Does anyone have an idea why my alt cant log? Do I have to run a diff viewer, or change my IP? I can log on the SL website, but am unable to get in to the world.

Davin, what happens when you try to log in with your other account?
You should be able to run either account, one at a time, from the same computer, with no special effort needed. To run both accounts at once you need to add -multiple to the target field of the shortcut you use to start SL with. _____________________

I usually suspect alts when I see someone who is really new, within a week or two who already has a premium skin, clothing from a popular designer and a profile already filled out including a good pic. Someone who just knows too much for only being here a short time. I'm sure there are cases of someone coming in with a friend who is already experienced who shows them all this stuff, but my first instinct is that they are an alt. Ha - Everyone, for practically my first month, swore I was an alt. I had only freebie items on but I was very well dressed apparently. I've never played SL before this account name so I definately have no alts =p |

If you are well dressed with a good skin and shape but still walk like a noob... you are an alt.
I was at dark alley for a bit last night... it was an alt convention! .d _____________________

I don't know I own many skins except the low cost, freebies or one's I have made myself with few exceptions of few tiny avatars and Dark Dhrama skins.
I get often my first alt Dagon Grimm mixed up with FD Spark...we both look very similar my others are little different I have to black male avatars and female one I use for creation and design purposes and sometimes exploring. _____________________

I guess that alt will never live. didnt like the last name anyway. lol |

Not being able to log in is one of the things basics can file a ticket for.
Not that it matters if you didn't like the name anyway. _____________________

I suspect an alt if I see a recent rez-day, but a filled-in profile, good appearance, and a non-newbie walk but no other AO. That's mainly what distinguishes *my* alts from other newbies. They always get a fistful of L$ to buy dollarbies and upload pictures. The latest one looks almost as good as my main, for a total cost of L$15 (including L$10 to upload a profile pic). Strong SL-fu in what appears to be a newbie is another give-away.
I've known of alts for any number of reasons... bank accounts, spare inventory, dressmaker's dummy, product testing, gender-hopping, traffic-gaming, camping, doing stuff your main would be embarrassed to be caught doing, appropriate names for RP or just a change of name to something new, escaping stalkers (or stalking), forming land ownership groups, getting a bit of peace and quiet, silent partner in a business, fake partner to deter offers of romance and of course, plain old-fashioned griefing. I've used alts for several of those reasons, excluding the more anti-social ones. _____________________

I have never understood the animosity towards alts. Until they do something unpleasant, who cares that they are an alt.
Recently we had the experience of bringing another family member into SL. She crashed on Orientation Island during the very first tutrial (you know the "This is how to walk" one). When she logged back in she was on the mainland. Um oooooops couldn't even move. Fast RL phone call to me and I was there giving her the basic how to's. The rest of the family pitched in with go here for hair, there for skin, giving her shoes and clothing. Girl looked like a million bucks inside 3 hours. Even had a profile picture and the basics filled out. ok SHe still had a habit of flying into buildings and mountainsides but as long as she was on the ground you could never have told by looks alone that she was a genuine newbie as opposed to an alt. |

This can also depend these days on who they get as a Mentor. Some mentors are passing really useful information to newbies on groups such as FreeStyle. Which means that within a week, not only will the newb have a great skin, hair, clothes, but they will also have learned a lot of skills and been to a great many shops. Of course this is much more so if they are female, but there is some male stuff around too. Very true. Hell, I "mentor" newbies when I'm asked & you can really point 'em in the right direction fast if they have some common sense...moreso if they have played any MMORPGs. then you would have thought me an alt when I fist joined within a week I had a skin (purchased) designer clothes, profile filled out, and was a dancer, also within a week I had land, premium account hehe and nope, this is not an alt, unless I am an alt of my alt this is my first and main account I have 4 alts, three are used as models, and one is male for when I do custom male skins and such That reminds me of my GFs' sister. After a week she had her own DIY "perfect" shape that looked like her..a great skin, a full /ao, real nice hair (well she is a regional manager for SuperCuts), and a full wardrobe of casual gear. Then there's a Texan in my crew who got full body tats, a good assortment of pants, a decent skin, decent boots, a motorcycle from HDCC, & I showed him how to fill up a ZHAO II in 15 minutes. I guess, now that so many ppl have used at least one MMO or MMORPG, it's gonna take less and less time for them to adjust to SL. Usually when a newbie asks ME for help, I give them LMs to Freebie Beach, and tell them to sign up on Slexchange and ONRez, then I give them a ZHAO II w/ instructions. About a week later they look like they've been in-world for at least a few months. _____________________

Running into ppls being voicey at crowded placed making comments like,
"I got banned so I'm going to be an a-hole on this acc 'till my suspension is up!" helps. I hate the alt game "teehee you don't know who Iams!" So boring, I never understand why that is so popular. Ppls start that crap, even friends and all they get is a "yeap ... nope... bye!" For me anything acting/talking/looking hardpressed makes me raise an eyebrow. _____________________
