Spammed by Copybot....

On my land every hour or so I get this in chat;

It's driving me nuts and I have no idea who is doing it? Not me thats for sure.

I suspect he can't mute it. See that number at the end of its name? It's randomly generated each time the accursed thing sends someone a series of messages to prevent you from using a sensor to track it down and AR the owner for still using the worthless, spamming thing to begin with.

Question, could one not program a scanner to A.) Capture the objects ID and track it that way, or B.) develop a scanner that would find all copy bots by looking for just the static first 3 words and discarding the 4th? As I am still very new to scripting I may be totally wrong on both accounts, but from what I have read on the various functions it seems valid.

These copybot "defeaters" usually IM the people they're spamming so chat scanners won't work. Now if it's shouting then yeah, it would work but shouters are rare now. As for scanning for the first 3 words of its name, no go. llSensor searches for specific names, it doesn't allow wildcards at all. So searching for "Copybot Protection Version" will only return objects named "Copybot Protection Version." You could scan for every scripted object in range...but llSensor is limited to 16 results at a time so this is rather impractical especially given that these "defeaters" are usually so poorly scripted that they will spam people in adjacent sims. There was a whole huge thread on this problem on the scripting forum back when the original copybot hysteria broke and these damn things popped up everywhere so I'd suggest you read that if you're interested in what has been tried to locate them.

It must be within 20m - can you narrow down the area? It might ber a semi-fun puzzle. well, that's going too far, hah!

If it's actually on your land, go to your land tab and look at objects.
You should be able to see the object and owner there.

If it's not on your land, then have your neighbors check. Chances are it's annoying them, too.

God those things are disgusting. Try pressing Ctrl+\ to look at the last chatter. Using the Beacons functionality you can seek out scripted objects. In my experience, people put those scripts in random objects, so it could be anything.

I went to Shipper's land to see if I could help locate the item, but got stuck in the middle of a security orb minefield and then ejected. Oh well.

The most frustrating thing about these "Anti-Copybot" spamming nucances is: They have zero effect on copybots. They are useless except as a way to annoy your neighbors and treat all your customers as if they were thieves.

BTW, you can manually mute objects by name. View --> Mute List

There were. Some of the first ones would send "!quit" to everyone in sensor range every three seconds or so.

This message has always cracked me up. "...with Low Spam" - meanwhile the danged thing is spamming with 3 lines of worthless chat.

It used to be possible to mute an object from the Chat History box, that feature seems to be gone now. Have you tried using the View -> Mute List -> Mute Object by Name option? I suppose that if the object changes it's name at random then this might not help, but it is worth a shot.

in the new chat history thing, there's an icon in the upper right that shows a list of all talkers around you, in that list it will have both avatars and objects. The object should be in that list, just click it then click mute.

Took me a bit to find that function but it's still there, it's just well hidden.

Sadly it does not work when the object is IMing you. (Just checked this in-world).

Mark the sim name and co-ords where you recieve this IM/chat then file a Support Ticket on it. Will take at least until Moday (maybe longer with the ISP issues LL is having atm).

Make sure to flag the Ticket as "spam" and "harrasment". Also ask LL to "explain" to the owner about watching his/her scripted objects and to learn what they can and can not do.

The anti-copybot scripts are worthless as that program runs spereate from SL off the users PC. Nothing we can do can stop it, though I believe LL has. It was a useless program anyway. Running the program to "steal" items would be more work than actually making the items lol.

It ISN'T copybot that is Spamming you. a merchant in your area has one of many devices designed to foil the use of copybot on their property. That is what is Spamming you. Just Mute it by Clicking on the text in the Chat Window, and choose the mute Option.

What is so horrible about this is that !quit wont stop anything

a 'copyboy' is a edit'ed client (Open source client that was changed) that saves a copy of the size/shape/textures on prims...

if the person who wrote the edit'ed client added in a line that says 'if i see !quit then dont work' it would work, but who would do that?

Its just spam spam spam, even as it says it is low spam by saying 3 lines of text that do nothing......

Now can someone please invent the anti-copybot-protection-protector device? Oh, and preferably dynamic with low spam. I want it to send out a message that causes copybot protection devices to !quit !once !and !for !all ...

I checked the SLexchange page. The creator of this piece of junk is actually charging L$500 for it. There is a review by someone who gives it four stars and says, and I quote, "Have purchased this item and have it installed in a shopping mall and a games store. I can only assume it is working and doing the job."
