Has something changed with how particles are emitted from a trihedran primative.
I've a sparkly running inside one of these primatives that's semi-transparent and this RC4 shows the sparkly on the outside of one of the faces where as before it was inside.

No problem install or logging on Vista x64, well until I went to switch to full screen mode - crash big time. Still seeing a pretty hefty drop in frame rate, and increase in packet loss, when opening the map, and https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9351 is still present (although it's been assigned so is hopefully on track to a fix - small but annoying) Overall except for the map bug, I don't really see a decrease or increase in frame rates, still a slight memory leak, although it looks greatly reduced from some of the previous builds.

Hmmm, in light of Chaos's post, maybe I should mention that I'm running on the 64-bit version of Linux (and running fine, as I mentioned earlier), so perhaps 64-bit OSes are handling this better. Wouldn't be the first time that a 64-bit OS was more stable...although it's certainly a reversal for a 64-bit OS to have better compatibility

If you can't get the RC to run and/or install, and you need to do some mono development, you can use the beta-grid client, and tell it to log into agni.

Has something changed with how jackets are displayed.. I have an armidi top which has text in he areas of the texture which were not visible.. as of tonight, having downloaded this viewer, my legs and arms are covered in "copyright 2007 armidi"
Also.. wearing any socks causes my avatar's entire lower half to be one solid colour.

install fine on XP, gesture fixed, back arrows on HUD's dont pull, memory leak still
10-02-2008 00:52
Never had an install problem, Though many of the fixes i see corrected, like gesture order, but back arrows on HUD still doesnt work or pull, when you add and remove huds daily is it an important feature. There still is a memory leak but as stated above slower than earlier RC's., yet not as memory efficient as some older like 1.19.0(5) and that is still got a memory loss, but since no dazzle the program takes longer to crash of run out of memory. You know i like seeing grey people as they rez in, I know who is coming, why the special dazzle mist and glitter, when all it does it take up processing power and video. Soon my 2 processors will not be enough to login! Video is shaky as it is!

From: Ramzi Linden Hi Jessicka, to respond to your highlighted issues: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7334This is a bug that affects only residents who have chosen to reduce particle counts to 0. I agree- there is legitimate reasons to do this, and cloud ruth avatars should not be dependent on it. We actually attempted a proto-fix in 1.21 RC0, but it had unforseen artifacts. So we are back to the drawing board and still designing a potential fix. It won't be fixed in the 1.21 viewer; it requires more time and testing. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8862We are hearing conflicting reports from Residents on this bug. For some, the Framerate has been suitably restored in later iterations, RC3 and RC4. Our internal benchmarking on multiple platforms also doesnt indicate any unsual drop in framerate. We will watch the statistical data of average framerates in the coming days to see if this is a widespread problem. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1509This is a scaling issue with the server architecture that supports Groups. Unfortunately it is therefore beyond the scope of what a new viewer can hope to resolve. Our server engineering team continues to evaluate possible solutions in its scaling plans. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7937This is really a feature request, rather than a bug. The Advanced menu (originally a "Debug" menu) has always behaved in its current form, and was intended for developers to tweak certain settings during a session. You are right, there are legitimate uses for persisting such settings. This will be beyond the scope of fixes we can provide in viewer 1.21. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9373This is a new bug you reported recently. Can you post the crash log that you get so that we might investigate? https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5529You are correct-- this is a small but very annoying bug that has been around for a long time, at least since version 1.19.0. The good news is, our engineers recently investigated and proposed a fix for it, but it is in its testing phase and not ready for release in the 1.21 viewer. We'd ask for your continued patience while we tackle the many bugs which make it difficult or annoying to use your Second Life.. we are making progress! Sometimes not fast enough. JIRA 7334's problem also happens when you turn off particles via the Advanced > Rendering > Types > Particles, just turning off particles in any way removes the avatar. The egg's that were made instead of a ruth avatar were funny at that nightly, but certainly wouldn't work, and I've yet to see something wrong with the Ruth avatar o_O better then particles. JIRA 8862 is a hit and a miss, sometimes it's aggressively laggy (to the point of crashing), other times it smooths out to at least 10-14 FPS, not as good as the 20+ I get on other viewers, but a lot better then the 1-5 from the first RC's of this series. JIRA 1509, well, what you said is an understatement. It's been a consistent bug for more than 2 years, one of the longest running bugs, and I honestly don't think it's ever going to get fixed, I guess the team who made it, made it too complex for themselves? Not trying to rag on you Ramzi, just saying, this is an extremely long-standing bug. JIRA 7937, I know it's always acted like that, just keeping it on the map as a problem. JIRA 9373 Crash logs are being posted as I type this, check'em out yourself, or I hope someone does, and I hope they help o_O though all you have to do is turn the stated on and off to crash it.. JIRA 5529 - It's been a reported bug for about 7 months...just recently...oof. Well, I like you Ramzi, always have. Always up front, and give me a lot to discuss amongst friends, if they don't read this themselves, they'll be glad to hear of the news b(o.o)d. albeit all is disappointing. =/

