9/11 memorial?

Is there a 9/11 memorial this year?

Go to the New York NYC sim, there has been a World Trade Center memorial there for a while. You could send a notecard to Melody Regent asking if there are plans for this year. You'll see the phantom replicas of both WTC buildings and the memorial pillars are nearby.
Very respectfully done and I've gone there a number times.

Isn't there better things to do than mourning the deads? It isn't like they can hear it.

All this is doing is fueling up the hate against Muslims.

Those who don't remember history are doomed to repeat it. Would you suggest that we stop remembering the dead of the Holocaust, the World Wars, and Vietnam, too? Maybe that big wall in Washington, D.C. should be torn down. All it's doing is fueling up the hate against the Vietnamese, right?

Yeah, let's take down all those portraits of our long lost and beloved Grandmother. Put that cherished baby book of our too soon taken sons and daughters in a chest in the attic. Let's just put it all behind us and "move on". Afterall, what's done is done..........what do we care? We are here, that's all that counts............to hell with our lost loved ones.

Not a good thing to say to anyone who's suffered a loss of that magnatude........let alone an entire nation. If you don't feel the loss we feel that's fine......but be respectful and keep your mouth shut.

I've not heard plans of any inworld memorials going on. I'd check with the one mentioned above, and prob'ly also check the events listings.

Last year there was a very fitting and impressive memorial at Silicon City. I haven't heard about any plans for this year though.

The World Trade Center replica of the walls of names (and photos of victims) is in place again this year. Visitors cannot rez things, but there are free rezzers for many types of flowers that you can place where you like, and a free 911 memorial T-shirt if you would like to wear something in token of the day.

It is always gently raining there.

I love comments that start out this way. Like people who say "I'm not a racist, but..." and then proceed to say something disproportionately racist. Or "No offense, but..." followed by probably the most offensive thing anybody could've said to you right at that particular moment.

It's more like knowing that throwing oil on the fire is risky but doing it anyway.

I never meant we had to forget the past and blah blah.
It's simply that the earth didn't stop spinning at world war two, nor did it stop spinning when the twin towers fell.

I'm more worried about obvious instrumentalisation of these events by certain autorities to do whatever the fuck they want in the name of vengeance and security.

We all know roughly what happened, but peoples die every days of hunger in africa, which i believe is slower and much more painfull, will you mourn those too?

Oh, I understand. We should be ashamed to feel a sense of loss or sadness at the events at the World Trade Center because it's hypocritical, given that we don't mourn every single person on earth who dies. Classy.

It was seven years ago now and look at all the blood that got spilled in the name of vengeance.

Since when does something some people choose to do AFTER you die render you any less deserving of being remembered or respected?

Peoples can mourn the deads all they want but i believe it's something we usually do privately.

That's what I tell my relatives @ funerals, but ppl don't like that idea, don't get it, or just think that when THEY die, they wanna be remembered I guess.

I actually find it wierd that we are still having 9/11 Memorials, but no 11/3 memorials.

Who is the "they"? The ones who were taken away from us? I doubt any of those nearly 3,000 had thoughts like that. It's the ones left....family, friends, and the nation who want to remember. To belittle or suggest that that is improper or somehow useless is taking an extremely cynical view of life........an uncaring, disrespectful attitude. It's offensive to many people......and you know it is. You say it anyway......what does that tell people about you?

What about the thousands of innocent people in Iraq killed also? shouldn't we remember them as well? Many of them didn't ask to die either. I think we should look at both sides of the coin at this time and remember all the innocent people slaughtered by both sides!!

What does that tell people about me? Hell if I know, and I don't care, I'm a diagnosed psychopath.

...as far as insensitive, I have been told that by my shrink a few times, but the cops like me. Bad sign, I know. Especially when the few times I have been "caught", it was for "attempted" murder and other dropped potentially deadly incidents.

If you want tears or somethin, definitely don't look @ the mohawked, Black, skinhead & gangsta stomping drunk, turned internet nerd on hard meds.

My point is just to focus on the positive the departed did, the good impressions they made & thier contributions to folks lives, as opposed to lettin' yourself get depressed. There's a time for mourning they tell me, & I can understand that.
