It seems the entire 26 Sim Enterprise, Utopia Portugal I thru XXVI is down. Cannot get home. Any idea of what has happened?

The rolling restarts won't be starting for another 3 days, so this wouldn't be the problem. - You'll need to contact support: https://secondlife.com/my/support?lang=en-US

That doesn't sound good.

Regions that are right next to each on the grid are rarely on the same physical hardware and aren't even necessarily at the same colo - one might be in Phoenix and the one right next to it might be in Dallas.

/me thinks you need to be talking the the estate manager/owner. This sounds more like a billing issue than a technical one. (but, then again, I haven't had coffee yet today so I could be totally full of it)

off topic response to the scale thing requiring many scripts.

The issues is not setting link params, the issues is GETTING the scale from the links. You can't.

If you are a decent scripter you can get all the 'default' size info and store it, but most use modular scripts and therefor drop a script (or 2 ... or 3) into each prim.

Even more off topic, though very related to sim performance, how about some kind of Resource Use Meter that gives a rough overall number. This number would drive market pressure to create clean things. This market pressure would reduce the piles of crap eating up CPUs.

Average users have no way to know if a thing is light or resource intensive. Education is not the key...presentation of simple data is.

Anyway, carry on fixing one or two small things things every month and adding black end code to these antique and underpowered simulator hardware.

Come on LL... make resize scripts obsolete by splitting resize from modify in object permissions.
There's no reason for "no modify" for most objects. The main reason most people do "no mod" is because they think it'll keep their stuff from being ripped. It won't.

Schedule change
12-08-2009 10:49
Heads up everyone:

A serious bug was discovered recently that is going to prevent the sim roll as scheduled. Once a fix is in place, I'll update with a new schedule.

Timing out URLs acquired by llRequestURL( ) after every Rolling Restart
12-08-2009 12:26
hi Lil,
There's a bug that times out the script URLs obtained with llRequestURL( ) after every rolling restart. I have alot of scripts that call this function, which are now wildly distributed across the grid. Is it possible to make adjustments in the server-side to prevent this from occurring this the rolling restarts.

I understand there WAS a bug with Groups not showing earlier

BUT

Since then, the "About Land" from the World pull-down (in any viewer) on Private Estate does not function... no information and no edit capability for Estate Manager.

AND

Groups are still not showing.

Is this a result of the Central Servers update?

OR

a continuation of the previous Group bug?

I think the spec for that function says that the URL goes invalid any time the sim restarts.. No?

edit:
From http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlRequestURL
From: wiki
- When a region is (re)started all HTTP server URLs are automatically released and invalidated.
- Use CHANGED_REGION_START to detect this so new URL can be requested.

Yes. It is a pain to have to re-get the URL. I don't see them changing this any time soon, though.

Thanks for the info, not sure how I missed it when I implemented the code initially. But its good to see it now, it was a showshopper for me. I will roll out updates on my own products to Use CHANGED_REGION_START.

Yeah its still not perfect but its much more manageable for now.
Thanks

There is something wrong too with music streams, many people arent able to listen to the sim-stream, because they still hear stream from last place.

If ya haven't seen/heard of this yet, there seems to be a problem delivering offline IM->email too, Lil. Doesn't seem related to very-recent work, though - been happening for a while.

Pilot Update #2
12-08-2009 14:41
Hey everyone, it looks like we've got a fix for the bug that halted the deploy earlier. Assuming it passes QA, we'll continue with the pilot this evening. I'll post another update before that happens.

Once things calm down (any minute now :-) I'll go back and address your various questions.

Thanks!

That has a lot to do with the about land issue bug going on as we speak
http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2009/12/08/post831/

I have been thru that before.. Restarted region and cleared it up.. But I wouldn't recommend doing it now until they get the issue fixed/ Seems to be a wide spread issue at this time.

But restarting region will land you on a different host so you could luck out and clear it up your self ( If you own the region or Manager of estate)

Yesh! Had that happen to me today. Had quite a few interesting (and very confusing) conversations with people that had no idea why I replied to things they wrote weeks and months ago :)

Why Run Second life when the servers arent right?
12-08-2009 16:47
Can the lindens please explain simply when you got clearly got problems with the server deploy why they must insist to run the server to the public when clearly there a problem? and if anyone new to Second life registers and then logs into the system (when the servers should be taken offline to address any problems) will make there mind up with in 10 mins that they wont like it and wont be back and Linden Labs have lost a potiental customer to Second life!

Did LL miss something because both my sims just rolled to the new versoin and now no longer display any sim terrain just a giant black hole and invisible ground to walk on lol..

Nevermind, grounds loaded now, maybe was just lag.

2 Questions
12-08-2009 18:56
1: When will the About Land info issue (http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2009/12/08/post831/) expected to be resolved?
2: How long will tomorrow's rolling restarts last?

Twice tonight when I TP from one region to another (same two regions) I end up with the new region name and co-ordinates but the old region parcel name.

Trying to tp again, or any much of anything causes a viewer crash.

Oh Joy

TP from Zugspitze to Ddalgi regions

Direct TP to Ddalgi on login ends up with no parcel info available on any parcel.

Viewer help says:

You are at 262535.7, 235182.7, 64.1 in Ddalgi located at sim2894.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.59.137:13002)
