You know, there's a whole bunch of JIRA entries asking for this kind of info in-game.

Maybe...

touch_start() {
if(llDetectedGender(0) == MALE) ...
}

Or... maybe not. Think of all the bad_touch() jokes. :D

This would DESTROY SL for quite a few people.

There are many people in SL who want not to be labeled by gender since that happens to them in RL and here they can have dynamic or no gender at all.

And then what happens when people start using DetectGender to kick the "wrong sex" off pose balls or cause attachments to not attach etc, all because they are strictly scripted for a particular gender. I can see nothing but drama emerging from such a code update.

Heck I didn't even know that and Lex used to spend a bit of time in the Scripting Forum. Kind of hard with so many ambiguous names. That's why I finally broke down and put it in my sig.

Maybe we need sex check boxes in our profiles in the forum:

Male ___

Female ___

Other ___

Not Picky. I'll take what I can get ___

It is not that the names are too ambiguous, it is just that women are not expected to be coders. And most of the time when they are coders they turn out being guys. So taking names that could be used both ways and assuming it is male as opposed to female is understood by me at least.

Oh, I agree, it would be almost as bad as the introduction of Voice.

Sigh. One of my better SL friendships was kind of wrecked when her RL man insisted I was a guy because I wrote a custom group inviter for her. I chalked it up to the fact that they are German, a culture where there are proportionately many fewer women in engineering than where I am (the U.S.), but it does sometimes seem that the world is sliding backwards.

Lex is a she.

Oh, my. I'm absolutely mortified. Briana is right, unless it is apparent otherwise, I just assume with scripters. Must learn not to do that.....

Yea, my man does the same thing the minute i say "she built that, or scripted that, or anything remotely computer/SL geekish he immediately screams 'man in drag'. :rolleyes:

Only if there is a valid variable for "indeterminate" or "Variable".

My avatar's gender changes with my mood. Primarily female, but can just as easily at any moment be any possible combination. If there were checkboxes for what your gender is, I'd check all of them. If I could only chose one, it would be Female, but that wouldn't accurately reflect what I am like below the waist, with any degree of certainty. People referring to me as "She" would be the most accurate, however, since in-character, Ceera is a female shapeshifter, and gender is just one of many aspects of her form that she can change at will.

wasnt this on daniel lindens to-do list? i swear that region verification and gender identification were to be part of the overall age verification scheme.
