Well, now if we told you, then you'd go and buy stuff there, and it wouldn't be exclusive anymore. :p

For *real* exclusivity, you'd need to contact a designer you admire and ask for custom tailoring, which will cost well into the five digits of L$s if you want the designer's word that nobody else will ever have the same garment.

In the meantime... depending on what kind of clothes you're looking for, you might consider Redgrave, just because the quality level is pretty evident. Maybe Vindi Vindaloo. I'm sure there are others. I guess just avoid anything that appears in the first few pages of Places search.

I don't think there is such a thing. When manufacturing costs are zero, it makes no economic sense for a designer to sell fewer copies of high priced items. With expensive clothing items still costing just a few bucks (US$), people aren't going to be impressed by their friend's high priced outfit just because it's 750L$ (about $3 US).

I have seen skins taken off the market in order to increase the prestige, but they tend to be much more expensive than clothes to begin with. I've seen clothing taken off the market just to keep things fresh, but not as part of any strategy to be exclusive.

I think the only exclusive clothing you'll find are those that individuals make for themselves.

Ok, sorry for my apparent poor wording. Could anyone tell me where to find what, in their opinion is the best men's clothing?

that depends on what look you are going for, but i always liked Blaze and Rebel Hope for guys for that well tailored man about town look, for casual, try mischief, as she does have a nice mens line up, thats it for me for mens clothing, maybe some of the fellas can speak up on this one. happy shopping!!!

ps: DE Designs is also worth a look as well.

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Ahh! A very, very different question.

My favorite resource is http://second-man.com . There are many excellent reviews there, from a several reviewers, each with their own point of view. It's also reasonably well indexed, by designer, article type, and style. If you're unfamiliar with the fine points of SL clothing, reading a number of the articles there will help you learn about the details - aligning textures, realistic folds, dealing with low-rise pants, prim add-on details, etc.

There's some spiffy suits and casual clothes at Made Man. Just pop it in your search menu.

Here's a thread full of ideas.

It really depends on what kind of style you like? Suits - casual(Tee's & khakis) - Grunge - Bling - Different century...

Guys clothes can be just duller than dirt. I'm especially not fond of the sport coats that part at your butt crack. Don't know why there can't be a prim attachment there. If I could tolerate the learning curve to make clothing I'd do something about that.

I did manage to get a custom costume made for me once without breaking into my life savings. It was scary, knowing I'd pay for it even if I didn't like it, but it worked out great and I was amazed at the creativity and speed of the designer.

It's so subjective. You'll see Made Men on pretty much every list whereas I find them grossly overprices for only slightly above average quality. None or right or wrong, it's just opinions.

As for me, I think Luxury by Vindi Vanderloo is one of the tops out there.

I've dropped you a notecard with my list of favorite mens stores.

You can always wear a skirt. Some jackets come with a lower part (skirt) so that when you wear it, it aligns with the jacket and covers your butt crack.. You sometimes have to make your bum (shape) smaller though, so as not to look too 'butty'.

There was a store open not long back where you could buy an exclusive design or a wholesale design. If you purchased the exclusive you took the item with you, but I'm not sure how you'd track if the designer wasn't selling it again or whether you'd have a leg to stand on really.

Last Call has some nice casual men's clothes for 100L each right now. I think the store is closing forever at the end of the month.

I think the last call people are leaving SL. I was in there when they first started the closing down sale and it was jammed with people.

Yes, which is why I mentioned that the shop was closing forever at the end of the month. :p

I don't know if she finally did get into making men's clothes- but Pocket Pfeffer is an awesome designer and has made several great pieces for me -she had said once she was going to try her hand at men's clothes.

Piggy backing on someone elses men's clothing thread.

Does anyone know where to get a '40's style suit and hat? I might want to go swing dancing in the near future.

I found some cool Fedoras at Second Thoughts. Not sure about the rest of the outfit, but I'd bet they have that too. I also got a terrific pinstripe suit with bowler hat which is kind of quintessentially British and great fun. People scramble out of your way when you're dressed like that for some reason.

[Edit - the bowler hat outfit doesn't come with a walking cane, but these are easy as Cartel Pie to make]

Have a look at Secondguy Mall. They only sell menswear and have a number of very good & original designers.

The most exclusive clothing on the grid are Desmond Shang socks.

After years of not even knowing how to make socks someone said: It's EASY! Come On! And told me where to click.

So I clicked and made a new pair of socks! It was so easy... I didn't have any good textures so I made them a kind of charcoally tone. Hides a lot, right? Just socks anyway.

I can assure you with utmost confidence and stake my reputation on it, as of 18 Mar 2008 NOBODY but nobody has these Desmond Shang socks.

* * * * *

If you are truly interested have your people call my people, gather the best negotiators and virtual lawyers and we can discuss a fully exclusive, lifetime, signature design that most assuredly will be *the* most rare pair of socks on the grid. Evar. Price will be the last item on the agenda; we are more concerned with publicity optics here, appearances, 'soft' benny's.

Those socks simply can't be in the same image as... well, I won't name names publically, but unless you are running with the A list, ixnay on the ock-says... and no 'slumming' with the socks no matter how chic it seems or how intimately private. Paparazzi are everywhere, and even a close friend might turn on you.

I'd prefer not to disclose terms of the agreement to the public at large, and we can do a press release to the various news outlets once the deal is closed, with an appropriately ostentatious but not overly self-conscious fete. You know the kind - where the guys all dress in business ultra-casual black, the ladies wear PETA-friendly pleather and there are those funky blue martini's. I'm a Californian tech type after all, let's make the most of it!

Last tip - as with any one-of-a-kind item with such exclusivity and designer heritage, you might want to secure a good appraiser in case something befalls your avatar while in possession of said socks. Never know - anything from password loss to SL divorce might getcha - just look at what happened Sir Paul McCartney!

For such appraisal I would gently suggest the services of Raymond, Trout, and Bradley Inc. - call them even before you call your banker.

Exclusively,

Des

Rebel Hope has a wonderful limited edition tux available at the Relay for Life Clothing Fair. It's L$1000 (US$4.00 approx) and the entire amount goes to the American Cancer Society.
