Aside from the venue they met in, this has nothing to do with SL. This sort of thing has happened with every online venue there is - including dating sites, telephone matching services, you name it.

"When the Insane meet the Unfortunate" is closer to the truth. Wonder if this is why he broke it off?

Exactly....absolutely no way no how. It's bad enough I had made 'friends' with a guy avatar in SL>....who revealed to me he was really a woman...ok fine...no big deal....I still enjoyed his/her friendship....sort of a spaz, great sense of humor. We actually spoke on the phone a couple times, just friendly chat....we both happened to be about to relocate IRL with our sweeties and we commiserated. Again...harmless....I knew she was a bit of a flake, but a good flake LOL

Then,....out of the blue I get this notecard from her/him that we can no longer be friends....and she/he goes into this long explanation of how she fell for me and bla bla bla. I was like....ooooookay....whatever ya freak. LOL I never responded. The note she sent so totally off the wall, no way I was gonna even risk encouraging her spaznicity with any kind of reply. People who exhibit the slightest inkling of bizarro behavior are better left to the void of anonymity.

This is way sad....and way scary....seriously...do people think? I mean please...all that baby sweetpie honeybun lovey dovey crap talk.....does anyone stop to think how completely abnormal this kind of behavior is in a RL relationship? How do they take each other seriously....I don't get it. Ok...I'm gonna shut up before I get myself in trouble here. LOL The ppor guy tho...wow...and the dog!! The poor dog!!!

This could have happened anywhere, through any online dating service or even if they had met in a bar. It has nothing to do with SL particularly. Just one person who became unhinged unfortunately and it just so happens that SL's name is part of the sensation making atmosphere in this case.

I'm curious why they kept mentioning the dog Gohgi, hehe. Several times in fact. Poor pup :(

Edit: Sounds like what Ghosty wrote, I didn't even bother to read anyone's responses first, just posted mine first lol.

The world is full of lunatics and you can meet them just as easily in a bar in RL as in a virtual world. When you first meet someone, even in RL, you have no way of really knowing if everything they are telling you is the truth. Hell, these days, you cannot even be sure that the gender they *appear* to be is correct, let alone that they are really are single and do not live with their mommy anymore.

As Ghosty said, this has practically nothing to do with SL and it does not even have to be specific to virtual environments. This is truly a case of "the unfortunate meeting up with the insane".

This is one case I'm glad the code is broken and I'm too lazy to cut and paste. Just by the responses here I know I don't need to see that story.

And yet so many people get upset by those who put little messages in their profile that says something like: SL is SL and RL is RL and never the train shall meet.

THIS is one of those reasons why - among many many other reasons.

That woman should be locked up.

Yeah ,but thery are the same ones who also say, F***k with my Friends/Family, F**k with Me, or IM My Master/Mistress/Accountant before talking to me. And they hate drama. And claim to be fun and friendly people.

Actually, I have an abnormal RL relationship.
A long time ago, my wife and I went out to eat with anither couple. we sat in the back seat holding hands. Thay asked how long we were married and I told them 5 years. Of course they laughed and said we were newlyweds and to just wait until we were married for 7 years.

When we had been married for 8 years one of our neighbors was teasing us because they saw us sitting in the car kising before we went inside. "Newlyweds," they said, "just wait until you have been married 10 years.

10 years and we still sit next to each other, my arm around her. But just wait til your married 15 years. ... We just had our 18th aniversary in June. I still hold her hand when we walk into the stores. We kiss each other hello and goodbye and for no good reason. I tell her how beautiful she is. I tell her I love her at least every day. We are not normal, but then I gues you're not supposed to like your spouse for some reason. Cest la vie.

I'm not trying to burn you, Milla. Just saying that those things do exists in RL, tho some what rarer than I would have thought it seems.

My parents cuddle in front of the TV, have been seen holding hands in the supermarket, and frequently exchange pecks in public.

My pop turned 82 last month. Mom is just 80. They've been married 54 years.

Real love is out there, folks.

QFT!

People who have never been in any other online venue prior to SL tend to think it's "just" SL where these things happen. I could spend days with stories of "online to offline" gone bad from my years on IRC. (Not to me...in general.) When I played EQ, there was a tragic situation where a young guy (late teens or 20ish, can't recall now) was upset because people in game were making fun of him and apparently somehow, someone stole some of his items and he committed suicide....found in front of his PC after he hadn't answered the phone for a day or so and his mother became worried.

My mother and I have had countless conversations on her opinion of "the internet has caused all kinds of problems." I think after all these years I about have her to the point of realizing "all kinds of problems" have been happening since the dawn of time.

Still bizarre and tragic, though.

;) Yosef....I have a similar RL relationship. And we met on line. (not SL...and not even with the intent of romance) People are what they are regardless of how they hook up..... and I wasn't speaking to of genuine affection....I was more referring to some of the transparent RP I see happen. I have so many friends in SL who have been burned....but I chalk it up more to their own lack of gut instincts (and minding them) then to anything else. We've all probably had our share of encounters with freaky people....in and out of SL. I just get really protective sometimes because I witness sooooo much gullability and naivete....and there's nothing anyone can do except comfort the heart broken.

But I relate to you....I have a wonderful man and tho we aren't always so touchy feely and smoochy....we are very verbal and domonstrative, consistantly. ;) But, even tho I met my love on the web...I wouldn't recommend a vulnerable heart to seek it out that way. I think one of the most attractive qualities any human being posseses is independence....along with self esteem. I was single and totally happy when I met my fiance.....I didn't care what the outcome was...we became great friends and confidants first and foremost. :D
