Do they actually pronounce the VIII? Like "Vie" or "Vee"? If so, I would go find the book for them and then dope slap them on the back of the head with it.

Yes they do. Veee, Xveee, Eeee....the works. I have metaphorically slapped dozens of students already, I think. Last one was the one who asked me, holding a book that said "Cambridge University Press" in LARGE LETTERS on the COVER "How do I find out who published this?" - me: "It says on the cover already" - she:" But how do I know this is a publisher?" ARGH.

Wow. Just wow. These are university students. The word "press" didn't tip her off, I suppose? Did she open the book to the inside cover where it said "Published ____, Cambridge University Press" or something similar? I honestly don't know how you kept your temper. I would be so tempted to say something really regretable.
