You aren't supposed to be admitting that. Turn in your man card.
I will sacrifice anything for a punchline. That either makes me very comfortable with my manhood or someone badly in need of therapy.

Does that also mean every American has been ordering an "erection" at Starbucks???

If so, that would explain why the ladies in front of me always got the "Grande". ;)

OMG, and I have been ordering mine with an extra shot. :o

And here I resisted the urge to post about starting an SL Bris service and work in something about "profile cut", because I didn't want to bring the thread down to that level.

I'm so disillusioned.

Latte means erection in German? I'm so very embarrassed if that is the case (Shhh Latte is an alt).

....what have I done....?

Actually, "Latte" just means a slat, i.e. wood used for building....kind of like using "woody" in English I guess! And hey, in Germany people do order Italian coffee stuff without blushing....it really just is the combo "Morgenlatte" that is a bit cheeky!

Ah, got it.

The list looks a lot shorter then usual, or maybe it's just me.
Each registration portal only lists a subset of the available names, now. There are actually THOUSANDS of last names available, system-wide. Go here for a catalog of what last names are available in each place.

They've always done batches of names along a theme. The last time around I noticed a bunch of defunct airplane makers but there have been lots and lots of patterns.
Hehe no more! The newest theme is....

Why would LL do this? It strikes me as a dumb idea; and a waste of last name space. There are so many obvious advantages to distinctive last names. I can't fathom a reason why someone thought this was sensible to do.

Is - is Beethoven among them? If so I may have to create a new alt!

I'd settle for Mendelssohn. They've already done a Schumann I think.

Yep, I know someone in game with that last name.

This is probably a really stupid question, but I don't understand there being different servers or places in SL. In EQ playing on one server meant you didn't see people on all the other servers.

/me tries another Pepsi to see if that will help

There is (since retired) a "Lindman" last name. I did note, at one time, dat there werre a lot of sound alikes, such as "Robin Lindman," "Data Lindman," etc. Always wondered if it was happenstance or maliciousness.

I am having a tough time explaining it. First, forget WoW. Everyone gets into the same world, eventually. Its just that there are many ways to create an SL account, now.

There are different instances of the Join Now page. Linden Lab runs 32 official ones, and there are alternative portals which use the RegAPI. Until this month, all of the instances of join now and all of the alternative registration pages (except CSI:NY and GossipGirl) offered the same list of last names. Now, each one is a little different, and ever-changing. I'm not sure why they did this, but for one thing, imagine going to the new account page and seeing a drop down of 2000+ last names to choose from. It would be kind of ridiculous to present that large of a selection, to a new-comer. For experienced users who want a particular last name, though, there is slnamewatch.com.

Once you register though, you're in the same world as everyone else. Its nothing like WoW.

When you start a new character, you get the option to join different groups. The CSI:NY group, for example. This is some what more than the groups you join in game. They can actually have different starting areas and a different list of names. I don't know about the others, but the CSI:NY has a better selection of starter avatars that come with prim hair and shoes and at lest a passible set of clothes and good skins.

[edit]
I wanted the name Okima Redcloud from CSI area for the alt party. Okima means coyote and Redcloud is the only person to ever win a war against the US. Seriously, the US surrendered to Chief Redcloud and capitulated to his demands. Of course we broke every treaty shortly thereafter ....

I never got around to finishing the poor alt off. He's still sitting at the crime scene as far as I know.
