Do you use second life for adult activities?

In a news story on MSNBC, Mark Kingdon, CEO of Second Life is quotes thus: "Kingdon said the company didn't have statistics on how many of people use the site for adult activities, but added that it's in the minority." So Vote and lets give him some statistics Link to story: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30346911/----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment added later: Actually, if he wanted statistics, he could ask a database guy to count how many sex beds there are in inventory, or total sales of the major sex bed makers, or total income of everyone with "escort" in their profile description, or just run a login poll. I think he actually does know to some degree, they claim to have surveyed the grid to come up with the 2-4% that will have to move to the new adult continent. And it would be irresponsible to plan a major policy change/new product without having some idea how it will affect your customers, and how many of them there are. (Linden Lab's main business, in terms of sales is SL Land tier. Land comes in several flavors: PG vs Mature, Mainland vs Full Island, Homestead, & Openspace. Now they are adding a new product category: Adult, and revising the specs on their existing products - what you are allowed to do with them)

I checked 'don't know' you haven't defined what a adult activity is, I am a adult so therefore every activity I take part in is adult
…hmmm, ok maybe I should have said Yes ???

From: DanielRavenNest Noe "Kingdon said the company didn't have statistics on how many of people use the site for adult activities, but added that it's in the minority." We don't have any statistics, but if we had, they would be these. "In March, it had more than 1 million unique log-ins, up from 544,000 in the same month a year earlier." The number of residents currently engaged in adult activity is a small percentage of the number of bots and residents who never log in anymore.

I said 'yes' but only because I lead a partly naturist lifestyle. I don't get up to anything very naughty, though, and my language in chat and IMs is fairly clean, with very few expletives! But, second thoughts, mere naturism isn't really 'adult', just 'mature', I think.

The 2-4% is their estimate of the Mainland area that will have to move to Ursula. That refers to the Places where Adult activity takes place. It says nothing about the numbers of people using those places. They could run a database query for residents with any Adult words in their Inventory.

Fascinating that LL doesn't say 1 million unique individuals. Of course, the general public would assume that 1 million means people, not hundreds of thousands of alts/bots logged in by a few people, plus the 20,000 that play regularly. As for adult activities, lots of people come in here to try it out, the pixel sex I mean, and once that itch is scratched move on and out of SL. The ones that stay either try to make money off the pixel sex or find the more interesting things to do in SL. Without adult activities, SL will shrink even more.

Just because the bed has sex poses on it does not mean its always used for sex, we often lay on it just to hug But as others have said we are adults so all we do is adult activities so i can use bad words in public and not be worried ill be in trouble

I have been to many naturism/nudist resorts in the US and almost all of them had kids running around naked also. There is nothing 'mature' or 'adult' about the human body per se.

Well... I voted 'No'.....because I don't. Occasionally I will find myself close to adult content or I will do a photo shoot that is decidedly less then pg rated.......but I use SL as a creative canvas and the pics I do are usually because of a contest or theme challenge. I was doing nude art work when I was 16......the adults in my life......most especially my mother, an artist, thought it was wondeful. But.....I voted based on what I understand AC to mean in SL.....and no, I really don't. Seeing as I don't do relationships in SL.....that kinda rules out quite a bit right there LOL And...don't do RP.....so as much as I have an active imagination....I don't have interest in puppeting a character in SL to act it out. And.....I don't even really go to clubs.....ever since my fave hang out shut down.....which was PG....I haven't found quite the right niche. -disclaimer- I joined an adult (vampire/sex) group (LMAO) a couple weeks ago, in order to enter their photo contest.......since joining I have popped in to the club itself for a couple different theme parties......one being the 80s and another punk. And ya know what.....they turned out to be some down right cool, fun people! My experience with clubs in SL has been one of clique'ness and I generally don't like the packed social scene. But....I actually enjoyed this place. Lots of humor.....friendly people. Sure, there was some R rated banter going back & forth but none of it was out of control. And it wouldn't offend me anyway.....the people were cool. But....to say that I USE SL for adult activities would be wrong. I use RL for my adult activities...it's way more fun

A small amount of my time in SL involves Adult activities, sometimes at Adult places of business, but more usually in private (private space or in IM). My parcel of land isn't advertised for any kind of Adult activities, and rarely does anything beyond PG happen there. Some of the items I sell *could* be classed as Adult, by a very severe censor, but as with most things, it's entirely a question of context. One of my vendors has the word 'BDSM' on it (texture and prim name), so I expect that counts.
