I have always wondered if there were any real life celebrities using SL anonymously. I guess you would never know if they were but it seems like a good place for people to be able to socialize without being famous for a change! I suspect Michael Jackson is on here!, just joking.

To answer your question there's been a senator or two who have come in mainly to do stupid highly choreographed events other than that there have been a few semi-famous authors who have come into sl to speak and do presentations. _____________________

i have it on good authority that some of the CSI actors came in to SL to see what the script was all about.

There have been some musicians in-world using their own names, but if someone famous was using SL for entertainment, they'd likely be just as anonymous as the rest of us. *shrug*

...pp. 290-291 speaks about "Real World Figures." The names I recognized were former Governor of Virginia, Mark Warner, and novelist Kurt Vonnegut. I found this quote interesting:
"As it happens, the idea to give residents a limited choice of surnames to choose from was presaged in Vonnegut's novel "Slapstick," in which everyone in America is given a new name to create immediate affiliations between individuals who might not otherwise have anything in common. This created, in effect, instant families." pg. 290 When I first began SL a year ago I heard a radio talk show host, Neal Boortz, and his co-host both mention they had SL avatars - Neal under a different name and the co-host using his real name. (Which reminds me to see if I can locate the co-host's avatar.) |
