Hi. *looks around the forum and waves*

Well, I thought this was a funny story so I came here to post it.

I was shopping on x street and saw an island advertised at 16384 meters for 1999 a week.

Too good to be true, right?

So I teleported and it is an island that is about 4000 meters, 937 prims, with sea around it. NOT 16,384 meters for 1999. 4000-something. That made me mad I know someone will be taken advantage of. This exchange followed although I thought it was another looky loo...turned out to be the sim owner. UH OH haha.

But is 4000 meters and 16,000 meters the same? Is 937 prims a 1/4 sim?

[5:41] looky loo: wow. they lie
[5:41] looky loo: this isn't 16,000 meters
[5:41] owner: hi
[5:41] looky loo: hi how are you
[5:41] owner: fine
[5:41] owner: this is 16384sqm
[5:41] owner: bu
[5:41] owner: but
[5:41] owner: is edited
[5:41] owner: with
[5:41] owner: less terrain
[5:41] owner: to keep the privacity
[5:41] looky loo: how much do you get for 1999 a week
[5:42] owner: this land is
[5:42] looky loo: 2000 linden for a half sim doesnt seem possible
[5:42] owner: 16384sqm
[5:42] owner: 937 prims
[5:42] looky loo: then it's a little bit misleading really
[5:42] looky loo: 937 prim isn't half a sim
[5:42] owner: right click this land
[5:42] owner: of course is not a half of sim
[5:42] owner: this is a 1/4 sim
[5:42] looky loo: but the ad is going to mislead newbies
[5:42] owner: 16384sqm
[5:43] looky loo: so they get all that
[5:43] owner: why?
[5:43] looky loo: because they are not really getting the 16,000
[5:43] 2nd looky loo: hi
[5:43] owner: READ
[5:43] owner: Size: 16384m2
L$1
[5:43] looky loo: yes, i did
[5:43] looky loo: they will expect prim for 16k
[5:43] owner: WHAT IT SAYS
[5:43] owner: 16384SQM
[5:43] looky loo: don't shout...
[5:43] looky loo: yes...i can read
[5:43] owner: ok
[5:43] owner: we don't lie
[5:43] looky loo: it comes with prims, if you say they get that much...
[5:44] owner: land is16384sqm
[5:44] looky loo: i didn't know you owned it
[5:44] looky loo: the ad says you get that for 1999
[5:44] owner: yes
[5:44] looky loo: they dont get the whole thing though
[5:44] owner: 1999 weekly
[5:44] looky loo: unless they get all those prims too
[5:44] owner: well islands
[5:44] owner: are edited
[5:44] owner: this shape and zise
[5:44] looky loo: yes - you should say the amount of land that they are on
[5:44] owner: to keep thwe privacity
[5:44] looky loo: and have prims for
[5:44] 2nd looky loo: (....) are you going to buy this land ?
[5:44] owner: yes
[5:44] looky loo: that's normal but the landlords usually say it's a 1600 m island or whatever.
[5:44] owner: this island is
[5:45] owner: 16384sqm
[5:45] looky loo: oh i give up lol

I - er, looky loo - left and the owner sent an IM that I was banned "in 45 sims." LOL

Thoughts?

You're probably not banned anywhere. Or, those 45 sims all belong to the same person, with the same con, and best not visited anyway. (^_^)y

I wouldn't want to rent to you either. What you were probably looking at was a homestead sim. It's very common to terraform them with lots of water in between the parcels so that people have perceived privacy. 16384 sqm is a quarter sim (Not half like you insisted) and on a homestead you get 937 prims with a quarter sim. The owner was trying to explain it to you, but you were not listening.

I have to agree with Eli.
Stating the meters in SL, is generally accepted as being the sqm's of the land.

65536sqm (full sim) Take a quarter of that: 16384
15000 prim (full sim) take a quarter of that: 937

No misleading info going on here, and I would've reacted the same.

