From: Yosef Okelly When you start a new character, you get the option to join different groups. The CSI:NY group, for example. This is some what more than the groups you join in game. They can actually have different starting areas and a different list of names. I don't know about the others, but the CSI:NY has a better selection of starter avatars that come with prim hair and shoes and at lest a passible set of clothes and good skins.
[edit] I wanted the name Okima Redcloud from CSI area for the alt party. Okima means coyote and Redcloud is the only person to ever win a war against the US. Seriously, the US surrendered to Chief Redcloud and capitulated to his demands. Of course we broke every treaty shortly thereafter ....
I never got around to finishing the poor alt off. He's still sitting at the crime scene as far as I know. You shoulda named him Sitting Bull.....

From: Alyx Sands I just noticed LL have put up a huge bunch of new names, and ALL of them Jewish-sounding (meaning, German-derived such as Goldstein etc)
What's with that? Are they going with bunches of themed names now??? I want to say I am impressed with name finding information.........This is a wonderful service.........

I wish they would put me in charge of last names - I'd come up with some doozies.
I'm not a big fan of the homophones. t seems like you could make an account just to try to trick people. It might be good for alts at first, but if I have Trout Finklestein and someone makes Trout Finkelstein and then goes to my friends and tries to use my reputation to scam them out of money, pretending to be me, I'm going to be pretty upset. They might not notice the transposed letters in the name
Assume for the sake of argument that in this scenario I have a good reputation instead of my actual reputation. In all seriousness, this could be a real problem.
On the other hand, if I needed a bunch of alts for my business or whatever reason, having Trout Finkelstein, Trout Finklestein, and Trout Finklezstein might be helpful - although I would never be able to remember which one was which.

From: Madhu Maruti Why would LL do this? It strikes me as a dumb idea; and a waste of last name space. There are so many obvious advantages to distinctive last names. I can't fathom a reason why someone thought this was sensible to do. Maybe the person who usually thinks up new names is on vacation.

At least it sounds as if new Jewish residents have some appropriate name choices now.

From: Raymond Figtree It gets worse: It's no-foam as well. *sputter* *cough* Damn, that's ANOTHER keyboard ruined. Usually Trout's to blame. Your turn, Ray.

From: Raymond Figtree I will sacrifice anything for a punchline. That either makes me very comfortable with my manhood or someone badly in need of therapy. I admire that spirit! It doesn't really matter which of the two it is, as long as you hit the punchline. Oh, and make sure you use one of those cardboard sleeves. Keep it safe.

I'm jewish and my last name is peters .. /shrugs That's why I said it's German-derived Jewish names-from the time when all those Hebrew names got "translated". I'm still waiting for my last name to turn up though....it's a really rare German name of (I think) Belgian origin-Velten. From: Yosef Okelly Ah, got it. Good morning is a typical greeting. A wood fence is no big deal. Morning wood means it's going to be a great day Oh, I believ it's a huge problem for a 14 year old boy, no? And I like homphones in general as a linguist. Just not as name choices.
