Is spelling and grammar in chat/forums important?

Wow! Went to a Condo meeting and, two hours later, this thread is still going on!

For the record, I didn't take anything personally (except the sweet words, lol). I don't think anyone specifically pointed me out, or tried to make me feel bad, they were just giving me their points of view which, I may add, I asked for. Either I have thick skin or, I have such a big ego that I choose to believe that any and all insults have nothing to do with me. heheh

I thought that if we could vent here, tell everyone how we felt, it would leave the rest of the threads to deal with the topics being discussed. Really, it takes all kinds - different strokes for different folks, yadayadayada.

What have I learned? Messy writing is hard to read, making an effort is always appreciated, and when inworld, I should just tell people "I'm a slow typer - this may take a while".

Well Graphicguru, ive had some college education in rl and took advanced creative writing classes at Santa Barbara High School. Im not a drooling idiot and my iq is over 140 not that it matters. The government can not measure my spacial perception because its too high. I literally do not see the world in the same way as most human beings. But, i admit that my typing style is a sort of rebellion. i use it to express part of my personality that colors outside the lines.

people argue lazy typing is inconsiderate. well, to turn the tables, i think its lazy not to make the effort and read something just because its not "easy" for you. But, like so many things in life, you only see what you want to see. And, thats ok too. We take what we need from eachother and pass over the rest.

while considering this thread, i kept thinking about Stephen King. One of the most popular and influencial writers in American culture. Hes consistantly slammed over the span of his entire career for dumbing down English Literature.

However, not only do people read more posts than they write.

You are one person while your potential audience is many.

youre right. but thats not what i said so im not entirely sure who you are reprimanding lol if you wanna type pretty with all your letters captialized where they should be and all your periods and commas in a row, i wouldnt chastise you for it. infact, i dont even care i dont care what you do. but, if you pick on others for typing differently then you even tho their message is conveyed in a clear manner, then i think youre a snob, controlling and lack empathy/ tolerance. the same goes for those who would say bad spelling is an indication of stupidity. So, we dont actually disagree on that. But you feel compelled to challenge everything i say. and i dont mind. just dont put words in mouth.

Of course, empty boxes might not always be such a bad thing.

I second the first paragraph. Having skipped straight from post 3 to here, I'm sorry but expected the second. The number of pages is an indicator of this!

My quick thought probably said many times in these pages:
Readability is priority for me. I commented on a thread a few days ago. It was just plain hard to understand, but some while looking perfectly good can have entirely the wrong meaning due to a misplaced or absent comma. For the correct answer, isn't the appropriately correct question necessary?
I try to make allowances for those who English is not their first language, both here and in-world. Some in-world are sincerely apologetic when they explain they don't speak English very well but turn out to be the nicest people you could meet.

So, important, yes .. vital, no ... from someone whose typing (and spelling!) has become deplorable!

There is a certain thread near the top at the moment which REALLY needs better grammar and spelling.

Regarding other threads? As long as it is comprehensible, we don't need to be anal and picky I think, but if it is unreadable due to bad spelling and grammar, what's the point of posting it?

And thats a valid opinion, however don't complain when people perceive you as lazy (at best) or uneducated (at worst) and thus don't take you seriously. As long as you know (and accept) those ramifications then all the power too you.

My friend thought it was bit sad, she felt for the lonely ATM with only unrezzed cobwebs to snuggle.
I was thinking about next comic about the newest scheme to get our money or new uses for ATMs but I am not sure if ATMs can dispense dildoes for us to screw ourselves. lol
