We are releasing the fifth iteration of the Viewer 1.21 Release Candidate (RC4). Please help us to identify any new bugs before it becomes an official download for Second Life.
If you have already been using the Release Candidate (RC3), you will now be required to update to RC4 with the latest bug fixes. But, participating in the Release Candidate viewers is completely optional. You may install this viewer side-by-side with the official 1.20 viewer that you normally use.
In RC4, we have repaired the most pressing bug you reported regarding inadvertent Touch_start events on mouse-clicks. A complete list of fixes is available in the Release Notes: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release_Candidate/1.21
Please visit the Test Viewers page to download the 1.21 RC4 viewer: http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php#download-Testviewers
We expect this to be the final Release Candidate in the 1.21 viewer series, barring any Showstoppers that you may find. Please of course continue to report new issues at jira.secondlife.com. Set the “Affects Version/s” to “1.21 Release Candidate”. We can only investigate and solve issues that are reported there.

Non Installation of 1.21 RC4
10-01-2008 16:44
Raised a ticket and tried support chat, but they do not support Release Candidate problems. So if you want to do any scripting with Mono compiles you are stuck

OK, I found that, after the failed install, I had to boot into Safe Mode and log in as Administrator in order to delete the RC install folder that was left behind.
I then rebooted normally and the install worked fine using the same file I had downloaded earlier.
Hope this helps someone.

Scroll bar in search not working
10-01-2008 16:59
I just downloaded and started trying it out not bad so far, but one thing I have just noticed on this version is that the scroll bar on the "All" & "Group" tabs of the search page are not working not matter what searches I try. The scroll bars on the other search tabs do seem to work just fine. It looks like they use to different types of scroll bars.
Also just noticed that the "Showcase" tab appears to be all black, but seems to be working despite the color. (By this I mean that I can see mouse over events change the cursor, and when I click I get a landmark to come up)
Hope this help you get it fixed...

So far as I can tell, I still can't use a version of Catalyst beyond 7.11 without having distorted text in the File Edit View World menu. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3947 Ugly font rendering in menu bar after upgrading to ATI drivers 7.12 Hardware Skinning and Avatar Cloth are both disabled unless I upgrade Catalyst beyond 7.11.

Folks, if you are having that much trouble running the Release Candidate, which is TEST software after all, you can go here... http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php... and just get and use the current production release viewer 1.20.16.

How does one get the previous RC3 to log onto SL?
I really need to continue my Mono development... and the RC is the only way to get to it.

Lapis- can you tell me if you are using Full Screen Mode (ie, this is set in Preferences > Graphics > [_] Run Second Life in a window.) There is a known major bug affecting Full Screen mode-- see https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5749From: Lapis Loring I just downloaded and started trying it out not bad so far, but one thing I have just noticed on this version is that the scroll bar on the "All" & "Group" tabs of the search page are not working not matter what searches I try. Hi Jessicka, to respond to your highlighted issues: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7334This is a bug that affects only residents who have chosen to reduce particle counts to 0. I agree- there is legitimate reasons to do this, and cloud ruth avatars should not be dependent on it. We actually attempted a proto-fix in 1.21 RC0, but it had unforseen artifacts. So we are back to the drawing board and still designing a potential fix. It won't be fixed in the 1.21 viewer; it requires more time and testing. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8862We are hearing conflicting reports from Residents on this bug. For some, the Framerate has been suitably restored in later iterations, RC3 and RC4. Our internal benchmarking on multiple platforms also doesnt indicate any unsual drop in framerate. We will watch the statistical data of average framerates in the coming days to see if this is a widespread problem. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1509This is a scaling issue with the server architecture that supports Groups. Unfortunately it is therefore beyond the scope of what a new viewer can hope to resolve. Our server engineering team continues to evaluate possible solutions in its scaling plans. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7937This is really a feature request, rather than a bug. The Advanced menu (originally a "Debug" menu) has always behaved in its current form, and was intended for developers to tweak certain settings during a session. You are right, there are legitimate uses for persisting such settings. This will be beyond the scope of fixes we can provide in viewer 1.21. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9373This is a new bug you reported recently. Can you post the crash log that you get so that we might investigate? https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5529You are correct-- this is a small but very annoying bug that has been around for a long time, at least since version 1.19.0. The good news is, our engineers recently investigated and proposed a fix for it, but it is in its testing phase and not ready for release in the 1.21 viewer. We'd ask for your continued patience while we tackle the many bugs which make it difficult or annoying to use your Second Life.. we are making progress! Sometimes not fast enough. From: Jessicka Graves Exact same post from RC3, none of it was even mentioned at all \o/

From: Jay Karlfeldt So if you want to do any scripting with Mono compiles you are stuck From: Satori Taringa How does one get the previous RC3 to log onto SL? You can use the RC3 if you change the "--channel" option on the command line.

Getting RC4 Installed after failure to Install
10-01-2008 19:35
1. Reboot computer because RC4 install does not finish, it is sitting there, causing problems 2. Uninstall RC3 from uninst in Second Life Release Candidate directory 3. Remove any files left and then the Second Life Release Candidate directory 4. starting from here restart the downloaded file to install. 5. Unfortunately you lose all your setups you had before, but it installs. For all those who want Mono development.
