Doesn't really seem to need much moderation, IMO..

As usual, the sky has not fallen
even tho there is no active moderation, the forums still seem to be cooking along and many questions are still being answered. Some of you may remember that a while ago I started a Jira issue asking for the Lindens to appoint SOME sort of moderators for the the forums, either Lindens or residents. Qie and I then tried to facilitate that by meeting with several Lindens. For those who might be curious, here's what I learned while doing that: -- Several Lindens have the full list of current resmod volunteers culled from the threads here and the Jira comments. LL is not looking for any more volunteers at this time. -- No new resmods have been appointed since Strife stepped down. -- Last I heard, LL was leaning toward moderating the forums in-house. -- Aki Linden, the temp employee who was nominally moderating the forums, is now no longer at LL. No idea whether any other Linden(s) are now reading the forums, tho Jeska (who used to moderate LONG time ago) posted to a thread recently. -- Qie and I are no longer pushing on this, after being thanked for our efforts. Presumably we'll all hear about any LL decisions concerning the forums via blog or something. -- The job req for a "Community Manager" has been taken down, so perhaps they made that new hire -- forum management was part of that job's responsibility. what`s wrong with the self centerd double standard wannabe mods we have...? You will still see people suggest that threads be posted in other forums, but generally that is done in a sincere attempt to help the asker get the best answer to their question. |

well now that the moderators are retired or MIA, i think its time Strife open up those private dossiers he mentioned. I mean, its not like it matters anymore.

wait a minute...hold up..I wasn't a part of any of the griefing or arguing that went on in that thread..the last two pages..i did not even try to post cause i was afraid I would get bitten..I was simply trying to post here why it was locked..certainly not passing judgement on anyone about anything anywhere.. You can usually take me at face value if I rolled my eyes it was because of the utter mess that thread had turned into..it was worse than your average derailment..Thats all...If i muster the nerve to pass along an opinion about someone elses actions in these forums..there will be no doubt about who or what I'm talking about..my sarcasm tends to wreak...of igenuity ((no subtlety here)) ![]() ok?..i meant nothing by that. ~Lana Tomba ![]() _____________________

I think so many messages were sent to poor Aki that she suffocated in a pile of abuse reports.
She has expired; God rest her soul, and may her replacement not share the same fate.As long as Raymond's alt is here to hold up the sky for us, we'll be fine. ![]() |

If we could all act like the adults that we should be, and use generally accepted rules of ettiquette and manners, then there should be no need for a moderator in our discussions. I don't go to a dinner party with my friends and need a man in the corner waiting to tell us that we are "off-topic".

Listen, when LL doesn't want to do something, they Really. Do Not. Want to Do It.
So whether it makes sense or not, what they are or aren't doing, we just have to grasp that they really do NOT want to do it. coco _____________________

Its seems like a joke at times. awhile back they started a banning game from GAME and Forums if you posted anything LLABS didnt like what you said. But look now? Its just a joke........Nobody gets banned anymore ( maybe thats good ) But if that is a fact then maybe those that have been blackedballed by a few fruity and sometimes unstable Lindens should have their records cleared. The Lindens views how the forums are used and run is like a left on a windy day. blowing from left to right, up and down.........

The lindens are probably happy to leave us as we are ..because all the time we are messing up in here and pulling each other apart we are leaving the grid alone

Yes it was sorry to see Mari's thread get like that, had it probably been anyone elses thread I would have not cared at all, if it was allowed to die of natrual causes, I just stopped opening it after a while, only opened it at the end because I saw Strife post.
We are adults and if 2 want to duke it out, let em go for it, neither them had reached physical violence yet ![]() _____________________

Aki was a temp? Pfft. *muttering* The forums are no worse than when Strife ran his reign of terror around here. No where near where they were 18 months ago. Why this constant whining and complaining, "Oh poor us the forums are so awful"? And I do think some credit is due to the posters here, who are generally fairly civil. One problem I foresee (I know, I worry too much) is that because we've been reasonably well-behaved on our own, we may well chafe at the yoke of a new moderator, should one or more ever be appointed. If ever that happens, it will be a test of us all to remember that moderators are kinda expected to moderate occasionally. |

The thing is that entry to this forum is restricted, and it is not actually that well known anyway. This has the consequence that
(a) We do not have the usual problems of random spammers and trolls that other boards have - nobody is going to go to the trouble of signing up to SL just to say "your all gay" or to talk about free iPods, particularly as the registration mechanism is pretty much opaque to bots; (b) Most people here are at least slightly experienced SL residents, who have enough interest and investment in SL to have heard of the forums and come here. Thus the population is likely to be a lot politer and more reasonable than your average Aethernet Discussion Place. On the other hand, as soon as somebody _does_ decide that they want to mess about, they will be able to do so very easily. This is particularly true when it comes to the less obvious tactics - not flooding a forum with irrelevant topics, but, say, a team of posters who relentlessly chase a victim between threads, bombarding them with off-topic insults until they quit in disgust. _____________________

It's no coincidence that the Title "Moderator" and "Moderate" are almost spelled alike and pronounced almost identically as well.
mod·er·ate /adj., n. ˈmɒdərɪt, ˈmɒdrɪt; v. ˈmɒdəˌreɪt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[adj., n. mod-er-it, mod-rit; v. mod-uh-reyt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation adjective, noun, verb, -at·ed, -at·ing. –adjective 1. kept or keeping within reasonable or proper limits; not extreme, excessive, or intense: a moderate price. 2. of medium quantity, extent, or amount: a moderate income. 3. mediocre or fair: moderate talent. 4. calm or mild, as of the weather. 5. of or pertaining to moderates, as in politics or religion. –noun 6. a person who is moderate in opinion or opposed to extreme views and actions, esp. in politics or religion. 7. (usually initial capital letter) a member of a political party advocating moderate reform. –verb (used with object) 8. to reduce the excessiveness of; make less violent, severe, intense, or rigorous: to moderate the sharpness of one's words. 9. to preside over or at (a public forum, meeting, discussion, etc.). –verb (used without object) 10. to become less violent, severe, intense, or rigorous. 11. to act as moderator; preside. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Origin: 1350–1400; ME moderate (adj.), moderaten (v.) < L moderātus (ptp. of moderārī to restrain, control), equiv. to moderā- v. s. (see modest) + -tus ptp. suffix] I've not seen too many here with those qualities(myself included))I think it's a little humorous that some who obviously have gone out of their way to display every attribute in these forums EXCEPT the afore mentioned somehow think they qualify for the position "Ring"...."Ring"...The clue phone is ringing ~Lana Tomba _____________________
