This is my first Child Avatar. Any tips from fellow child avatars?

First of all, I know all the rules and limitations to being a Child Av. I am also over 18 years old.

I done a lot of searching, and I just end up in the same places in Second Life. Anyone have any fun ideas for Child Avatars?

Check out the Livingtree sims. 2-sim area, very child-safe, with several merchants who sell G-rated, kid-friendly clothes, skins, shapes, toys, walk and pose animations, and other stuff. Plenty of fun stuff for kids to do there, too! Playground, fishing, swimming, camping in a tent (not for L$, just for fun), and there is a skate park on the school roof, that us fun with roller skates.

Get a scripted skateboard and go hassle "the man" in front of his place of business by grinding around his main business entrance. Maybe I'll make a child AV... I think I'd be quite the little punkass.

Lesee, with Livingtree already mentioned (thankoo!), let me add.

Funky Town: Home of HardKnock Elementary (School RP) as well as the usual home for Camp HardKnock every season or so. Usually a lot of other kids about there.

Gooney Island: Mostly boys, but still a fun place to explore and stuff.

Other kid owned and themed sims include Little Paradise, Starlight Starbright, Whippersnapper, and, um... that one that Cricket Nelson just opened. And others too.

Drop me a note inworld an I'll make sure ya get into the Second Life Children group. :-)

Malls are great places to skateboard or rollerskate. Ramps are there for your enjoyment, no matter what the mall owner says.

If the wall is blank, means it is waiting for you to paint it. if it has stuff, then they want special coverage.

No fishing signs means that fish are not allowed to fish there - don't not apply to you :)

Get yourself adopted. I have heard that there are adoption agencies in SL.

Already done... my Alt Avatar is my mommy. I have no wish to look for a stranger to adopt me :p.

Hard Knock Elementary sounds promising! Thanks for all of your tips! I will look into it.

Well if you want to be a child, find an avatar you like, dress childish, because if you look punkish, use grunge look or otherwise adult, then it's out of context.

Act childish in your animations, don't use sexy walking AO's or other model walks, because children don't walk that way.

And you can go to various places special for children, but then you'll notice it's nothing more than a playground with child targeted events.

Get adopted if you like. And, well that basically it. Try to communicate like the adult you are, otherwise people will believe you are not over 18, and file false reports against you.

Oh and the big No. 1 rule, no sexual activities. Because, well, children don't do that either.

If you aim for the extremely cute look, I can help you out with that. Find me in world for that. I can show you around various sims that sell very good stuff to get you started.

This doesn't really address your question, probably, but I would like to add it to the discussion. I wouldn't necessarily feel you have to conform to others' expectations of what a kid should be. When I first tried "growing down" I did that and it just didn't work. I wasn't that kind of kid when I was a kid so why be that way now? It works for lots of avatars, obviously, but not for me. Instead I've settled in as more of the boy genius explorer I would like to have been able to be when I was a kid. Consequently I don't necessarily go to child-themed places or do stereotypically kid activities. Allow yourself to think outside the box if you want. Some other child avs do that here and quite successfully I gather.

Why a dragon? Why neko? Why Barbie/Ken? Why BDSM? Why Battlestar Galactica? Elves? Mermaids? Vampires? Samurai? Why, why, why?

WHY NOT... try something new, you might actually find you enjoy it. ;)

Feel free to come ride the trains at Tin Teddy.

It is not a kid-specific area, but I know that a lot of kids do find it fun - there is a dragon (not too scary, he is quite cute, honest) and other surprises en route.

Try Prim Hearts sim too...has a sim full of Amusement Park with water slides, carousals, bumper cars, go-karts, log-flume ride, combat submarines, frisbee ride...and other bits and pieces. A great place to spend a few hours.

I think... if I were to try out a child AV... I'd avoid the G-rated playgrounds... I'd want to be more of a "Lost Boy"... always getting into trouble somewhere. Play up the role I never really got to explore when I was a kid myself. And definitely... "NO PARENTS!" lol...

Skateboard. Check!
Cigarette. Check! (thumbs nose at the morality squad)
Vintage rock t-shirt of a band that broke up way before I was born. Check!

I'd have a chip on my shoulder the size of Mount Everest, and my illusions of grandeur would be just as immense.

Hmm... maintaining all these alts is getting expensive though...

It's odd... to think... I use to think child AVs were bizarre... and now... I am considering the possibility of trying one... Second Life has really shattered so many paradigms in my life.

Try Make A Wish or MAW as some call it, always some thing there going on. Tons and tons of kids to play with too.

I can vouch that the trains at Tin Teddy are fun for any age Avi. I ride them to relax and look at the great scenery/builds there. I was riding the train when I spotted my Gypsy Caravan I love so much:)

Hmmm.....I'm been pondering making a Child Avi myself. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Livingtree seems to be awesome for everything. :)
