From: Jessica Elytis I have to agree with the others. ALL the newbie places are like this. I know of groups of peopel that go to these palces to "hunt" the griefers harrasing teh newbies. However, this is a poor solution as the griefers jsut keep comming back. ~Jessy No all the newbie areas aren't as bad Waterhead I think is the only one with scripts enabled and build turned on. The others are pretty safe from all but verbal griefing.

From: FD Spark Well I personally haven't thought of anything painful with that name...though I do image my perfect Gaybot would be very shiny, yet with soft lining over his metallic muscular build with leather chaps, with cute shiny tush, leather boots with buckles, and leather vest open showing of some nice shiny nipple rings and handle bar black metallic mustache with his hand on hip Gaybot would proclaim to all when entering the room and his queenliest leather lisp, "Hello All you studly Men!" And he wouldn't say anything rude about the Women and Tuna LOL lol, omg, u have quite the imagination My avatars never usually have one look; my main name has probably over a hundred folders with avatar parts in each one....furries, women, robots, bugs, pokemon, etc I did make a robot avatar recently I am still working on. (pretty shiny, no chaps though) I will have to show you what it looks like when I am wearing it and I play the Chocolate Disco gesture; it's hilarious!

I understanding the need to change one's look often...though I gotten bit lazier about changing my appearance. What is the Chocolate Disco gesture ? I am not familiar with it

From: Bradley Bracken Damn, I wish I wasn't busy. I'd love to grab some popcorn, pull up a lawn chair and watch. Before I crashed out, nothing much happened. I ran into Warda there, chatted with a couple of new people, gave them a quick primer on griefers, emphasizing they were mostly pathetic attention seeking juveniles, and reminded them that nothing that happens can hurt them, so just laugh at it and move on. I gave out some landmarks to NCI and that was it.

From: someone Waterhead is a dangerous, wild west sort of sim even thought it is rated PG. The land allows scripts to run and builds to be rezzed for a few minutes. (I think one) Lots of new people show up there and are very confused as to what is going on. This is nothing new been this way for over 2 years. ita a heaven for griefter there. Nice catch tho.

There's nothing wrong with new people going there. They've been doing this for a few years now.
As a new resident I was also sent there and look how I came out.

First, good for you, Gaybot. We need all the helpers we can get. Second, good for you, Gaybot, for taking all the abuse so stoically and with such aplomb. Third, shame on LL. Not only do they fail to police the welcome areas, they've made it far easier for unsuspecting newbies to get there. There is a new, additional exit sign on OI that takes people to one of three welcome areas/infohubs. It's easier to spot than the older exit sign leading to Help Island. Fourth, you might lessen the abuse if you use an alt with a less provocative name, say "Michael Bigwig". Or "Bionic Bimbogami".

I don't know anyone with issue of Gay in Gaybot and becomes abusive is actually in violation of the TOS. Under the "tolerance" section if I recall. Why should Gaybot be anything other then Gaybot? Why should Gaybot have to hide the Gay in his/her nickname? Just a thought. Anyway I am glad Gaybot is off helping people.

Waterhead is just another area taken over by idiots and it has been that way for a long time. My advice is to stay away from that cesspool and go to the other cesspools such as the Ahern welcome area. If nothing else, in Ahern they can sound grief you to death, but they can't orbit you.

From: Coco (I took a picture of it, and would post it here if I knew how.) Not that I necessarily want to see that picture, but for posting pictures in these forums that you have on your hard drive, you can get a free photobucket account. You might find it useful to advertise or to put up more pleasant pictures. The photobucket site has a dialog box that lets you locate the file on your hardrive. You click on a button to upload it. Once it's on the photobucket site it takes you right to a page with the code you need to put in the forums here. If the picture is a snapshot in your Second Life inventory, find the picture in you SL inventory, double click it so it opens up where you can see it, then do "File / Save Texture As " save it to your hard drive. Then go to the photobucket site and do the uploading and getting code to paste steps vaguely described above. It's easier to get the account and upload the pictures than it is to write the instructions. Photobucket has good help files and a forum to answer any questions you might have.

From: Anya Ristow I recently watched the Buffy episode where a group of kids are possessed by hyenas. It's what comes to mind when I visit welcome centers Buffy episodes comes to mind wherever I go. Is this like Waterhead? "Welcome to Sunnydale"

Mentors

There is a new, additional exit sign on OI that takes people to one of three welcome areas/infohubs. It's easier to spot than the older exit sign leading to Help Island. ... I just want to let people know that the mentor program has been revived recently and the results are starting to show positively. The program is still a "work in progress" but the Linden's Vteam are working hard to make it more effective. Mentors tend to hang around the Help Islands and welcome areas and can help newbies in many ways. BUT ... mentors are volunteer SL residents and have no authority or powers beyond asking people to behave and filing the occasional ARs.

Well Gaybot, I must say I am proud of you, for your selfless actions.
But it's pathetic that Linden Lab allows such situations to fester and go on unchecked for so long. This is one of the big reasons I generally avoid the Mainland. Because, quite frankly, if I ever encountered a bunch of scum like the griefers you are helping the noobs to resist, I fear my temper would get the best of me, and I'd do things to them that would surely get ME banned in the end. And nothing is worth that to me.
I'll stay on private sims that are better managed, and if I *do* go to the mainland, I'll stay far away from the griefer-infested areas.

I just creates a new alt last week. I saw the new sign that I didn't remember seeing the last time I was on OI. That's how I ended up at Waterhead. That place is a zoo. It makes me think of a teenage runaway coming to New York City. Their first experience in the city is the Port Authority Bus Terminal on a Saturday night. Freaks and weirdos all over the place, and predators trying to take advantage of them. If someone's first experience in SL is anything like this, it's no surprise that 90% of new residents don't come back.

He shouldn't have to, FD...not in an ideal world. But we've established that the people in Waterhead are idiots. It's simply a case of not giving the idiots a handle to latch onto. Anyway, it was just a suggestion. Surely Gaybot should be proud of his name. It's unique, and I for one like it. If he wants to wear it in what amounts to a free-fire zone, more power to him, I say. But you and I and Gaybot all know darn well that it's going to draw fire.

/me awards Gaybot The Silver Prim, for Courage under Fire. You chose your name, wear it proudly. Don't subvert it to appease those dickheads. Nothing they can do can harm you anyway.

I visited Waterhead late last night for over an hour and generally it all seemed pretty tame even though it was really busy. There were several people there helping newbies, no real violence or griefing going on. Given that experience I can see how if a Linden visited at a similar time they would think there really wasn't a problem that needed full time Linden supervision.
I saw several ruthed avatars rezz naked and most promptly disappear before I could ask if they needed help. This happened often enough I wondered if they were some kind of bot.
