I agree that there are scumbags.

I just don't agree that people should keep lists of people who may or more importantly MAY NOT be guilty of something.

what if the list only contained people who were proven to be griefers, land splitters, etc? Would that be alright?

It's frustrating to me living in the west now and having missed all the lawless days. I think going back to persecuting without a trial sounds like a pretty good plan.

Its not that hard. You just go to the 16m plot with the RL porno images or other such visual joys in an otherwise residential area and check to see if the plot is for sale for some extortionistic amount and then add them to the list.

Its pretty obvious what the intent is is such cases. In another case in our hood, some creep bought a 512 in a lovely area, filled it with really offensive spinnning boxes (up to 100m) and no one added him to the list. Someone eventually just bought the parcel for the extreme amount and all the neighbors just banned him from our parcels.

As well, if someone feels unjustly accused, they can always just say so and we have had that in this forum where 16m types have claimed to be targeted...I guess this has become a court of last resort in a way.

It makes me wonder if we could have a forum for just this. Sort of a court hearing. And forum members could go look at the situation and discuss; its happened before where people have gone to see and the response has sometimes been for or against. No verdict, just discussion.

What do think?

I doubt LL would provide such a forum, but I'd be willing to entertain the idea... lets make one =P

I read that a LONG time ago, LL used to call in random residents to sit as jury members for every Abuse Report. They discontinued it, but I think it would be cool to reinstitute it. Didn't Phil say at one point that he'd love for us to form our own government or something?

Make your own government for your island or something..... that would be cool in my opinion lol... as a whole, I think that SL is too varied for a single government, and it would probably end up being demolished (The gov't, not SL lol) by LL because of complaints

Yes, I remember that too...it is in the old SL News issues about the jury.

But it has been working in a defacto way in these forums. Maybe its best it stays informal and a form of rough justice because I'm not a fan of the type of people who want to do these things in a formal way...

It does seem that some form of Consumer Reports and/or list of known scumbags is happening in some informal way now. I wonder if that will change when we get the advanced Search Options that are rumored to be coming...every system has been gamed so far: ratings, traffic and so called unbiased reviews in various SL publications...and the points about the unfair or vindicative use of scumbag lists are valid.

In small communities, a good reputation is key. Maybe a list of good guys is a better idea. Shop here first, look for these people as your neighbors, etc. No one would complain about being on a good guy/good store list.

Again, some of that is happening in these forums...

I know I read recently that a sim owner went defunct and all the residents did form their own government. They had political parties, taxes, etc to keep the sim running. If I recall correctly I searched for the sim and nothing showed so I assumed it didn't work.

well.. even if they did taxes for tier, if noone is able to pay it to LL in the end, kinda out of luck =/

As I understood it, LL worked with them as an experiment. I'll have to see if I can find the article again. It was interesting.

From what I've seen the methods used to combat ad-cutters and ad-farmers just add to the problem. Huge tree screens or silvery walls are just as intrusive and less colourful than what they are used to hide.

One of the most notorious ad-cutters was a member of Arbor Project until they managed to eject him!

I am not land cutter, scammer, tend to be loner and strife to be ethical but some may think I deserve title of scumbag too.
