I noticed that Mono small mono scripts have longer script time than LSL scripts.

For instance (class 4 server)

20 standard Mono new scripts in an object: 0.112
20 standard LSL new scripts in a an object: 0.057

I also know that mono instances scripts, so my question is the following. Is it better to use a small script several times in an object (uses less memory as I understand) or to use a big script, and increase script performance (less script time)?

... Or am I terrible wrong all togeter :-)

Scripts can soon read what face they have been touched on, read the world coordinate of the touch, read the UV-texture-coordinate of a touch, read the direction and angle of the touch.

1 prim teleporter and elevator buttons.
Displays will be awesome.
More accurate Billiard tables.
"touch the center of the moving board" archery.
I can now poke the eye of a sculpty head!
Pets can be controlled stroked and tickled.

Gotta make a teleporter/hud that displays the region minimap, touch it to teleport/move to the touched coordinates. another face of the same prim is touched to set height.

I _think_ the several small scripts thing comes from if you can reset scripts, freeing up RAM. In general, I'd say you're better using one script anyway, and in Mono (which I believe has better memory handling) definitely a single script is the answer.

This is about to be a non-issue since the rolling restart for today has begun, but I decided to test it out anyway. I have an object and a remote control HUD that communicates with it through llEmail.

I tried it both ways: I can place the object in a 1.23 region or a 1.24 region, and my remote control will communicate with it from a different region. It does not matter if I am in a 1.23 or 1.24 region when using the remote -- it works in either.

So there is more to this than simply llEmail does not work between 1.23 and 1.24 regions, because mine does.

I *believe* (but need to verify) that llEmail may break in general on the preview grid, as we have some things disabled there to keep the preview grid, as much as possible, from "infecting" the real world. I have to verify that.

I just tried email in the main Second Life environment. I was able succesfully to send email from a 1.23 region to a 1.24 region, and also from a 1.24 region to a 1.23 region. Email between regions of different versions appears to be working.

Note that there *was* an email bug that was fixed in 1.24.3 (it was the source of some crashes in 1.24.2). However, I don't think that would have stopped email between regions.

Change on title and description at abandone land?
08-29-2008 08:32
Hi,
I am very sorry to post here but I honestly have no idea where else I should.
I cannot find any release note saying there is a change on 'abandoning land'??????

Is it me who is the stupid one here?

I am an estate manager at the third largest estate in SL.
When a parcel has to be set for sale again, I put it on my name so I can set title and description. Then I abandone it so it becomes owned by the estate owner again and set it for sale. That way the money at buy goes to the estate owner.
However now the title and description changes automatically when I hit abandon.

So is this a change in the server just forgotten to mention or is it me?

How should I now set the tile and description of a parcel?

Rc 1.21

As I didn't find another place (like so many posters here :) I use this thread for posting the issue:

Downloaded the new RC 1.21 today and - it crashes upon startup (get a blank window, then the viewer crashes).

I'm on a Mac G5 Dual-Processor with Leopard 10.5.4 installed

Thanks Kathy,
I consider myself a reasonable expierenced SL user but navigating the Jira succesfully I never seem to manage. Thanks for the link. You can imagine what this means for an estate owner with a large estate. It is simply impossible that the estate owner can to set all landtitles and descriptions all herself now.

Is your G5 a PowerPC by chance?

it seems darned hard to reproduce/replicate, but i've been watching my own network slowly shut down region by region as they update. some cluez might be here:
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-2938

but funny is my own email comms aren't prefiltered like that, so i don't know if it's related or different... i'm awaiting a sim restart at home to see if that helps clear it up.

i spent all day yesterday trying variations and retesting vends, seeing if i had a timing prob, or potential new parsing behavior - nothin'. :\ it seems centralized to my home plot, as messages are getting in but not back out... outgoing email que then? i even have empty remote vends (for portuguese translations) just across the floor from the servers, and although the servers are hearing them, the remotes aren't hearing the replies. strange! (so either it's the outgoing or incoming mail ques - or both...)

(i don't mean to sound like a bellyache ;0 but since it's shutting down my whole existing vending network... i'm just not getting the weekend that i had planned for...)

gosh otherwise it looks smooth. and am super-excited looking forward to compiling mono... :)

I'm not sure if script performance (ips) still works; it *may* work in the 1.21RC, but I'm not sure.

In any event... this rolling restart is done! At some point in the near future, I will probably stop monitoring this thread, at which point I'll say "see y'all 'till the next one."

UPDATE on email probs... looks like i fixed it on the bench! llgetemail needs to be completely unfiltered ("","";) to work. (i was sure i wasn't, but then looking closer today i found i did have remote vends making a filtered call - i just don't remember adding that! ;0)

it is a bug though, if email filtration doesn't work now from previous version - sure worked fine like that before. will this fix up if the scripts are mono-recompiled?

House Rezzer problem since upgrade to 1.24
08-29-2008 13:28
This morning my sim was upgraded to 1.24 and now my house rezzing station seems to be hit and miss. I can rezz the houses manualy using the rez-faux boxes so the problem seems to be in the house rezzing station. It was working fine this morning with 1.23. Do you have any suggestions for me. My scripter has been IMed but hasn't answered yet.

I wish to congratulate the mono team for making it possible, the ops team for a successful roll out, and all of us for getting this really nice improvement of the Second Life.

IPS, has become EPS(events per second) in the 1.21RC viewer. the 1.20 viewer, in a 1.24 sim, has nothing to display for IPS, it seems.

I had similar problems with object object emails - and fixed by removing the filter as you suggested - thank you! Obviously a bug that needs to be sorted - did you / anyone add it to JIRA?

Yes, it is there, with Showstopper priority. You should go vote on it:

Works great with vehicles but RC 1.21 client crashes like mad
08-30-2008 06:03
I just updated one of my vehicles, seems to run a lot faster in all respects, amazing difference really.

Trouble is, almost every time I go in to try and edit something the client crashes. As I don't see anybody else complaining, I guess it must be me, so I'll go for a new install.

Very happy with the performance of mono though, it's a huge improvement. (This is from a driving point of view, nothing technical, it's just 'better').

Is the other show stopper and unfortunately may be worse. Seems to be affecting non-mono scripts.
