From: Laida Laval I have another question.
If i hit CTRL+SHIFT+1 there is this infowindow. It does show me "active scripts".
On the new version, will we be able to see "active Mono" and "active LSL" scripts?
That would be a good information to keep informed about the change of usage from both, LSL and Mono. That's not a bad idea! I tried to add it as a suggestion just now but JIRA is still down. Maybe I'll remember later, or somebody (like you!) will beat me to it.

i wanted to try out mono on main grid using this old client version:
Second Life 1.20.6 (87323) May 12 2008 17:18:14 (Second Life Mono)
You are at 262706.1, 257577.3, 25.2 in Waterhead located at sim5529.agni.lindenlab.com (8.2.34.85:12035) Second Life Server 1.24.2.95174
I was unable to wear objects (so try out scripts in no-build area) because my avatar was still a fog cloud. Is it due to the old version or something is messed up? (I don't want to download 30 mb of client some days before the 1.21 release...)

Janet -- we *didn't* expect trouble; if we expected trouble, we wouldn't have started the roll-out, we would have fixed the trouble.
However, the very fact that we were doing a staged roll-out indicates that we were prepared for trouble. In other words, we didn't know of any additional showstopper bugs in 1.24 once we started rolling it out, but we have done this long enough to know that there often are things we can't find until we start getting it on a few hundred regions.

You're kidding, right? Do you have any idea how quickly SL itself goes through downloading 30 MB when you're online...?

Status blog updated again. I estimate high probability that we'll have 1.24.3 on the entire grid by Friday morning. Please cross all fingers.

Is it just me, or have people been surprisingly civil in this thread?
Where are all the posts about lost income due to down time, and that nothing works any more, and that LL never manages to get anything right and that LL should be squashing bugs instead of adding new features?
Never mind. I'm going back to recompiling scripts in my 1.24 enabled region.

Rc V2.0
08-28-2008 05:24
From: Prospero Linden Expect a 1.21 viewer release candidate shortly after the 1.24 server release goes to the grid. (Aside: apologies that the viewer and server have similar-but-not-the-same numbers... I know that's confusing.) Depending on how things go with the 1.21 release candidate, it will be hopefully within a This is a really big deal that we have been looking forward to for a long time. Why not call the next viewer RC v2.0.0 ??? I think we are talking about a big enough change to warrant a level change. How about it people/avatars? Foo Pres of Way Better Than OK, Inc.

Version numbers are both very simple and very complicated On one level, it's just a number set in the source code somewhere, something that can be changed without changing any functionality. On another level, it's something with huge psychological impact; if we release "Second Life 2.0", it will imply things, there will be blog posts and news stories, etc. This makes it complicated, and means that all kinds of people have to get involved (not just the release team). As such, we tend to just keep incrementing the last number as new releases come out. The real version change that I'd like to see us do is make the server and client versions farther from each other. The fact that they're close is a more-than-year-old relic from before "message liberation", when each new server release meant a new needed client download. Nowadays, it primarily servers confusion....

The 1/4-grid rolling restart has begun. Hosts were chosen randomly. I expect this to take a couple of hours to complete.

sooo many moaners and not enough compliments. im not that old but i do remember when updates meant grid shut down... as for those asking about giving more notice? come on people? really? mono has been spoken about for quite some time. now its coming and you guys are moaning about down time? and businesses loosing business? seriously... well if you are saying that because of down time again? i would've thought you would've taken this time of the year tentatively as you SHOULD have realized this is mono time and things happen. this is what i like to call contingency planning lol. Plan plan and contingency planning... we as consumers/ business people of secondlife should be appreciative to what LL have provided us. SL has only improved. so why moan.
Good luck team

Hi tani, I think you will find most of those comments were made 'tongue in cheek', we are all excited about MONO and if agitated at all its because it is not happening fast enough. Prospero and his teem are doing an excellent job of this roll out and in fact it will rival Havok4 rollout for the best managed and best communication.

Moin, From: Prospero Linden The 1/4-grid rolling restart is about 52% complete. And my home, Apoda, is still running 1.23 I've tried to visit the open 1.24 sandbox several times, but found them under constant griefer attacks. So my products are still not converted to mono. to 2nd Volkmar in " Prospero and his team make a gread job " /me is just impatient. ciao,Kephra

For those that can't wait for the new release client, just a reminder that the Preview Grid Viewer can be used on the main grid. http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php Put it in grid mode and select Agni as the grid.

Just a ntoe about the business being lost thing

Okay if you are somewhat serious about SL you have a website with some kind of storefront so what you can do is use one of many different sim monitor gadgets and have a status marker on your website.
also SLexchange works (folks can at least shop while the sim is down)
plus you can get groups together where each person has a mini-mall on a different sim
(as it happens im thinking of building this kind of group)
but anyway Lets Let Lindens get on with making this thing cooler instead of LARting them with details (now having a few dozen sims garbled for 9 hours straight or having the status api bit broke...)

I just want to say I think it's great moving the comments to forum threads like this, where the discussion can go on during the entire time it takes to test and deploy the new sim version to the production grid. No more 150 posts limit Would be great if all blog posts, on both status and the normal blog had links to forum threads.

My home region has now Second Life Server 1.24.3.95195
Okay 1.24.3 is clear. But what is the 95195?

Laida - the number in question is the "revision number" of the source control system. It identifies the last code change that was made before this simulator build was made. This is done so that engineering can check source control to determine whether a given change in the code made it into this version or not.
