Lil can we get the 2ed life planned outages back on the grid status page please?
Or maybe an answer as to why it was taken off?

because it would require LL to pay someone to do that. Heaven forbid. When most of the grid went down, the Status displayed Normal.... go figure. In the last year and a half, it has only been accurate once when there was a Grid issue. Some issues never make it to the Grid Status page.

From: release notes SVC-5025[c]: When taking copies of groups of prims for a coalesced item, if any prim is named "Object," the whole coalesced item will be called "Object" in inventory, even if the last prim selected has a different name. Code had an equality where an inequality should have been. (fixed) I ran into this recently and had me scratching me head.. Glad to know I haven't lost it yet. Not in that one, particular case anyway.. /me inserts standard griping about SVC-4196/SVC-3895.

Or maybe an answer as to why it was taken off? We've changed the way we manage our office's Google Calendars, which prevents us from putting it on the blog like we used to. I'll look into it and see if there's something we can do to work around the problem.

Duration and ETA on conclusion of operation per day?
12-03-2009 16:25
Lil Linden, how long is the duration of the restarts for half of the grid? You posted that it would start at 07:00 am PST. When will the expected operation last until?

can we have a fix for http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-4196 before the last "residents" (in other words, users... you know, the people who enable you guys at LL to pay your bills) leave in disgust?

...or maybe just a simple rollback to whatever version the grid was running around february 09... back then sim borders and teleports were way better.
... or at least a financial rollback, as in: refund everybody every dollar paid to LL since february!

Still looking for REAL improvements
12-04-2009 04:07
Can someone at LL focus on things that are important to residents? Like the Show Stopper sim freeze that occurs whenever people TP in or out with scripted attachments, the failing TP's that occur for people with scripted attachments, the lack of tools for sim owners to identify poorly behaving scripted objects (need to know TOTAL CPU usage since rez / sim restart)...
The JIRA is full of nasty bugs that have been around "forever" yet are getting zero attention. Why?
Please ignore the white elephant in the room.

Please fix http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-5040
12-04-2009 05:38
And please work at the 50% slower Sim-Performance at mainland sims with the new 8xxx and 9xxx servers. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-5040From one day to an other you reduced on many Mainland sims with that servers the performance of 50% as that new servers were added to the grid. I bought it as it was fast, and was happy many months. But now i am on the way to give up my sims soon if all get more and more issues and the performance now slowed down by LL itself. The Stopper sim freeze isse was gone at my sim because i optimized that i had spare time, but after that slowdown of that 8xxx and 9xxx servers its back now too, its a pain

12-04-2009 06:04
Uncontrol hand movement without myself seeing it (Bug) <--- i want to know if anyone has this problem... this is a serious bug that need to be fixed, since i don't see it in the beta rolling restart. Anyway i hope this time again, this will fix the teleport problem, we are still getting the 0 kbps when a person enter and leave the sim. (if you can't click on it, then copy the link)

From: Sindy Tsure Last I read, I though he had just found that it wasn't what he thought it was. Has something changed? It seems so. From: someone Babbage Linden: in other news, i've been relentlessly tracking down the sim freeze problem with mono scripts Babbage Linden: i've narrowed it down to System.Reflection.Assembly::Load(byte[]) Babbage Linden: which under some circumstances is taking 19ms Babbage Linden: which becomes a big problem when you have 22ms per frame Babbage Linden: and you want to load 100s of scripts in a single frame when people turn up with prim hair with resize scripts attached Babbage Linden: most of the implementation of System.Reflection.Assembly::Load(byte[]) is in unmanaged code in the mono runtime Babbage Linden: so I need to go back to profiling unmanaged code again Babbage Linden: but I'm working with the mono team now Babbage Linden: so I'm hopeful that I'll get it fixed soon Babbage Linden: I'm also talking about when we're going to implement multithreaded object rezzing in the simulator Babbage Linden: which will avoid the simulator stalling on object rez Babbage Linden: hopefully that will happen early next year

Come on LL... make resize scripts obsolete by splitting resize from modify in object permissions.

This is good news!!! From: Starfire Desade Come on LL... make resize scripts obsolete by splitting resize from modify in object permissions. I don't think they can do that.. What Babbage is talking about, llSetLinkPrimParamsNoDelay, should make the real ugly aspect of those scripts far less painful, though.

Good to hear some issues are being taken care of, but there's still a big issue that no Linden has even responded to. I've even emailed a Linden directly about this issue, no response and it's been 2 months. I'm talking of course about MISC-3088 ( http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-3088 ). Right now, the source code is always saved along side the byte code on the asset server when you compile a script. This makes it very convenient for hackers who find exploits because it allows them to modify our scripts, and do things such as remove security features from our products allowing them to resell the products giving absolutely no profit to the original creator. It also allows them to hack into vendor/update networks, and enable people to acquire products without having to pay for them. This even happened very recently, October 3rd (Several popular products including my own were made full permissions), and still not a single response on the Jira. MISC-3088 will allow scripters to save the byte code locally on their computers, that way when someone hacks the scripts in your products, they cannot read or modify them, thus ensuring product security. It's a very simple system, and in fact SL once had this ability via the PAR plugins by LGG, until LL removed the feature. ( http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-4528 ) (I'm getting the feeling that the Lindens are thinking "I'm not touching that with even a 60ft stick!" - Even though the issue was triaged almost 6 months ago) ----- PS: To those who are discussing the challenges with resize scripts. I believe something like llSetMultiLinkPrimitiveParams() would do the job. It would work just like llSetPrimitiveParams, except each command would have a target prim. IE: llSetMultiLinkPrimitiveParams([PRIM_SIZE,1,<2,2,2>,PRIM_SIZE,30,<2,2,2>,PRIM_POSITION,4,<0,0,1>]); - I'm not sure if the different list structure would make it possible or not, but it's worth a Linden looking into it. (This function would probably have to have a longer cool down time, but would change the parameters of all of the specified prims in one frame)

Right now, the source code is always saved along side the byte code on the asset server when you compile a script. If your PC esploded and you had to reinstall the world, or if you just went to a different PC, would fixing this bug mean that you'd have no access to the source code any more? If so, /me votes, loudly and repeatedly, no. edit: IIRC, Lindens in god mode have the ability to look at scripts in objects that they don't own. This, while a little scary, is probably very useful to Governance Linden.

edit: IIRC, Lindens in god mode have the ability to look at scripts in objects that they don't own. This, while a little scary, is probably very useful to Governance Linden. Same thing can happen when you're working with other codes like C++, or even PHP/HTML (If your server crashes). That's why you always backup your work. (Data storage is very cheap now. 50$ can get you a portable hard disk with usually about 250gb+, or a 4gb+ flash drive) Anyways, MISC-3088 wouldn't completely change the way scripts are saved, if that was so, then OpenSource projects in LSL would be broken. MISC-3088 would only add the ability to save scripts locally if chosen by the scripter. That way important scripts, like web interface scripts and so on could be protected from source code theft. There's also been several other suggestions in MISC-3088 on how to prevent Source Code theft, one that I suggested would keep the Lindens ability to read scripts, and keep them safe from exploits. I believe God Mode was exploited too very recently. (Around the time of the Oct.3 incident) PS: If scripts could be saved locally, then it would also help prevent you losing your work due to sim crashes and asset server failure.
