Has anybody, by any chance, worked out what on earth this thread is actually _about_ yet? I ask merely for information.

Well, contrary to most of the people here, I agree that LL should contact you when they take such actions.

I think it's safe to say he didn't Copybot it, if he had, his account would have been banned too. It is possible if he bought it, it was some sort of stolen content.

In any event, i would pursue this matter with Linden Lab if I were you.

Can they even tell who they are affecting when they do this? Don't they just ban the item and it disappears from everyone's inventory? They may not have even known whose inventories they were dipping into. If the item was the subject of a DMCA or had been copybotted and the OP bought a copy, then LL just killed the item. It could have affected on or a thousand people.

Just speculating, but I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case.

Could it be a good idea to...i dunno...ask LL??
Preferably without calling them pricks...that rarely puts me in a mood to help people.

Yea, its not nice to call someone "a mark or shallow hole made by a pointed instrument". :)

Agreed. But he might get some of both if he would stop hollering and answer some pretty simple questions. It looks like he just came to vent and he doesn't really care for any help or answers.

Even though I don't have a Trout rating, *wonders if having a Trout rating is good or bad, shaking it off she finishes* I have to agree with you Trout. If he would provide some information, and be a bit more polite to the forum posters, he might get a better idea of what "whatever" was blacklisted.

OP had an item go poof when it was blacklisted.

OP has no idea why this happened and Lindens offer no reason (I suppose the thought is they should email/IM or notecard every avie that ever bought it with an explaination.) Yeah, that will happen.

Questions were asked.. not many answers were returned..assumptions ran the gambit..OP went MIA...Claire is a cutie pie and Trout ratings and letters to the Lindens were referenced.

My assumption: OP got a botted or otherwise pirated item, a DMCA was filed somewhere against the "creator" of it and the Lindens did the yank and spank.

Still confused? I kinda am. :D

I don't disagree with you at all. Barring that, of course, the OP really should contact them.

The Lindens would probably be a lot better liked if they really did do some spanking (not sure about the yanking part) - I definitely know of some parties they would probably get invited to.

I did not really get the impression that anyone thought the Lindens should not contact them, but there seemed to be more frustration with the fact that the OP wanted to rant and rave without really giving us more details to go on.

Communication form someone before action is taken is always the preferred and best approach, but if one side does not do it, then the other party could and should initiate it.

LOL!

I think there should be a YankNSpank Linden.

Preferably female for selfish reasons.

I haven't heard any complaints from the people that have them, but I don't go around soliciting pictures from people, so those who don't want them or think it's a bad thing for whatever reason never have to even think about it. If you want one, just send some photos and I'd be happy to give you one. If you don't, it doesn't bother me in the least. lol - you're always allowed to agree with me. I'm even ok with disagreement. Heck, I'm used to people disagreeing with me. The only time it gets annoying is when people act like the OP.

*Laughs softly* Send pictures huh? Why send pictures, just show up in person...take the direct approach.

*more tinkling laughter can be heard* It is good that I am "allowed to agree with me [you]. If you don't, it doesn't bother me in the least". Hhhhmmm...this is very good since...uuumm...I am rather outspoken. Besides, I thought someone needed to mess with you in this rather smoldering post. By the whole tone, sounds like it should be a Monday.

Well, that's the question, I suppose. If it's something he bought, maybe not, perhaps LL has no idea who has it. But if it's something he was creating, which was what it seemed like at first post, then they should know full well it was his.

Either way though, I agree the attitude of the OP is lacking finesse. :)

Where IS the OP, anyway? Before he returns to his sandbox I'd be interested in what course of action he decided to take.

Dearest Ms. Malaprop:

It's us. The Lindens. Perhaps you remember us from such great Broadway and silver screen hits as The Phantom Prim of the Opera and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (and Crashed Into a Banline). At any rate, it has come to our attention that you have expressed some confusion over the contents of a specific thread in some sort of forum somewhere that may or may not be associated with us, but which our lawyers have expressly told us to shy away from. As a Starship Enterprise level member (we don't know for sure that you are. The danged server isn't cooperating.) you are entitled to know everything about everything and to never be in the dark again. Therefore, we gladly offer the following explanation which we just made up on the spot.

