From: Eric Stuart The ban list, more than likely, is a simple database with the person's name and their key. Resources my ass. A list of 10k users and their UUID would barely be "taking resources". If so, these forums would be laggy as hell with the millions of accounts kept on the database. Plus, at the price we pay for these sims, not just to buy them, but for tier as well...yeah, I think we deserve that ability. It's not a privilege that we have that ability. Hell, I have the right to tell people "you cant come in my home" if they come in and act like a jackass. I just can't believe there are so many people thinking that there would be some viable reason to limit the number of bans you can have. After a year of amassing all sorts of crowds, it's very easy to pick up 100 people specifically. I shouldn't HAVE to go in and erase old names to make room for new. That's the whole point of this...if I want to ban more than 100 people, I should be able to. You don't HAVE to, and if you don't, great! That doesn't mean that we shouldn't be able to if need be. Sometimes, it just needs to be. Prim limits are continuous, and rez for every single user that comes in. They are seen at all times, and rez not only themselves, but their textures as well. Completely different. Makes sense why they limit that. As well, it IS my land. I SHOULD be able to ban people and keep them on the list. These aren't the same servers they had back in 2003, they've upgraded since (or so they claim), so why keep the same limitations? Why the hell would anyone NOT want something in case they need it? You never know why you'd need it until you actually do. once again, you have what you paid for.

Hear ye, Hear ye...
The Great High and Mighty Muckity Muck speaks...
"In About Land, you have a ban list limited to 100. In Estate Tools you have a ban list that is limited to 500. In order to use the Estate ban list you have to be an Estate Manager. In all told, the solution to the problem that the OP is facing is two fold. 1) Diplomacy... instead of outright banning a male that stumbles onto the sim, have Security IM first..kindly tell him to leave. 2) If the "About Land" ban list is full, and a ban is needed...some culling needs to be done, or have an Estate manager on duty to take a ban request from Security."
"Now, if for some God awful reason that your ban lists is genuinely needed and topped at 600, head for a bomb shelter because you are at war."
The Great High and Mighty Muckity Muck has spoketh.

Has been my experience that people who are ban happy attract more greifers. Is the whole point of greifing. To cause angst. To get a reaction. To get the target to bite. And the greifer cant get a bigger bite than being banned.
Banlists are a way of keeping score for the dedicated greifers. They are in public view. Is like baddies wanting to get their picture put up in the Post Office in real. Notoriety and infamy ya. The more banlists Im on the more "famous" I am or so that goes.
If anything I think that Banlists should be hide-able from public view. All a banned avatar then gets is the private "sorry cant come here" message and thats it. No public acknowledgement, no nothing and no one cares.
Note: I ban people from time to time, but not for greifing. Anytime anyone greifs anyone else at my place I tell them to AR the greifer. Thats what thats for. I will evict people though sometimes. Chuck them out into space =) People who play silly buggers with me when Im there doing maintenance. Silly buggers mostly being those whose attachments started telling me they are hawt for me. lol right =) Other than that I will only ban people who litter the neighbours property and on the rare times I do is only for a day or so for most who do this. And I will always lift the ban if the person contacts me and asks to have it lifted.

Yes, but your experience does not equal everyone's experience. If "in your experience" you've never had to ban that many people, then this doesn't even apply to you. I have had to. I wish I didn't, but I do have to. In the end, though, this applies more to those of us that find ourselves in the position that we HAVE to ban (and keep banned) a number of people.
So, really, we don't care what the hell your experiences with banning are. If this doesn't apply to you, don't be devils advocate against those that it does. I don't run your company, you don't run mine, and comparing them blindly is just dumb. Alot of sims that require ALOT of social interaction fill their banlist quickly. Exactly what kind of place do you run?
As well, you can see with estate tools being at 500 for their ban list that it's not a matter of resources, and that limitation is simply that...a limitation. One that now seems to be more "just because". I got what I paid for? No, there's nothing saying we can't push for more for something we pay this much for, and continue to pay month after month. With the money they pull in, per sim, per month, there's no reason for it.
Really, the OP is posting a suggestion that seems possible, beneficial to those that it applies to, and wouldn't hinder anything against those that it doesn't apply to. Why anyone is crying foul at it is beyond me.

