I like the ability to flip the sculptmaps on the X and Y axes (some things require inside-out sculpted prims, and this just saved people half their upload costs), but is this something that all viewers will be able to see, or just 1.21? From my experiments, it seems like that's not the case...
Please confirm/disprove. Thank you.

Wish I could pin point the crashing, no rhyme or reason, even lowered usual settings. Turn *crash* click *crash* search *crash* high traffic, low traffic *crash* Was talking on the phn, my avie sitting staring at a blank wall *crashed*

It's too bad, it all looks promising, yesterday crashed so many times I almost got a headache bothering to try and figure it out. Today, less but still unexpected pauses and crashes.

Love the new features. Viewer seems to run smoother than 1.20, to me. But I have been having an unusually high rate of crashes After my region updated server to 1.24.3. Not sure if that has something to do with it.. I was able to stay in game over night with it. But since the server update, I can't keep it running for more than an hour. Off to the JIRA to do some poking around. Cheers. DD

I'm getting 10 FPS less in this RC. Same sim, same textures, same graphics settings, same everything.

Main reason why I'm waiting for RC1 to come out before I start poking at this iteration of the RC.

I am getting client crashes with this RC0 too. I normally get between 6 and 10 hours of crash free runtime here. It looks to be sending crash reports so I will keep running it hoping to amass some useful information for somebody to dig through. I don't see any patterns to the crashes except they seem to happen when I select. First one was when I selected myself to edit my profile. The next was when I selected an object I built to recompile the script in it.
Camera movement is ... different. I don't know how to describe the difference so I will just get used to it.
I knew something annoying was missing but not what until I read the notes. ___________ (Release Keys) is no longer in my face. I never did use that button deliberately.
I am going to miss the Beacons shortcut. I hate noisy shoes and want to know to whom the mute goes.

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8744http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8834LLSetPayPrice does not work with 1.21 RC in some sims running 1.24 server. Doesn't work for me in Caledon on Sea with the Rent-o-matic scripts to pay the rental fees. No pay showing up on the pie menu. Additionally not working in other Caledon sims, either. It *does* work for me to fall back to 1.20, as well as others. That's stated differently by one person on the Jira, but for me 1.20 gave me the pay option for the rental meters. Oddly enough, my vendor units are not affected. *major problem that needs fixing - economic showstopper as far as I am concerned* Otherwise, this is a very cool RC, and the detectedtouch, sculpty, and group moderation features are fab. edit: I see now its related to being in a child prim. Major problem for lots of vendor and rental scripts!

Taking Hi-res screenshots of certain scenes is totally broken with 1.21 RC0 (was semi-broken with 1.12.15). For more information, look at this JIRA page: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-4825

Seems the teleport hubs aren't working properly any more. Using RCO on Second Life Server 1.24.3.95195. Will post later when we have our Mono results.

Glitch
08-29-2008 23:30
I found some glitch, that I'm sure was unnoticed by most. Look at the tail. What do you see? This glitch is as well on the 1.20 final release. I think it affects only flexiprims.

My name in Chat is a clickable link
08-30-2008 00:50
Has anyone else noticed that their name in blue in Chat is a clickable link to their Profile. Have read release notes and can't find any mention of this.

From: Flaran Riggles Has anyone else noticed that their name in blue in Chat is a clickable link to their Profile. Have read release notes and can't find any mention of this. That was added in 1.20 And Shin, that is because your tail is an alpha texture and the wall is an alpha textured. They compete, it's an awful SL glitch.

It sure makes hair with alpha textures look funky when standing in front of something with an alpha texture on it. Searched the jira for about an hour with no luck finding something on it, so I created one for it. here's the number for it, VWR-8874... It's been around for a few viewers now, but something that definitely needs to addressed at some point. Perhaps after the physics...

It's the alpha sorting glitch that has been there forever and is present in all OpenGL applications - it is not an SL issue - see endless discussions in the texturing tips forums.

low fps and hud issuse
08-30-2008 01:22
I can confirm the lower fps about 25-30% lower. Also it is impossible to detach HUDS which are in the lower part of the screen.
RenderAvatarMax something is functioning properly and that is a perfect option when doing a runway for 80 people watching.

Spacing of chat lines is very annoying.
FPS is approximately 1/3 lower on the RC than on 1.20 with identical settings. However, textures seem to load quicker and sculpties definitely rezz quicker.
Good features: - removing the Release Keys button - opening profiles from names in IM/chat window (adding a TP button to the IM window would be a useful feature - maybe even 2, 1 to TP to them, 1 to TP them to you) - restoring the Tools menu - renaming the Connect button to Enter SL - a tiny point, but it describes what the button does more accurately
Generally seems just as stable as 1.20, not crashed once.

In an RC0 release I personally would expect a significant performance drop (read lower fps) than a production release as there will be more debug code in there.
Remember this is effectively still Beta software. RC0 is not normally released by software houses.

Reproducible viewer freeze
08-30-2008 02:29
My linux version of the RC client always freezes when I reach these co-ordinates: Scepter'd Isle 230, 156,36 or thereabouts. Unfortunately, this is on my land - it's just outside my front door. The log entry just before the freeze is always: WARNING: setType: LLVolumeParams: etType changing bad path ( note that the line is never completed. On the assumption that it may have something to do with the viewer volume control settings I've played with them, but to no effect. I've also played with the sound settings on the land, also with no effect. Does anyone else see this behaviour ? Edit=== In the 1.20 mainstream viewer, I see the following in the log when I reach the same location, the viewer stutters, but doesn't freeze: WARNING: setType: LLVolumeParams: etType changing bad path ( WARNING: LLVolumeMessage::constrainVolumeParams() - forced to constrain incoming volume params: 0x0005 Any thoughts ?

I have a very strange problem with mine, It is as if I am communicating on an old Teletype Terminal (TTY) I can type ahead no problem but the characters appear at a rate of what feels like 1 per second, in both Chat and IM. I can type ahead and hit enter and the message will slowly appear in the chat /IM bar and then actually send, possibly a minute after I finish typing it. Everything else appears to be fine, love the give inventory by dropping on the IM window, glad the release key is gone, and I recompiled some of my club gadgets with no problem. I did not benchmark any of the scripts but perceived performance was far better.
I am away for the next 3 days so will file a jira, if no one else has, when I get back.

Hmmmm
08-30-2008 03:07
All sounded so good when I read through the list of fixed bugs and added features. I was thrilled to see some of the issues that had been affecting me had finally been addressed. Yaaay !
However, upon installing the RC 1.21.0 viewer it all went pear shaped rather quickly for me....crashes, crashes, crashes and more crashes, plus laggy ultra low fps rates.
Needs alot of work to get this viewer ready, so for now I've switched back to the 1.20 viewer which works just fine for me, no crashes, acceptable fps rates.
Keep banging on the 1.21 viewer with those bones.

What about the links?
08-30-2008 04:28
I'm sorry, but I can't follow the links... it just says ...blah... Do I have to copy the links and paste them in the browser? No way.... If you really want to communicate with someone, make it easy to receive the information.

I find the RC okay, haven't noticed anything really. I'm not sure I like the line-numbering in the script-window though, as I find it pretty useless since the cursor moves to any line that won't compile automatically. Is there any way to turn line-numbers off?
