The ninth iteration of the 1.22 Viewer, Release Candidate RC8, has been released. Please help us to identify any new bugs before it becomes an official Second Life Viewer download. If you have been using Release Candidate 7, you will be required to update to RC8. Please keep in mind that participation in the viewer Release Candidate cycle is completely optional. This viewer may be installed along side the official 1.21 viewer. RC8 includes a number of voice improvements, as well as support for OpenAL. As always, release notes can be found at: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release_Candidate/1.22While we've made many improvements, we still need your help to find crash cases and final feedback as we prepare to release the official 1.22 viewer - very soon! Please download the Release Candidate here and start experimenting: http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php#download-TestviewersDon't forget to report new issues at jira.secondlife.com, and be sure to set the “Affects Version/s” to “1.22 Release Candidate”. We are only able to investigate bugs that are reported in this way.

And before all that "bah, still doesn't work here" starts: Linden, you did a great job with this and the new server release too. Over 76.000 Users online and not the smallest lag. Everything feels sooooo mush smoother, than it did only a month ago. Now use the next release to enhance the graphics again

....and I had to download it 3 times. The first two times the installer spat the dummy.

Waitaminute. OpenAL support was added for the first time in this release, or am I out of touch and this is just fixing it? *searches around a bit* Looks like this is the first release including it? Can we have a few words from someone on what OpenAL and gstream will get us in this release? Should we be noticing more dimensionality to all SL sound here? Has music streaming changed?

You are not the only one. I look up the info in the Jira and it seems that it was asked for almost 2 years ago and I guess they have been testing it since sometime in November, maybe earlier, what it does as oppose to the old audio processor I could not figured out from the jira entries other than it's a standard.

One of the first things I checked was the texturing via the edit window - and yep, sure enough - compy freeze. Maybe when the warm Spring comes...

From: Meade Paravane I think the trick is to add a ? to the end of the url.. Without that, I just see the broken image icon. Sephy must presumably find that it works for them without the question mark, since she said she made the links clickable, but didn't include the question marks. And someone further down thanks Sephy, so img tags without the added question mark presumably must work for them. (Unless they're just messing with our heads. ) I just viewed this thread in Internet Explorer 7, and it showed broken image pictures in Sephy's post.. In Flock, img tags without a question mark make the links vanish entirely. You wouldn't know they were there unless the post tells you they are there or you quote the post, in which case you see the raw text in the edit box. I just installed Greasemonkey for Internet Explorer, GM4IE, and fiddled a bit, and got Strife's BBCodeInText script working in IE7. I've been waiting to see someone report how to do this for IE users, but so far I don't recall anyone reporting having done this. So now on those sad occasions when I have to use IE7, I can see all the links and vBcode properly formatted. Of course I've just tested it a few minutes so there may some problems I haven't seen yet but maybe some IE7 users will get them fixed. Note that I did not write the script, Strife wrote the script, I just finally got up the oomph to get it to work in IE7. Of course for all I know, tons of people have done this already and I just don't know about it.

*sigh* the textures seem to be worse for me, both sculpty and prim. Some are blurry and some aren't.
I still cant click on other people's objects to identify them, is this just a Release Candidate thing?

I sat there for 10 minutes waiting for someone's sculpty dress to quit being a bunch of bubbles. I'm also seeing sculpties spending a minute or so in bizzarro mode. I think sculpt texture priority needs to be bumped back up.

I think sculpt texture priority needs to be bumped back up. They did that and people with non sculpty textures whined that they're textures were loading slower, the issue of texture priority is really a lose-lose for LL since if they raise one's priority they have to lower the other's.

Ok. then let me state the obvious then In DISPLAY SETTINGS they need to add another slider. By default set at say 50% for sculptie rezzing. then whichever you prefer (perhaps due to your location) you can tweak this either way. Everyone happy

Everyone happy === EDIT === Oh, and I desperatly DESPERATLY want a slider on screen all the time to adjust my draw distance. I must go into my preferences about 20x a night to adjust that.

I think there are still significant texture-loading improvements in the fix pipeline, some server-side, right? At least in my experience, for both sculptmaps and surface textures, these past couple RCs already have been big improvements over, say, 1.21, where image download was just unusably slow.
(It actually would be handy to have a tear-off control with the draw distance slider; I too find myself futzing with that a lot.)

From: Gordon Wendt They did that and people with non sculpty textures whined that they're textures were loading slower Only when they were in an area with a bodaciously insane number of sculpties. Even in a sculpty-heavy build, the number of sculpt textures is a small fraction of the number of regular textures, and since sculpts generally have custom baked textures to match they have as many regular textures as sculpts. So I don't believe they had a real issue. Textures are loading slower because they broke something with texture loading in a recent security fix, not because of sculpties.
