Hopefully that wasn't the first prize.

I voted to go get pies because the shopping trip could take two weeks. Or two weeks worth of days at the pub, golf course, etc. That's two weeks of rest and relaxation away from the family.

"Spotted drop bears"? I swear that sounds like a type of fruit flavored chewy candy. _____________________

Do they have wilderness in the British Isles? They're so small! I wouldn't have thought there's any place more than a few minutes from a pub. My guess is that the furthest from a pub you can get in Britain would be somewhere in the Highlands of Scotland - unless you take a boat trip to the uninhabited island of St. Kilda!! _____________________

and the spotted drop bear has not been seen outside Tasmania since the West Gate bridge collapse in Melbourne in 1970. That will teach them to mess around with bridges! |

We don't have huge wilderness areas like Canada, USA, but if, for instance, you're on top of Pen-y-Fan in the Brecon Beacons, you're the best part of 2 hours from the nearest pub at least. But will that pub be open when you get there??? My guess is that the furthest from a pub you can get in Britain would be somewhere in the Highlands of Scotland - unless you take a boat trip to the uninhabited island of St. Kilda!! I met a Texan ( or was it an Australian?) once who was very boastful about the size of his farm and claimed that it took him two hours to get to the nearest bar in his car. Pep (I told him that I once had a crappy car like that too. )_____________________

I am off work (except for logging in to check the cash flow every morning) for the next two weeks. I am torn between using the time to get more immersed in sl, and taking a break from sl completely - or perhaps there is some compromise that might reinvigorate both my real and virtual lives. So a) what do you think I should do and b) what do *you* do when you are on leave. Pep (Those who are "home-makers" or "resting" between employments should use their imagination. )i say, if you really enjoy SL and want to have a good two-week immersion, do that. it could be fun! but, if i had two weeks, i'd bug out and go travel a little with the kids, if possible. depends on if you want to spend $ or not. either way, have fun! _____________________

Well, the poll has made it obvious what my course of action should be. I should go get some pies on the way home from work (Morrisons, ex-Safeways, being from oop North do a good line in pies on Fridays) while thinking hard about making an alt so that I can get inworld more in the evenings (creating a ruinous reputation, but not getting caught) while the kids are watching chickflicks with SWAMBO, having chilled out with them during the day, and sent them out to play on the M1 motorway that runs close to our house, but only after they have tidied up their rooms.
Pep (a portmanteau solution; check www.fortnightofhell.blogspot.com for updates.) PS Unsurprisingly enough, no-one voted for me to remain in the forums, so enjoy the respite. _____________________

I still think you should consider my suggestion. Doesn't your family deserve a vacation as well? ![]() Sorry, I'll be explicit. SWAMBO is working (yes, she has ID so they don't keep her in overnight, although it is difficult to tell the difference) and I have no-one to offload the kids on for the fortnight, although my son has been unsuccessfully consulting Childline about possible high-security accommodation (whether for SWAMBO, me or himself is not clear) so I am as stuck with them as they are with me. time off

You could start what I have done Pep..........hotmailed a twitter page and posted inane ramblings of your life as an anonymous nobody, like the nutty old men that we are. Don't follow anybody, just gather followers. See how many you can get in 2 weeks. I've managed 18 so far, even newspaper columns worldwide...................
Oh by the way I'm UK based and self employed, so 2 weeks off would be bliss, but with kids of 22 and 19, luxury and spare cash is something I don't have anymore. Above all else enjoy your time, failing that create an SL alt and cause havoc. |
