How long will it be before a resmod locks Siggy's thread?

I give it 10 minutes. Depending on the resmod.

Well, Resmod here I guess!

I'm not sure whats going on, I only just checked to see if I still had the ability to do things. I'm currently PMing Torley about what happens now.

In conclusion, I'm not touching it unless I'm told to :P.

I'm not sure! I think some things just come parcelled with the abilities we have/had. But its always been like that, and its happened to me a few times, I remember joint locking a thread with Strife I think it was :p.

But yeah, clicking the closed button on the threads opens a Reply to Thread window, just like clicking reply in a normal thread.

I was writing the post while the thread was still open, it must have gotten in after Torley posted but just before the topic was locked.

Are you not concerned that this might be seen as being hostile to your customers or do you just not care about that anymore? Is Linden Labs not concerned about the damage that will be done when this forum replaces Linden answers?

To my knowledge, that isn't possible, unless some setting was changed or admins (not ResMods) have that power. In the past, adding to a locked post (for legit mod-related reasons only) has required me to unlock the thread to do so and no such hocus pocus was done on my part to the thread in question.

If it really did get locked before my post went through, then there might have been a glitch.

Not necessarily, if Torley is truely serious about maintaining a civil and useful forum, she'll remove such threads completely along with the perps' ability to post.

We will just have to wait and see whether she's serious or not.

I locked that thread shortly before posting, it looks like Elle's Reply to Thread was up and in the process of going through just after--tight timing.

Inappropriate threads are subject to being locked or deleted as they don't help :(, I'm going to clarify the guidelines because the ban applies specifically to Resident Answers. :)

Is it possible, in this version of vBulletin, to have a forum set up such that posts don't appear until after they have been reviewed by a moderator?

It certainly appears to be the case in some versions of vBulletin, based on the existence of forums that work that way, and on the file at http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html. I'm not able to tell from that file just what it would entail.

If resident moderators can be given "approve before appearing" ability inappropriate posts wouldn't appear in the first place. Increase the size of the resmod pool until it is big enough to clear the queue.

^ It is possible but not what we want to do because of the sheer volume of posts, and it slows down conversation. It's getting difficult on the blog and that's why eventually, after our spam filter there is trained well enough and the blog is more familiar, why we want to open up comments so they don't get put in a mod. queue.

It seems reasonable to apply the ban only to the answers forum. I love this idea. It gives those of us never chosen for Live Help to offer assistance.

Good luck holding the griefers at bay, especially the ones with benefits. Your manpower will hinge on how well you do.

Golden rule of forum moderation: Lock first, comment after :D
Corollary to the golden rule: If the forum settings don't allow the golden rule to be properly applied, have them changed.
