Thanks for articulating one big reason why I've stopped going to clubs.

I agree.

*sigh*
Recap:

You didnt read the thread, asked rediculous stuff that was already covered, got a smug response, and posted two flame attacks.

I can clearly see your position, but my position is an internet forum is not worth pulling my hair out over. I refuse to loose sleep over somebody on the internet being wrong.

*shrug*

Now if you would like to enter into reasonable discourse please do so, but you lost me with the first flame digging post, let alone the second.
Well, you see, that's where you get it all wrong. For one thing, there have been no flames in this thread since I joined it, including in my first post. Perhaps you'd like to learn what flaming is. Another is that I asked sensible questions of you, not ridiculous (with an "i", incidentally and not an "e";) ones, which you declined to answer, presumably because you don't have any honest answers that don't make you look bad. The one question I did ask that turned out to be unnecessary is whether or not you put a tip jar out.

I also asked whether or not the hosts make public suggestions to tip you, and whether or not you ask the host not to do that. You declined to answer, so I do believe that the hosts do that on your behalf, and you don't make any effort to stop it - which puts you in quite a bad light considering what you've been posting in this thread. That's on top of the bad light that you put yourself in by expressing near contempt for people who tip you. But then it takes all kinds, doesn't it.

Here's something, I learned to write twice. Yup twice. I had an accident and suffered brain damage and had to relearn, I don't think I do badly but sometimes my spelling can be a bit rediculous :P The spelling nazi tactic is an old baiting method in forum flamewars and, honestly, a person with as many posts as you should be above that by now. Especially on an international forum. I write sufficiently elloquently for you to have the impression that English is my first language, that's not bad at all considering my first is php...

It's a matter of perspective. I didn't decline to answer I just could not be bothered because as I mentioned earlier, i'm not one to go loosing sleep because somebody on the internet happens to be a jerk. When you act like a jerk therefor (maybe that has an e on the end maybe it doesnt *shrug*) I just can't be bothered to deal with it, but that does not meen I don't have an answer. I do, but how much of my time do you think somebody being an awkward cuss deservers? I would argue only very little, and only when it suites me because I really dont have anything better to do at that moment, like right now.

Incorrect on all accounts. I am very clear that i'm DJing for the love of music and not money, that I dont wish to receive payment or tips. Neither do I DJ very often lately, but when certainly i've been put in the embarassing position of managers suggesting I should be tipped - i've never found a good solution, I just RL blush and get on with it.

Well that's the beauty of posting in a forum thread. The more times you have to repeat your point of view to get it across the further you appear to deviate from your own point of view because of the need to entrench yourself to be understood, when the reality is usually a grey blurry area somewhere West of Clapham.

Would it be my refusal to play those songs.. or are you just sick of em to? Cause really If I even think of playing them you can really hear a collective SL groan..

sorry for this being so long but f some future dancers are reading i'd like to help them see a different outlook on things that do work other than guidelines from a note card they get from a club that has all their dancer up there doing the same exact format.
Very well written, and spot on!

I have been a dancer long enough to have developed my own style, and for the most part, it works for me. I DO approach my job with a passion, and not as "just a job". I am there nearly every night, and I am frequently still there even hours after the event has ended, because I DO enjoy it.

But I do also have to accept the reality that my job is paying my rent; how well I do and how well people tip directly affects whether or not I can pay my rent and maybe even do some shopping as well. So, yeah, when tips are down, it does affect me greatly.

I do try not to think about it while I'm on the pole; but when I'm dancing to a large group of people and the tips do not reflect the number of people present or the amount of effort I've put into it, I cannot help but feel discouraged and start second-guessing my methods.

You and others here have posted some good tips and advice. Many of these I do already, but there is always room for improvement. :)
