There are some people among us who are 'self actualized'... they have arrived, they have been all they can be, they have experienced everything, and they are at their pinnacle...
But for the rest of us lowly, humble people are still struggling to find out where we fit into the great picture...
How and where do you see yourself fitting into SL?
How do you see yourself in SL?
What are your hopes and dreams, your aspirations in SL?
(And NO...this thread is only for lowly, humble people like myself who have not yet arrived... the arrogant need not reply)
(sorry ...no poll, I don't want to stiffle your style, and remember...there are NO wrong answers...)

When I first entered SL, I had no pre-conceived ideas of who or what I should be, or which direction to go. I hadn't had a lot of exposure to even the concepts of SL, so I was a blank slate. I'm busy busy all the time, between the slew of affiliate stores, the club (and employees), the skybox rentals...so much so that my free time has been severely limited. Yet, being that busy seems to be what I thrive on anyway. Have I arrived? Hm, probably not. There's been an article written about me in FreeLife Magazine, I have 10 people that I manage, some fairly big SL names know my name...but arrived? Nope, not yet. I'll get there though

Hmmmmmmm
High Heel Fetish (in a completely hetero and perverse way) Makes Shoes (in a completely hetero and perverse way)
To what degree of success? I dunno, don't care. I enjoy what I do and I am glad I can make a few people happy with what I do.
I was thinking about changing the slogan to:
Shoe Fly Fetish Driven, Boner Approved
Anyone?

I've been in SL a year now...when I first joined up...I had absolutely no idea what it was about or where I would fit in..etc I've tried just about everything apart from scripting...lol But the thing I'd like to do most of all, I've only done once so far... I'm a singer in RL, and am just 'chomping at the bit' to do live performances in SL. So If I was to really think about my 'place' in this virtual world, I would have to say it would be as a performer. So, I haven't 'arrived' yet as such....but the process of 'getting there' is such an interesting one, I plan to take my time..

From: someone How and where do you see yourself fitting into SL? One year ago a visitor to my home IRC channel told us about SL - a wondrous world where not only can communication be by text, but also by sight, sound and action. After a bit of resistance, I was the first "pioneer" of the group to venture to SL and set up homestead. I LOVED it immediately. At that time I lived and participated within a specific role play community. I only ventured out when my new friends took me shopping for an AO, clothes and hair. After reporting back to my IRC clan that SL was indeed a wondrous place, others from that channel joined me in SL, rented land and began re-creating the SL version of our IRC home. To pay for my portion of the land rent, I acquired a job, which opened new vistas of SL to me: dancing, socializing, different types of clothing, etc. Through that job I was blessed to meet my now Partner and from that moment on, my SL changed and widened drastically. I once saw myself as only "fitting" into a niche role play community but now I see myself fitting into a variety of SL places/themes/activities, depending on mood or events, etc. From: someone How do you see yourself in SL? My SL avatar, which is human 95% of the time, is the online representation of the offline me. Although I may role play in themed sims, I am always the authentic "me-behind-the-monitor" with the same personality, emotions, belief system, etc. I see myself in SL as being able to participate in areas of interest (ie. Medieval, Victorian, LOTR, etc.) and activities (dancing, surfing, skydiving...) that I don't have available offline - or to the same degree. From: someone What are your hopes and dreams, your aspirations in SL? Having just purchased my first land today, I am planning for the future. I have spent the past year absorbing, exploring, learning and hope to use those experiences to help others in some manner - specifically using my passion of teaching - as well as continuing and perhaps expanding my little shop. I hope for more memories to tuck away along with those from last year - perhaps meeting new friends, more exploring and of course, constant learning.

I'm still in exploratory mode ... both of the grid and of my own potential in it. With everything from RP to commerce to art to economics ... it may be a bit before I find my true niche.