From: Eric Stuart Why anyone is crying foul at it is beyond me. I don't think anyone is out to give you a bad time, I certainly am not, but let me explain some of the concern. Generally, in the history of almost any online place, there is usually more damage done when the 'solution' is implemented with a sledgehammer. Most of us have learned to be very, very, very, very careful about what we ask for... because we might get it. Sure, I could see a scenario where extended ban lists are implemented without too much trouble. But likewise, I see many other more probable scenarios where 'bugs' trash our teleport times for weeks while it is being worked out... yes, on top of how much teleports have been trouble in the past. We've had teleport problems for *years*... it's incredibly costly to some of us. My reaction is "for the love of god don't *touch* that..." ~ my inworld operations are on the order of 450 USD every 24 hours, and most of that goes to pay tier. A couple weeks of "whoops" is quite serious when you are paying close to 9000 USD monthly. It's certainly nothing personal and in the perfect world, I wouldn't mind a 'done right' change that would make you happy. I wish you the best Eric, but since you asked that is the source of my trepidation here. I've got a lot on the line.

From: Milla Janick Odd, I was just able to add way over 100 people to the banned residents list on my land. Am I missing something? That's what I was wondering. Hasn't it always been 300?

Really, the OP is posting a suggestion that seems possible, beneficial to those that it applies to, and wouldn't hinder anything against those that it doesn't apply to. Why anyone is crying foul at it is beyond me. I am not crying foul. I gave my views on why people grief and what motivates them to do it. My experience in dealing with greifers has taught me to not pander to them or engage with them on their terms. My place (mainland) averages 295 regular patrons each day. And because of the service my place offers, when I started up I got far more greifers than I could ever have imagined was possible. And on top of that I got advertising and spammer bots and vampires and robot sex workers and every other kind of avatar that I didnt even think were possible at the time, All designed to get a reaction from my patrons. An intrusion that my patrons found to be unnecessary, unwarranted and annoying. So I learned how to deal with all these annoyances and eliminated them along with the greifers. I chose not to use the banhammer. I put in scripted solutions. Each solution scripted to meet the different needs of my patrons. Today my place is untroubled and my patrons are able to go quietly about their business undisturbed. As greifers and bot owners have found, their time and efforts are wasted on my place. Is one thing to bait an owner into reacting personally and quite another to get dispassionately sent on your way by a script. I do get the odd person playing up now and again but is typically a new person fumbling their way through their first days in SL and with them then I am always prepared to make allowances. So I send them IM after they have been killed and sent home asking them if they ok and do they need any help. And I encourage my patrons to deal with other new people in the same way. I was not trying to tell you how to run your business k. And Im sorry that I gave you that impression. I was not addressing you in particular. I was addressing the question of griefing and what motivates people to do this and how I dealt with it. But if we were to discuss your business then. The ring. Who is supposed to be in there ??? The fighters and the ref ya. Put a script in the ring itself that chucks anyone else back into the audience while the fight is on and gives them an IM warning "Do it again and you're going home". And if they do it again then the ring sends them home and they are added to the sim TP gate autochit list only for the duration of that fight night. Come back next fight night buddy, behave yourself and all is forgiven. Is no interaction on your part needed with this kind of scripting. And it shows to your patrons that you run a tidy operation, That you are a good guy who doesnt hold a grudge but are not one to be trifled with. When people do misbehave then they know exactly what the consequences are going to be. And you can put similar scripts into other areas of your sim, based on what the standard of behaviour is that you expect from your patrons. Anyways is what I would do if I had a fight club.

From: ...After all these years, a ban list of 100 and even a groups list of 25 is just overly limiting without reason.[/QUOTE Unfortunately, there are physical and technological reasons for this
