21 new sims to the mainland auction page tonight. 49 live auctions total.
Land was already at the lowest it's been since Black Thursday. Many of the auctions won in the last week have yet to be claimed. The casino crackdown is in full effect, so the remaining holdouts will be dumping soon. Some Ginko victims will have a tough time making their tier payments when due and will be unloading too.
So I gotta ask Linden Lab: Why do you want to crash the land market? To make Islands undesirable? To make less money from the auctions? Do you think this is going to get more premium members? Because it's the tier that keeps people from upgrading, not the purchase price of the land.
And I gotta ask you, Resident Answers person: How low will it go?

I don't believe they know their arse from their elbow. However I believe all this land dumping is an exercise in business as normal, nothing to see here. They are seriously burying their heads in the sand.

Come on, any company that would name a sim Trollsweat has to know what they are doing.

From: Raymond Figtree So I gotta ask Linden Lab: Why do you want to crash the land market? [...] Do you think this is going to get more premium members? Because it's the tier that keeps people from upgrading, not the purchase price of the land. You know, I'm not so sure that is right. People make such a big deal about how much it costs to buy, seemingly oblivious to the fact that in less than a year they'll have paid more than the purchase price in tier. And when they sell, they are not so much concerned about the absolute amount that they get for the land, but that it is more than they paid for the initial purchase price... once again ignoring the mass amounts of tier paid in the meantime. I think that sensible people recognize that tier is the big money vacuum, and that a few L/m difference in a purchase price only matters when buying very large parcels. But... well... there are a lot of people in SL who aren't particularly sensible. My guess is that this IS being done on purpose, trying to get the base price to something that makes the cost of the free-tier 512 look easily affordable to potential premium members. I have kind of wondered why LL would do this when the private island business seems so much more profitable. I suspect it has to do with retention. If someone goes premium and purchases mainland, they are probably much more likely to stay in the game (and paying membership and maybe tier) than someone who is just renting (on mainland or an estate). Obviously that's not true of all renters, but on the grand scale I would guess premium accounts have a much higher retention rate.

It seems to be a group of sellers at this point trying to offload mostly in the new continent and some of the sketchier older sims. Lots of recent releases being dumped- very few older sims joining in.
There's one ad cutter in Svarvarsson trying to offload 5 or 6 16's that are pretty far off the road for around 7/sqm but otherwise the prices remain staunchly above 10.0/sqm, and there's still over 1/4 of the sim that hasn't touched by an end user.... even that counting ad cutters as end users =/ PS- If you're looking for a quiet sim and you like neighbors who upkeep the property pretty well for mainland, check out this one. The road is a mess (although I'm working on fixing that one ad plot at a time) but we've already got a couple of people with moderately large home plots with nice trees, just need a few more to connect it all up and it'll be a great looking sim ^.^

Weeeelll now, I think you might be allowing your personal bias toward the name Trollsweat to lead you to discount why it makes perfect sense. Just because most of us here on the forums have an immediate reaction of "Trollsweat? Eeeeuuwww. Bad Name. Really, really bad. Who would want to live in that?" Does not in the least mean that there isn't a niche group of people who think "TROLLSWEAT? Swwwweeeet! That is hilarious. I have to live in a sim called Trollsweat, dude." We may find the name less than ideal, but somone else may think it rocks - and who are we to tell them just what a big bowl full of wrong a sim named Trollsweat is. /bemused whimsy off

strange if i put in buy $1 it would give me $L185, but if i put in $10 it would give me $L2570.
maybe its down to the cost of charging my card just $1

Its just me being a dumbass and not reading things.
its because its a set fee for buying and not a %.
I only put in $1 to find out the exchange rate.
Feel free to ignore me.

Feel free to ignore me. lol for the SLE, u can view the exchange rate under currency->open order and i now see what exactly u ment with the lindex, the default display is basic wich doesn`t show much, try this: change the display to: advance go back to the buy page it will show u both the basic option but beneath it the advanced option at wich u can buy L$ at a fixed price u enter, same for selling below that is an overview of the open sell and buy orders, i`d suggest buying L$ on the SLE as u have a better exchange rate but sell on the lindex as u get a better exchange rate sry for the mess, hope this clears it up abit

Recently, Linden increased the starting bid for a new mainland auction from US$1000 to US$1250. Why do they want to increase the starting bid?
They know that they going to release a lot of new mainland for auction, so are they trying to protect their profit margin by raising the starting bid?
Will it go to as low as US$1250?
Cheaper land price will no doubt increase the number of premium members.
Will they reduce the Premium membership fee to US$4.95 to attract more people to upgrade?
At this moment, free members have almost the same capabilites as premium members except that they cannot buy land under their avatar.
So, will they limit the usage for free members? For example. 1 hour a day?

I've always thought it was a huge mistake for LL to commoditize land in the first place. All its done is create profiteers, predators, and middlemen who stand between a resource and the people who actually want to use it. People who provide a service like rentals deserve to profit becaise they add something of value to the world, but those who simply buy land as some sort of "investment" just drive up prices for everyone else. LL should do away with that system entirely, Make land a fixed price per meter and just release it when they need to to meet demand. No one could ever get ripped off in a land deal, and there would be no need to worry about recouping investment, or have their land swooped by a bot, or any of the other unsavory things that have come with turning SL into a virtual real estate racket.

thats pretty drastic chip. i think they could address many of the issues youve raised without taking it to that level. for some people the land market is the joy of sl.

I know I’m not alone when I say my discontentment grows with each passing day. Hey, Phil, listen to what we are saying here! All I am asking for is stability. Economic stability Platform stability sorry if I sound a little bitter, but Im tired of having to Credit my tenants for your problems, while my tier remains the same, Whether the grid is working properly or not. At the same time my investment in the mainland slowly becomes worthless. ( I know I dont HAVE to give them a credit, but its called GOOD WILL, Linden Lab should try it )

From: Richard Palace Will it go to as low as US$1250? There's a couple in the 'completed auctions' page that only went into the US$1600's. If they keep this up, I'd bet it will go that low.

Maybe they are just in a rush to get all their stock servers online so they can order another 1000 sims worth.

Am I doing something wrong? Yes. You should be doing a limit sell and typing in 265 or 266 as the amount of lindens you are willing to sell per US dollar. It can take a day or so for someone to fill your order at 265 but it will get filled. Faster at 266.
