Spammed by Copybot....

PS. Yes my parcel is very well protected. I had a camping casino next door and my land was invaded by newbies. Also the LL protection only goes to 75m, my house is 60m so I hasd to do something.

No problem, Shipper, perfectly within your rights. It was just funny as I specifically entered the sim at great altitude to avoid popping in on someone's private abode (which I didn't), and found myself in the middle of a security-orb minefield!

Yeah when they asked me to quit I would just teleport out and shop elsewhere

If it's on your land I assume you have tried returning other peoples objects under land options. If on a neighbours you're out of luck unless they will help you.

Well, when I spammed by this "!Quit" stuff, I mostly teleport away to find another shop. I do understand what it is used for. But as shop-owner one should be also be aware that your costumers must feel welcome. When I am spammed with "!Quit" I don't feel welcome... after I do my shopping in SL for fun.

My neighbor once had an object that was annoying me on my parcel with sound. I IMed a Linden and she took care of it within 5 minutes. Of course, this was also back when the Lindens really really took a hands on approach to taking care of things. I'm lucky if I can even figure out HOW to contact Lindens most days now.

i've been getting it all morning too. and i'm travelling around looking for land.... errr... trying. the lag is killing me!

It would so take care of all those copybot spammers.

the sad thing is that the Iquit command the proctector uses only worked on the earliest version of copybot, the whole thing is completely useless against the currently used versions of copybot, so the spamming gizmo is completely pointless anyway.

His home is listed in his picks but he's got a decent sized parcel set to access-only and with security orbs over the ban lines. Just having a good idea where we might get spammed by this thing would help, Shipper.

Er.. Unless you're seeing this from well inside your land.. If that's true and it's really coming in open chat and you're not within 20m of your property lines, the spammer is on your land. Have you checked under your bed?

It isn't open chat. It sends IMs, because that is what the original CopyBot version listened to.

You sure he's getting it in IMs? The first post says 'chat'...

Unless the creator of the spamming item is an even bigger idiot than previously thought, it would be in IM.

To my knowledge there is not, and never has been, a version of copybot that listened to commands in open chat. All versions of bots based off of the libsl test bot code will listen to some commands in IM, though mostly from their explicitly-defined "master" and nobody else.

I had a neighbor with one of these awful things. After calmly asking her to get rid of it or do something about it coming on my land, she accused me of not caring about creative people, and other BS. I ended up banning her from my land to get the thing to shut up. From that point, I never heard the anti copybot, nor did I hear her. It might be extreme, but if you can figure out what land it's coming from, ban the owner and any member of whatever group it might belong to. That should stop any IMs it's sending also. Since banning is supposed to prevent most forms of harassment, including, spam and IMs.

You're assume the script author is actually trying to stop CopyBots - not just trying to rip people off by creating something that some people think does something useful.

Taking a look around this property, I got spammed at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Mokosha/4/211/21 . edit also spammed at 181/230/34 if somebody wants to do some triangulation. Mokosha is a totally empty sim btw - 15k prims free.

I do have a script that listens on chat for anything coming from anybody with 'copybot' in its name and it didn't pick up on the spam so either my script is crap (could well be) or the messages are in IM.

How can you tell the difference between an object talking in chat vs IM?

The object is at <187.17201, 57.22561, 20.49349> in Nayunuwi. In that combat building or whatever. Hard to find again because an object banned me.

There used to be a program from libsecondlife made to deal with the copybot defeater spam. I can't find it , maybe asking on the libsl IRC channel would yield an answer.

I also wonder if SLeek does or could be made to give info on the location or owner of objects sending chat messages.

Perhaps what is needed is an 'Anti-Spamming - Anti-CopyBot - CopyBot' device..... or maybe the Lindens that were founders of the orginal script kiddies organisation that were allowed to introduce the CopyBot in the first place 'just to prove a point' (same lame excuse used by virus creators all over the world), should clean up the whole mess in the first place?
