Entirely depends on the kind of stuff you wear, imo, not its price.

In my experience, looking like a cheap b*tch is very expensive. If you've achieved it with freebies, you've won!

Absolutely not. I have been in world for two years now and have an inventory stuffed full of expensive outfits, but many of my favourite, most worn outfits are freebies.
Try not to care about what somebody this shallow thinks of you. Also, ask yourself why this guy was in a freebie store in the first place. |

I've been in SL for 4 years using various avatars and I still often wear the same freebie worn jeans that I got soon after starting simply because they look better then 99% of the stuff I've found since.
It doesn't matter what price you paid, how much love the designer put into the product is the more important factor. |

I've been here two and a half years and I've bought very little clothing. Most of my clothes I made myself, but I do have some decent freebies - all my jeans are freebie ones and are as good as any I've seen.

That person was clearly an asshat.
There are freebie items that look cheap and nasty, but there are also very expensive items pedalled by well known stores which could be as bad. Conversely there are some very excellent freebies out there if you can find them. Ignore him and concentrate on finding those good freebies ![]() |

Do you guys think that I am a cheap person that I wear free stuffs? I'm new here too, less than 14 days and I had the same experience on the Help Island with I first started. You will meet more people like that dude, I'm sure. They are a fact of life. Ignore them. Jackie. |

No...you're not cheap or a b****.....ignore that crap. But, this kind of thing always makes me wonder....wtf is UP with people. Isn't this supposed to be populated by adults? Seriously.....what person do you know IRL who would walk up to a total stranger and say something like that, totally unprovoked? It floors me...it really does........is it just because we're in a virtual world that people just lose all sense of tact and class and over all consideration for others? Does our maturity meter automatically drop when we log in? What....I wanna know, dam it! LOL anyway......absolutely you are not a cheap anything.....you're being savy and thrifty and like many have said...there's a lot of cool stuff available for free...... In fact I stumbled on the Gnube shop a few days ago and had a blast grabbing up some goodies there! |

if i like it, i'll wear it. some of my most favorite attire was acquired via lucky chairs.
having said that, i do also believe there is entirely too much free stuff out there. _____________________

Likewise to what everyone has said. Some of my best clothing has come from freebies.
Besides, what "guy" calls a girl a cheap bitch? Most try and pick you up.. Sounds like a female masquerading as a male alt to me ![]() _____________________

I'm a freebie snob myself, I don't think I have any left in inventory, but some of the gang here have put together stunning looks with freebies, so yeah, I would have told the jerk to take a hike.

One wonders what said dude was doing in that selfsame freebie store in the first place. Possibly searching for his own 'special little freebie'? You should have handed him a landmark to Midnight Lotus and told him he'd have got a better (designer, no less!) freenis there than at a freebie store
![]() Unfortunately, you'll come across jerks like that many a time in Second Life. You'll even find them telling you to get a real life (uh-huh, which they clearly have whilst logged in-world, harrassing others). Your particular Special Little Jerk there probably had a chuckle at his wittiness, then moved on to try and ruin someone else's day in the same manner. Some of the best freebies are offered by big-name designers, and many of us bloggers (HoneyBear and myself, for example) write about them. Just because an item is free that doesn't mean it's cheap (although yes, there is a lot of extremely old and common-as-muck freebie content to be found in-world; stuff that's been doing the rounds for years and is the equivalent of a manky old pair of sneakers and a grubby t-shirt three sizes too small, found mouldering at the back of the wardrobe). Likewise, as someone has already pointed out, just because something costs several hundred (or thousand) L$ that doesn't mean it's the most awesome, gorgeous outfit/skin/hairstyle/pair of shoes in SL. Ignore idiots like Special Little Jerk. Right-click on them and select 'Mute'. They turn a lovely shade of bland grey when you do that, and you can get on with your shopping in peace. When I get in-world shortly, I'll send you a notecard containing links to a whole heap of freebie blogs. You'll soon discover some fantastic designers, offering great items for free. ![]() _____________________

I get a kick out of wearing a $L1,000 dress...of course, it has to LOOK fabulous, but part of the kick is that it IS a (relatively) expensive item. I like the feeling that gives me...like the old L'Oreal commercials that said, "sure, it costs a little more...but I'm worth it."
But that's just my own personal gratification. I would never put someone down for wearing freebies. In fact, if you put together a fabulous look for free, you're probably a better person than me, and deserve praise, not censure. Even more so if you made the stuff yourself. _____________________

Don't listen to the ones drinking the haterade. I'm not sure if you're new but I often encourage folks just starting to try out some freebie things and there's nothing wrong with that. It's a good way to get started and helps you figure out what is worth paying for. Eventually you will get an eye for what is a high quality freebie and what isn't so you can be a bit more discerning in what you do choose to pick up or pay for.
Personally I do spend a fair amount on clothing but even since I've started, the quality of freebies has gone up immensely and I've picked up some really good finds. The pickin's are even better for girls and you could easily do well with a freebie woredrobe. Others might look down on you for freebie shopping but don't even focus on them and just have fun. Those that do, are probably the stupid ones that will shop at places like this: "This is a premiere vendor targeting the high end of SL’s fashion market. Her *redacted* collection will range in price from a low of L$3500 to a staggering L$25,000 for her one-of-a-kind designs." It's by appointment only - requiring a 500L deposit - LMAO. http://shoppingcartdisco.com/?p=866 PS Oh and in the Amity freebie thread, didn't someone say they went to a store without a door .. perhaps this was it .. lulz _____________________
