Rolling Restart for 1.30.1

Server 1.30.1 is going to be deployed to Agni next week. This thread is for any questions you have regarding the deploy.

The schedule is:
* Tuesday, Oct. 6th: Pilot regions
* Wednesday, Oct. 7th: even sims (~50% of the grid)
* Thursday, Oct. 8th: odd sims (the other 50%)

Work is going to begin around 7am Pacific time each of those days. I will post updates at the start of work each day, and at regular intervals during the deploy.

Seems LL is ignoring SVC-4196 (SVC-3895) and related. Over 7 months now. Our estate owner is about to go nuts by the permanent of requests for a sim restart because it lags completely after a couple of days.
I must admit I am very disappointed by the lack of responses/visible action by LL on the issue.

SVC-4196 bugs me (Teehee) because it causes a pause in simulation. In other words, the simulator stops simulating...that's, like, its whole job...

What is changing exactly? This matters to everyone who has a search listing for their parcel or classified, if it suddenly does not appear any more.

You know they're not going to give us the words list...

We know that they won't, but is it a change such as.. now plurals are included? Maybe they can give us the basics on whats changing.

I am on Adult mainland, we have to have the sim restarted daily/every other day or it is simply TOO laggy to move. The only changes to the sim was the server *upgrades*

The link from Grid Status page sends u to the wrong Thread. Would be nice if Lindens put the right link in. Interesting thread on permissions but no use if u want info on the server upgrade!

Assuming the RR goes as planned, I'll take some time this week to talk to the devs and see what can be done & in what time frame.

Unfortunately we can't publish the banned word list. That would be like showing someone your board in a game of Battleship!

What I can do is suggest that the banned words relate to banned activities (such as ageplay and gambling[1]). Also, if any of your classifieds use words that are borderline controversial, you can try searching for those words to see if they show results.

Really? I don't understand the thinking behind this, Lil. You have stated that search filtering works on the basis of a list of banned words. Do you really think people won't spend the time to GUESS the words? It seems like a silly, Kafka-esque game.

Personally, I don't have a horse in this race - I don't have any sort of business in SL, and I haven't yet needed to go to an Adult sim to buy or look at anything.

But, I do have considerable background in marketing and product management, and I simply don't understand LL's reasoning. Having a list of banned words that you won't tell anyone injects anxiety into advertising any Adult business in SL - there is no way that a business can tell if they have transgressed. Are you hoping that, if you make a sufficiently vague threat, ageplayers and other undesirables will leave SL? It won't work on them, they are driven by psychological forces that such minor harassment cannot combat. I think the only ones you will harry into leaving are legitimate Adult business owners.

Unless LL does not truly believe there IS such a thing as a legitimate Adult business owner.

Is there not a simple way to test copy before use?

Providing a way of doing this would obviate the need for knowledge of the banned word list. If copy passes - all well and good. If it doesn't then at the very least you can start looking for culprit words. Even better would be feedback with the offending word(s) highlighted.

Having managed spam control for many years (yes, I remember the time before email ) I have a pretty good understanding of how word lists work - and most times don't.

Persons who intentionally mean to get around the banned word list will do so in short order, it's in their interests to do so. The people who suffer are those who get caught unintentionally.

IMHO, they are inviting gaming the list by playing "hide and seek" with it.

But, didn't mean to hijack a thread which is more properly about the new release fixes and rollout. I'm sure Lil is not responsible for this aspect of Adult policies, and those who are responsible may not welcome her speaking for them.

Yes, the simple way is just try each individual word separately as a search input. Any banned words (or for the case of adult words, if you have your Adult content checkbox off), will generate an error message.

That page saves people from the annoyance of trying words one by one, and anyone who discovers a new word that was missed can update the page. That's why trying to keep the list secret is pointless. As soon as any *one* resident notices a word is filtered, we *all* can know.

(we also list words that are *not* filtered, what dictionaries were used as sources for adult words, in what ways the search filter fails to work, and when it was last rechecked - I used to document and test software for a living, I'm
pretty good at that LOL)

@ Nika - They put the change to banned word list as a note on the release notes, therefore it is fair game to ask what changed, or for us to go *test* what changed.

This is like telling business owners, "we have rules for you, but won't tell you the rules, you'll just have to guess, hahahahahah". I'm totally astounded at the lack of support for adult businesses in sl, requiring them to guess at what words are ok and what words are not. Lil Linden, this is no game of Battleship, this is real life business for many content creators who don't have time to spend guessing. Please revise this policy.

Huh? Why do people on Adult land need the words list? I'd think that people on Mature land would be more interested in it. The concern should be that LL has changed something that puts your previously-mature stuff into the adult category.

TY, Lil. That would be very much appreciated. It's been happening for at least 5 months and, quite literally, has killed SL for me. I've gone from being in-world several hours a day to maybe a couple hours a week because of this bug.

I find it difficult to express how unhappy I am that it's gone this long without so much as a comment from LL.

Just wondering if any of the proposed script memory limits have appeared in any of the 1.3x server updates yet? or are they on any of the test sim servers yet?

These memory limits were widely discussed a few months ago:-
- a script memory limit for attachments on an avatar.
- a script memory limit per sqm of land for rezzed objects.

I thought they were due out this autumn but haven't seen any mention of them yet - i feel that i might have missed something.

Some idea of their progress would be greatly appreciated.

/me would love to find a place where the LL VPs and such gather in-world and use chat. All it'd take is 2-3 people TPing in/out once every minute or so and this issue would get a much higher priority very, very quickly.
