No problem installing
10-03-2008 03:15
CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (1866 MHz)
Memory: 2045 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (Build 2600) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce 8600 GTS/PCI/SSE2 I just installed from the main SL window with no problems. Biggest irks are edit, texture window freezes my client up for 30 secs or more when clicked. And I am getting random freezes again...which I was not getting with the last RC. So far...I have not run into any other problems ![]() |

We expect this to be the final Release Candidate in the 1.21 viewer series, barring any Showstoppers that you may find. Please of course continue to report new issues at jira.secondlife.com. Set the “Affects Version/s” to “1.21 Release Candidate”. We can only investigate and solve issues that are reported there. Hopefully there will be at least one more. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9384 really needs sorting before this version goes live. |

after 1.21...
10-04-2008 03:06
Thanks for your answer Ramzi...
Nice to hear that: Hi Diver, the comments and "Fix Pending" status of VWR-3336 indicate that it has indeed gotten attention. It is a feature/fix that is undergoing internal testing now and will be part of a future release (after 1.21 Viewer). But this Feature was already announced in a old 1.18... and it works great for 2-3 days! Then it was de-aktivated and never comes back! ![]() Now, it will come back in a 'future release' Hehe... ![]() In which Version? 6.19 RC 37 alpha? ![]() Ok ok, only a Joke! ![]() I hope it will back/re-aktivated in the NEAREST Future! cu... |

RC 4 seems to run about as well as the main viewer for me.
However, I am noticing a new problem with ALL viewers...windows are scrolling too quickly. Inventory, zooming on the map, scrolling in the Chat or Comm windows...all very very fast. _____________________

Has something changed with how jackets are displayed.. I have an armidi top which has text in he areas of the texture which were not visible.. as of tonight, having downloaded this viewer, my legs and arms are covered in "copyright 2007 armidi" Also.. wearing any socks causes my avatar's entire lower half to be one solid colour. I am also having this problem, socks make my entire lower body turn a solid color, and jackets are not looking right on my avatar, like parts that are not supposed to be displayed are now showing. This is just happening since I started using the latest Nvidia drivers 178.13 WHQL dated Sept. 25 2008. Also having the scroll bars not working on the search window for groups and All, making it impossible to search properly. |

EDIT: fixed!! All you need to do is MANUALLY delete the secondlife directory from program files and download a fresh copy of the RC, install and then play ![]() |

Not having an installation problem but am having a usage problem, generally whenever I log in now since installing the new 'required' RC I can't teleport anywhere, and when I can. teleport that is, my view is of the new locale but the viewer thinks I'm still back in my original destination.
ie. the title of the region at the top of the screen remains unchanged and when I log back in to my last location it's to the original place I logged into NOT the place I was last in. Any idea why I keep timing out in teleporting to different sims and why logging into 'my last location' ignores any new place I do happen to reach? |

We are releasing the fifth iteration of the Viewer 1.21 Release Candidate (RC4). Please help us to identify any new bugs before it becomes an official download for Second Life. . Actually, it is the 4th iteration. RC0 was the first one, and RC1 was the first iteration, etc. I know...picky picky picky ![]() _____________________

For those experiencing install errors...
10-07-2008 09:11
I tracked down their cause on my machine - Previous SL installers would make sure all SL-related DLLs were unregistered and unloaded. This one doesnt do that right. For every DLL it doesnt unload cleanly and tries to overwrite windows wont let it and causes a write error. Same SEEMS to apply to files opened by those DLLs also but thats not certain from my observations.
My solution? Reboot the machine (making sure all app/SL DLLs are unloaded) and re-run the installer. It will say this version appears to already be installed, just say "yes" to reinstalling it. No write errors. Fix for this issue is in the installer, not the RC package that its is trying to install. Edited to add: Just reconfirmed the solution with the latest RC5 too. Download it, reboot install it == no errors. Without the reboot, DLLs locked -> wroite errors. |

RC5 had slow texture loading compared to 1.20
10-07-2008 10:54
RC5 is running well for me with only short freeze ups. no crashing unless I switched to full screen mode. but that has always been a risky move on a Mac.
getting 25-40fps or higher in some places with high graphics settings but textures and trees are slow to load again as reported here for RC0: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8978?ticket=ST-1895-n3NsIgHMFHhuvoDc7DLaLjBhbkVmFosXfKk-20 While flying around random mainland areas, including Linden Village, many trees, textures and sculpties would not load properly unless I clicked on them or if I 'bump' the Maximum Bandwidth slider in network prefs. Even then, some textures are refusing to load. In spite of slower than usual texture loading and all the other reported bugs for 1.21, this is the only usable client for my Macbook Pro, it does not lock up the system or require a hard restart after 40-50 mins of operation. Unless I run SL, iTunes, Logic Pro 8, Nicecast, TextEdit, Safari, iCal, Activity Monitor, iWeb and Mail all at once, then it crashes. ![]() ![]() |