Install Failure _ write errors related to Mozilla.
10-02-2008 01:40
From: Jay Karlfeldt Downloaded 1.21 RC4, but install fails with write errors. Same problem here. Particularly disappointing, as the the last RC was working beautifully and the smart heap library/memory leak problems had all but disappeared....

VWR-8980 is still not fixed in 1.21 RC 4 viewer. In fact, it appears that nobody has even read the Jira item since I posted it, 1 month ago.

I had no troubles with download and install on XP Media Center sp3 Still 1.21 RC4 is bad compared to the newest standard viewer 1.20.16 It is ugly in respect of frame rate and texture load rate which are evidently below those of the standard viewer Edit: Ignore what I said about the bad performance! it looks as the View Range settings were different, much higher on the RC than on the standard viewer, sorry. I am quite happy with the RC viewer now

From: Ramzi Linden Thanks for this feedback in the forums and on the jira, VWR-9467. We will investigate immediately! Ramzi (and James, if he's looking), is it useful for people having this problem to post their Help->About SL info here/JIRA? From reading VWR-9467, it sounds like this is a hard one to reproduce. If LL needs more info, I'm sure people will be happy to flood you with it.. edit: my install of RC4 seemed to go fine last night, though I haven't run it yet - TBH, this thread scares me right now!! Stats (from memory..) are XP SP2, AMD, 7800GT, IE7, 2GB.

If you experience this failure to install RC4, please do report your Environment on the JIRA issue: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9467 Please *don't* post environments here... the forum is a terrible place to track information From: Meade Paravane Ramzi (and James, if he's looking), is it useful for people having this problem to post their Help->About SL info here/JIRA?

I had no problems downloading this viewer, but running it, YES.
I have an Nvidia GTX280, and I received it yesterday. From what I've heard is that the GTX280 ran before 1.21, at least partially, correct ?
Now SL is telling me that it can't find the proper drivers for my graphics card.

Hi Diver, the comments and "Fix Pending" status of VWR-3336 indicate that it has indeed gotten attention. It is a feature/fix that is undergoing internal testing now and will be part of a future release (after 1.21 Viewer).

Still not fixed in 1.21 RC4: PRIM_SCULPT_FLAG_MIRROR does not compile. Should compile to 128 but gives a 'not defined in scope' error.

Does not support Arabic language
10-02-2008 19:31
Actually I'm one of the Arabian in SL .. What I want to say is that there are many Arabian people in SL and many have Premium accounts. And what's more is that many of this people don't even know the English language and have a hard time when they are trying to communicate with others !
We Arabian people do enjoy the sl and like to express ourselves more by being able to talk in our own language If that happened we could even invest more .. in both our time and L$

Sorry, I didn't have a chance to check in the forum again until today, This was windowed mode, not full screen, but I had the window filling the whole screen (Primary display, on an dual display system using an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro) Hope this helps. edit: I also wanted to add that this a Vista 64 system, when I saw other people were noting that if it makes a difference. From: Ramzi Linden Lapis- can you tell me if you are using Full Screen Mode (ie, this is set in Preferences > Graphics > [_] Run Second Life in a window.) There is a known major bug affecting Full Screen mode-- see https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5749

Possible solution for those unable to install latest RC
10-02-2008 22:42
After hours of uninstalling/reinstalling and generally mucking about I finally got the latest RC to install on my comp. I downloaded the latest RC directly from here: http://release-candidate-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/Second_Life_1-21-4-98167_ReleaseCandidate_Setup.exeOpened my downloads folder. Located the RC and where normally I'd right click and select "open" I right clicked and selected "Run as Administrator" (something I've never had to do, being the sole user of my XPS) I wasn't watching as it installed ~ I was expecting the install to fail again ~ but the RC is working for now. I hope this helps some of you who were having the same problem I was (failure to install fully, errors writing to files, only the abort option from the abort/retry/ignore menu working, etc.) Good luck!