The Original Poster in the thread is a known communist and an enemy of the state. Of course, we've been wrong about that sort of thing before, and this time we almost certainly are, but nevertheless, he called us awful names. It appears as though he had some sort of heavily-armed mechanized horse contraption. At some point last night after the party was over, AnimalHouse Linden accidentally spilled bong water all over the mainframe where we store everyone's inventory. This resulted in the Original Poster's Steam-Powered Transformicron being what we refer to as, "deleted". we tried to fix it, but truth be told, we have no idea how, and we were pretty buzzed. The two people who could have helped, Sally Jesse Linden and Montel Linden were locked in a broom closet. We don't know for sure what was going on in there, but we think Sally was praying because she kept saying, "Oh God, Oh God."

Nevertheless, we made a valiant effort to appease the OP by undertaking such remedial actions as napping, goofing off, and twiddling our thumbs. This usually works, but, unfortunately, the OP decided to vent his frustrations here rather than just quietly fading into the background or going back to playing WoW. Luckily for us, he decided his best course of action was to act like a tool towards the people who were helping him. We are thinking about instituting this practice in our ongoing customer servicing procedures, but honestly, it looks like a lot of work.

Hopefully, this missive of ours has brought you up to date. It is never our wish that a resident of your stature should be anything less than fully informed. We reserve that sort of thing for the little people, like Anshe Chung and Philip Linden. Please advise if we can be of further service. But not between the hours of 1:00 pm and 3:00 PM, SLT. That's our nap time and we get cranky.

Love, respect, and a little grope when you aren't looking,

Answerpants Linden

lol - I didn't mean that you need permission to agree or disagree, only that I don't take offense to anyone expressing an opinion regardless of whether it is in agreement with my opinions or not. I might debate my point, but nobody gets flamed by me for a difference of opinion.

Now, let nobody say that the Blessed Lindens do not respond to posts here, even if they may be called "Trout" and not post in orange. Most encouraging, I say.

Maybe...but SL's inventory doesn't number additional copies of items in that way. It appends numbers. (sexydress, sexydress1, etc.)

No, but the maker might use that to distinguish versions.

Things aren't always made in one go, then plunked down for sale that way for-ever-and-ever.

To the OP: when you buy a stolen car stereo, don't bitch when the cops take it back.

The Mech was probably the subject of a copyright violation DMCA.

When most people think of a "Mech" they think of the giant robot combat suits in Manga and Anime, such as Escaflowne, Gundam Mobile Suit, Robotech, or Patlabor, or in roleplaying or video games based on those robots, like MechWarrior and Battletech. It would be pretty hard to design a Mech that didn't in some way duplicate what those copyrighted sources already designed. The Japanese designers, and those who copied them, have already used and copyrighted a huge array of permutations on roughly anthropomorphic armored power suit combat systems.

If it was a direct copy of an existing design I could understand this, but I don't think I'm quite cynical enough.. yet.. to believe it would have been DMCAd on the grounds that "it's a mech, therefore some part of it must copy one of ours".

Blacklisted...
07-17-2008 18:29
Trout, that was excellent, that needs to be immortalized somewhere for posterity.

Many devices get "blacklisted" by complaints of residents TO the Lindens. I have a "gun" that shoots "hearts" but it got blacklisted and I got ejected by an automated gun detector in a no-weapons area. The name of the land owner who owned the device that did that though, was apparent, so I was able to have it reversed after explaining what it was to their satisfaction.

The Lindens themselves won't respond to that kind of ejection or blacklisting, it's a resident issue.

Trout, that was just... beautiful. I'd like to see those Linden letters once a week. And I imagine so would they.