15,000 divided by 4 = 3750 prims = full prim sim

3750 divided by 4 = 937 prims = homestead sim

Ok, trying to follow, here. 937 prims is standard prim allowance for a 4096 parcel, pretty much anywhere. Isn't that right? So, if you call it an island, cause it's by itself, or if it's part of other parcels on the sim.....it's still just a size 4096 parcel with the standard 937 prims that size parcel supports. Right?

L$2000 per week does seem a bit low, if they want to cover costs and make a profit on what is apparently a homestead sim, if they manage to rent all 4 sections.

Other than that, unless they were advertising it as 1/4 of an actual sim, rather than a homestead sim, there's no foul.

Homestead was the first thing that came to my mind when I read OP's post. I previously owned one myself. Perhaps the owner should have listed it as a homestead to ensure there was no confusion.

Perhaps an apology is warranted. Just sayin......

Yes it does seem a little low. Isn't about $L8312 (per month) standard for that size parcel with that many prims?

937 prims for a 4096 on a full sim. A homestead sim only supports 3750 prims total... so therefor 1/4 of a sim supports 937.

$2000 *is* a very good price for 1/4 of a homestead.

So, basically, you have more land, to spread out on for same # of prims. I kind of like that idea. I hate clutter.

He claimed it's a quarter sim with 937 prims.
So as Eli corrected me: It is a quarter of a Homestead sim.

As for Island: some consider an island as being an entire sim.

But if a quarter sim is edited with water around all sides of the land, it IS an island in the true sence of the word.

I see nothing misleading.

Not doubting you, Eli on it. It looks good for the renter, but the owner? That's just covering tier. What about profit?

Homesteads can be nice. The thing is... if you did raise up all the land so that all 16384 sq meters would be visible, it would be almost impossible to decorate the whole thing because you would not have enough prims. That's another reason why sim owners will make a smaller island surrounded by water.

When I had my homestead I loved it. For me, and just me....I would love it if I can buy one without the requirement of purchasing a full sim or going through a middleman.

That sure is a problem.
LL would sell way more homesteads if they allow direct buying without that requirement.
I can buy one, since I do have a full sim, yet I don't want one.

Ironic. Let's hope they change that policy.
A lot of people would be happy with the ability to buy 1 homestead directly from LL for personal use. (without the ability of renting out for instance as a condition)

In addition, just because only about 4000m was visible, doesn't really mean that is all you have access to. I would assume that you would have access to the water portion for some sort of underwater landscaping or possible a dock on the water.

My home is on 7680m of a mainland peninsula and currently about 1/2 of it is underwater. Yet, if I sold it, I would be advertising the entire 7680m but you would only see about 1/2 that much land if you came to look at it.

Yes.

It was a 4096 advertised as a 16,000 whatever.

I still think it is false advertising. It is like claiming the entire (Linden for example) ocean we look at is part of a rental parcel. It isn't. It's just the view, and we can walk through it. But we can't build on it, or use its prims. So we are not actually renting the view.

I am really doubting that based on all the info here. It seem to have been a 16384 plot with only about 4096 above water and that 16384 plot was on a Homestead sim rather than a regular sim, so it only gets 1/4 the normal amount of prims.

I'll bet you really could have landscaped under the water or put a dock over the water. Additionally, if you were given teraforming rights, you would have been able to bring more of the land up.

How do you know it was a homestead?

Oh you added more - I don't know if terraform rights came with it. He began shouting at me, and even called me crazy when he said he was banning me.

It may or may not be a good deal after all but I also think he won't be in business long if it really is a steal for the renter. And I think he could've been more polite. Granted if I had known he owned it I would have used more tact.

Read carefully everything people have posted here. The numbers fit EXACTLY for a Homestead description.

Owner says: 1/4 sim
Owner says: 937 prim
So: Homestead

When you are on a parcel, you can check for yourself, in about land - general tab. It will say if it is mainland - estate full region - estate homestead

Furthermore it will also tell you how many sqm the parcel you are standing on is.

Also: view - property lines. Now you see the true borders of the parcel, regardless if it is partially under water or not.

Yes but what if it wasn't? You are all chiding me when you do not actually know this is the case. It does sound possible.
