From: Chip Midnight I just can't help but think of all the bad behaviors which wouldn't exist if land was always a set price, and for a long time it was back in SL's Jurassic period. Well yeah, I understand that. In a way, tho, it's like saying "Back before there were cars, we never had car accidents, mega-pollution or car theft, etc." While cars do bring their problems to society, they've also brought us refrigerated trucking, affordable transportation, mobility, etc. Either way you look at it, it's got its ups and downs.

It went low enough for me to get an awesome mainland sim!

See my signature.
Now instead of just talking about land, I can pay tier for it! Congrats to my biz partner Myth Dibou, and to all the future residents of this blight-free paradise.

Good luck to the rest of the bidders. It's only going to go lower. I just fell in love with the unique features of Liome since I first TPed in and had to have it. Heck, I would have gone as high as $1952!

even a die hard libertarian will recognise a need to regulate free trade in some way. somebody must look out for the interests of society over that of corporations and whatnot From: Avacea Fasching Regulation is bad, free commerce is good.

im just trying to find out first hand what the process is. I paid by credit card. The payment went through. The land is now set to me for $0. When I click buy, my tier kicks in. Yes, I am told I could buy for a group. I will have a group, just not sure if I will buy for it yet or not.

From: Nina Stepford even a die hard libertarian will recognise a need to regulate free trade in some way. somebody must look out for the interests of society over that of corporations and whatnot I take it you don't know many die-hard libertarians. The only things they want controlled are force and fraud. There is no reason to regulate free trade in any way that is not outweighed by the evil results of said regulation. Libertarians as individualists believe that "society" is made up of individuals, so protecting the rights of individuals to trade freely is looking out for the interests of society. Further, die-hard libertarians view corporations as results of regulation that unfairly shields certain individuals from responsibility for the consequences of their actions, rather than as victims of such regulation.

Winning Bid: US$ 1401.00 Ended 2007-08-13 01:51:14 History: 11 bids My opinion has been since LL raised the min bid from 1000 usd to 1250, is that we will soon see a winningbid at 1251, unless they stop pumping new ones on auctions. (They raised that min.bid. at same time they banned SL's largest economy sector) Perhaps they should lower minimum bid to 750 if they are gonna auction off at same pace as now

From: Oryx Tempel Hmmm... normally I agree with pretty much everything you say, Chip, but this doesn't sound like very much "fun." I really enjoy searching out bargain plots and haggling with the seller. Like someone else said, land buying and selling may be hobbies for people, and their main reason for remaining in SL. and how would you feel about free land?. Would it bug you that you wouldn't be able to go around haggling?. You wouldn't be happy if Linden Lab were to one day release the server code so that we all could run a full sim on our home computers for free? You actually like to pay for things because it gives you something to do?. Okay... I'm selling this post for L$5000. Any buyers?

Society has no interests in me or my property. Not unless society wants to start paying my mortgage, tier, etc........... Look up the Austrian School of Economic thought and Ludwig Von Mises.

Wow, eight sims went for less than the lowest priced sim since Melina started keeping auction stats last December. Congrats to the bargain buyers. At least I hope they were bargains and not overpriced. I'm not worried personally at the relative higher price I paid because Myth and I did not get our sim to slice it up and resell at the top of the land sale list. Also, Liome is not a big blob of granite. Melina's site (does not reflect last night's auction action yet): http://cosyhome.org/cgi-bin/auc_statistics/auction-stats.html

Congrats Raymond on Liome!
And did I miss something or did LL drop another 18 or so sims early this morning? Are we really going to see 5/sqm before this is over?

What does LL do if nobody is willing to bid the minimum auction price?
Does the sim still make it onto the grid? Does it all get set to protected or set for sale as one big parcel? Split up into smaller parcels?

From: Chip Midnight No good reason I can think of. The plot's actually been there for years and has always been priced absurdly high. The guy who owns it might not even be around anymore. The screamer belongs to someone else. Maybe it was just dumb luck that it ended up on the one 16m square in the entire sim where it wouldn't get auto-returned. 16 meter plots are usefull for people who rent land. They can cut them out of the main plot and put a rent box on it so the renter can't accidently return it if they turn on auto-return. Yes, I did that. :|