I've been in SL a year plus. Had a gallery up a good 6 or so months or more. Never did succeed on any real level. Gallery gone. Didn't arrive. Not even the person I was, though I also had gallery up as Lexxi, but that is gone now also. My place? I'm a pet. That's good enough for me. Still sad, though, about that.

I have been working, struggling to learn how to do this "perfect, high quality, creative, digital content" for really, really long time. As whole of entire Second Life where I belong? I am just humble Artist who enjoys creating and sometimes gets bit bent out of shape.... I don't really sale stuff. I often wonder if anyone would buy my stuff. Most of time I think there is so many better skilled people out there and I am really not that gifted, bit invisible and in big picture of SL I don't know if matter much. Sometimes being part human this bothers me. Yet when I am creating and in that whole energy that goes with creating either with friends or myself none of that matters and I feel very special and connected to bigger unseeable grid where there isn't bugs, server or the concern about where my next dollar for upload or come will come from. What will it look like when I have arrived? I will master the biggest and most next thing to pixel crack that all of you will have to get your fix Just joking. But seriously when I don't get cranky when things get overwhelming, and I feel more secure and confident in whatever I am creating regardless if anyone ever wants to pay me a dime for them. It would be added bonus if I could some how have a job doing what I love to do and no longer live in rl poverty....but I don't know if it will happen here in SL.

I came in also not knowing anything about what to expect. In the almost two years (come November) I have made many friends, rediscovered love, opened my mind to all sorts of thoughts and temperaments.
I had never considered any sort of career here - no jobs, no stores, no anything of the sort. But lately I have been playing with making clothes. I might leave it tomorrow- I might open a great store - doesn't matter..the journey is the purpose and what I discover along the way..
Arrived? I hope not - Arrived implies an end to the journey.

I came into SL not really having any expectations, not knowing what it was except that my sister and a friend had tried it and said they liked it. I didn't know of all the different aspects you could get involved in...furries, gor, neko, etc. so I just made my avatar like me in RL and went out exploring. I did the typical newbie thing for awhile and then realized how much there really was to offer and looked into what all those different aspects were. I learned a lot about SL, building, texturing and eventually opened a shop that focuses on a subject I enjoy and is something I wish I had the time and money to do in RL. Fast forward to present day and I feel like I'm enjoying my SL experience to its highest capacity with my business, friends and a hobby that financially supports itself.
I don't know if thats what would be considered having reached my pinnacle or not, just that I am happy where I'm at in my SL.

From: Amaranthim Talon Arrived? I hope not - Arrived implies an end to the journey. I like this. It's a nice thought Me? I hangout at the forum hangout. i occasonally explore or hide out in a favourite cave. I buy things. I occasionally make the odd item. I have fab friends and hope I am a good friend in return. I have fun. Thats how I fit into SL. not sure about the bigger picture. I don't think I'd ever be comfortable being the 'main event'. I'd rather be one of the people in the background, or the friend who has helped them get to where they are, but no-one knows the name of lol. I'd like to make more stuff, but trying to find the patience to work on something for ages when I am not in the mood is hopeless. I'd rather just make the odd item as and when the mood strikes. I've been in SL for almost 9 months now and never sold anything. I'm happy with that, it's not something I am looking to do. As for hopes and dreams and aspirations...I have everything I want or need. I am still on a journey, but it is a comfortable one, not aiming for any particular destination. I have my friends, I have love, I have my wardrobe. I'm happy

When I arrived in SL in September 2006, I knew how I wanted to look and how I wanted to pursue my Second Life dream. I have stayed consistent with that all along - other than a few enhancements and adjustments along the way my appearance hasn't changed much. I see myself as a free-spirited, have-a-go rock chick who is a bit like a grown-up version of Alice in Wonderland, i.e. a normal person at large in a strange, surreal world. I've built quite a lot of stuff, not least my home. I've made clothes, got myself looking right, dealt a bit in land (never any ad-cutting, mind!). I've made friends, helped a few people learn stuff. I don't think I'm ever going to become rich financially in SL, my ambitions are fairly modest.
