One of the best-known ad-cutters is back. I bought a couple of cheap 16's this morning and joined them to put my vendor on to sell my own creations. The ad cutter in question was acually there, sitting on the ground!
Anyway, while I hate the ugliness of ad griefing or for-sale griefing, I think using small plots as stalls to sell your goods is fine as long as one keeps it unobtrusive. I also picked up a couple of genuine roadside 32m plots really cheap - I put vendors on those too. Could they have been part of an automated bulk sale which didn't take account of location? _____________________

I think you are crediting LL with a bit too much competence. I doubt anyone has had an application for a license approved yet. Like this is a bad thing? It's akin to putting the highway zoning plan in a locked box in a locked cabinet in a locked store room in the basement of city hall. /me waits for adfarmers to lie in front of the Linden bulldozers _____________________

no he just started a group with 5 alts in it.a thickingly priced land trust if you catch my drift so if you guys all miss ARing him you can come on over to brouwer and AR his little star gambling machince if you want I've already ARd him several times. Wow, I never knew we all had so much in common and I bet it made us all who ARd him feel so good! I noticed a few weeks ago in his profile that he had been cracked down on by the Lindens for ban-lines around micro parcels. I think the Lindens know who he is and will go after him first. |

Hmph!! I've just had a new one turn up, who has placed three rotating for sale signs plus several large plywood boxes inches from my balcony!! I have put up a screen, but they just spin through this and you can still see them over the top. If I knew how to post a picture, I would!
Plus, 32 sq m for sale for LS2999! Woot!!! Edited to Ad. I AR'd the signs, came here and vented. by the time I got back, they were gone!!! Well, all but one of them! Me does a happy dance. _____________________

Nope, they're still here, for the most part. It appears that they are no longer multiplying, though. That's progress!
Come see the Disl sim for a disaster that I hope will be cleaned up! _____________________

The adfarmer in my mainland sim put up floating cubes offering to sell all of her 250 adplots across the grid as a 'successful advertising business'. This was two weeks before the blog announcement. Too little too late. I doubt she will be able to make a sale now.
I am just waiting until October 1st to see her cubes magically dissappear. . _____________________

They can still turn around and set the lots to be adlinks.
Remove all prims and sell surl links in the description for x amount of lindens, and meet the criteria to avoid repercussions. And since folks are buying picks, an offer of inbound links for x a week per plot might work out well to the point they make lindens on the lots. If they get say 12 at 10l a week per plot. that is 120L a week, 90l of which can go towards tier. So they can pay tier and make a profit at the same time. Only drawback is they have to alter the descriptions one at a time for each plot. _____________________

I have an igloo in my yard, and my business in SL specializes in Alaskana, or Alaskan knick-knacks and lawn art. I'd be out of business if LL cracked down on bad taste. Alaskan lawn-art? Do you have garden Nomes? |

No they haven't left the land nearby. I must admit that some of my other neighbors have such terrible looking homes that the ad farm kind of blends in. LMAO _____________________

They can still turn around and set the lots to be adlinks. But until the extortion scam is also addressed, they'll all just set absurdly high prices on their inventory of crap, hoping somebody will be stupid or frustrated enough to buy. So far that's been wildly successful for their alt^H^H^Hpeers. i think that would be an ice gnome or snow gnome Nome, Alaska, end point of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. But I have lots of gnomes in my yard. We do have grass and it's warm-ish 6 months out of the year. The other 6 is frozen, either ice or snow. Lawn art is a misnomer...permafrost art, or tundra art. |

Just an evil thought:
Do the new rules prevent people from putting a billboard on the side of their shop, for a price naturally. ? I was always wondering, instead of a bunch of tiny plots with ads, why didnt these people or companies pay to rent billboard space on someone's property or shop? _____________________

I think what might be allowed is something inside the shop or facing in toward the shop but not on the outside where it can be generally seen except for the shop's own sign.

Don't know if this qualifies as an ad farmer as such.
But a nightclub had bought up all the land around my property & placed links & ad boards advertising it. i just went home . . . . . . . . *drum roll* . . . . . . and all the boards are gone & the land up for rent ![]() jimbo |

I had the same idea, slap up the spam on the sides of big stores or w/e urbane area builds, 1. areas get spammed as easily as some ones' graffiti texture and 2. help the sim owners pay the bills ...if there HAD to be adfarms. _____________________

The blog specifically mentioned that they were not going after club owners who put up a sign for your business in their club for a fee (or words to that effect). I assume this means that people can put up billboards on their stores or in their clubs. In my view, that's not as bad as slicing up land into 16's, putting spinning eyesores on them and trying to extort money out of your neighbors to make it go away. Billboards can be used that way, but I don't see it as being as egregious an example of extortion as adfarms were.
It will be interesting to see how this develops. There will always be people like the adfarmers who have no ethical or moral fiber at all and no problem stealing, cheating or otherwise being complete douchebags. Once adfarms are restricted, these bits of human debris will resurface somewhere else with some new scam or cheat. They are incapable of making Lindens honestly or just buying them like the rest of us. They'll come up with something. _____________________

Only one of about 12 gone so far. Problem is, several of them are from defunct ad networks, whose owners have moved on or only log into SL once in a while to count the money they have made from their extortive markups on them.
As such, I expect to have to file a stack of ARs on Oct 1. ![]() |

If I remember correctly, some months ago a Linden, perhaps it was Jack but I'm not sure of that, stated that any resident has a right to sell their land for whatever price they want.
Now, if the plot is filled with obviously annoying content and set for a high price, we all know what that is about. And doughnut holes are also quite obvious in their intent. But, given the above statement, I am still going to wait to hear LL's take on empty, non-banlined 4x4 plots that are not in the middle of someone's land before I start filing ARs on them. Even if they are priced at L$9999, or L$777. As far as I'm concerned, if they are just sitting there empty the owners can hold them until SL freezes over. |

Nope. Still got the tall, pointy-topped towers of ads in my Sim. Apparently I need to hire voice escorts, watch a certain channel on TV, upgrade my shape, and visit a hot mall. So much to do, so little SL time ...

Word in the feedback thread is that some "ad networks" were notecarded today, which reminded me of th' "ageplay" notecards back in March 2003 (an which came before th' big ban of May 2003)
I did a quick look along the railroad tracks in Heterocera early this mornin', at some of my favorite "trouble spots." Many of them are being cleaned up, though there's still a large number of towers an stuff in Cyncia. One of the bigger networks has set their ads to an alpha texture too, leaving their boxes intact while otherwise appearing to be gone (the parts of their signs that do not display ads are still visible). Some areas are definitely cleared or otherwise cleaned up. Anyone else seein' movement on these today? Mari _____________________
