If SL euphoria has passed, what brought you back to RL?

My story is a cliche one it's been told a million times - found SL, got hooked, got emotionaly wrapped up, played 14 or so hours a day...
I was totally wrapped up in it until about my 3rd month, I had been out of work and was seriously worried about things I had neglected in RL, maily like, how am I going to pay bills once my money from my job was spent? This was back in Feb.
One thought that kept going thru my head was "If I had not spent so much time each day rotting away on that stupid F'ing RPG, I could have done something..." I did get something worked out but the scare of knowing I had spent all my time in SL instead of trying to figure something out - that snapped me back to reality
I still play SL and I do like it, it is a chat room for me more than anything, but it is now something for a bit of leisure time in the evening and not something that I live...
So if RL has rudely reminded you of who is boss and thereby forcing you to put things in perspective, how did it do it?

Interesting question! FWIW I've only been here since March and circumstances only let me in world for an hour or so each day (to the chagrin of a certain wonderful lady) and rarely on weekends, but I do see people online at all hours and wonder exactly how they are managing to have a RL. Sometimes I envy them and I could easily see myself getting totally hooked on SL, so I'm looking forward to the rest of this thread. Thanks!

Right now it's my tomatoes. Coz they need pollinating and I don't know if bees fly in fog. I'm distraught. I have to use a paintbrush. And I am quite serious here.

I never left RL to begin with. SL can be overwhelming in the beginning and people DO get into this sort of addict phase (there is still actually debate as to whether or not a gaming obsession is truly an addiction, as folks seem to be able to snap out of it on their own ultimatly).....but...in my cause I was by myself and SL gave me something to entertain while my sweety was away working over seas. It kept me out of trouble probably......and also provided a very unique creative outlet. But....there was a time initially when I would stay up into the wee hours, hanging out in SL.......and that passed. When I have the luxury of time, I do what I want with it.....SL or RL. It's still all MY life.

LL. Their bungling and mismanagement is enough to keep from investing too much of one's self in SL.

Can't simply rez plywood over the windows in a RL hurricane.
I lie, I haven't "left" SL, but RL is making me its bitch so I don't get nearly as much time in SL as I'd like.

It is not RL that drags you back, it is SL that pushes you away. I had left SL before. Hung it up, gave away what I could and threw away the rest. To make a short story even shorter, I came back to be with my RL partner.

I quit and cancelled my account as well at one point. I stayed away 3 weeks, but when I came back, it was a different attitude and philosophy.

Queer Termite Furriers? The polite meaning is "quoted for truth." Also means "quite f'ing true." [ETA] Silly me ... QTF I missed that the first time.

I don't think I ever need to be reminded which is the boss between RL and SL. The technical and interpersonal limitations of the virtual world are enough to keep my feet on the ground. Gimme RL people, scenery and sex any day but gimme SL over television every time.

Ain't it the truth? I have about 6 or 7 favorite shows that I DVR and watch at my leisure, so I don't watch "Live" TV much, except maybe a sporting event, and even those I delay by about 5 minutes or so so I can skip commercials, but when I do see propmos for the garbage that is network TV, my mind boggles, especially the festering pit of banality called Reality TV. Even old favorites like The History and SciFi channels have turned into trash heaps. I do like BBC America, though.
