SL does allow grandfathering before the year's end, I'll move back to my OS and sell the mainland I got at a lower price than the Land Barrons are forcing upon the refugees from this mess.

Oh we are too going to buy mainland. Why the heck would we inject a 3rd party into our financial future with real estate in SL.

Dumping my Openspace. Instead, I will make sure to get the "maximal value" out of my full sim.

im not going to do ll's bidding. no doubt this was the whole reason they started the whole 'anti-adfarm' initiative. they want to compete with estates by bankrupting them all and moving everyone over to bay city, nautilus, and other mainland parcels. i cannot be a part of that in good conscience. id rather rent, there is less at stake. i dont trust LL in any way at all. they will bury me with overblown tier blackmail without a second thought. they will devalue my land holdings at a whim. im not too keen on giving ll any money fullstop.
ll has taught me id be better off going basic and cashing out every month rather than paying estate tier and expanding the estate.

I don't think people will be trusting Linden Labs for a loooooong time.
