Rha, sorry your name didn't make it.

There were two threads started by Strife soliciting volunteers.

Those led to this contentious but still helpful thread I started soliciting feedback on improving the forums:
/327/9a/221612/1.html

Growing out of this, Qie and I started this thread when we decided to facilitate the Lindens firming up moderation for the forums by starting a Jira:
/327/4a/234101/1.html

And finally, the thread Kitty cited earlier on structuring the forums:
/327/19/234843/1.html

The list of names Qie and I sent to the Lindens was pulled from the 2 volunteer threads, as well as responses to the Jira. Strife also sent an earlier version. I think the Lindens may have editted the list a bit for the blog ... perhaps removing a few names they knew more about than we did? I haven't reconciled the two lists. But I guess Robin did not survey further within her own email or organization to find whoever you contacted.
.

I sadly did not read those threads as I thought they were more suggestion threads than something that was actually being put to the lindens

would not be much sense to say in a suggestion thread I have and will again volunteer to be a resmod LOL

strange I did send im's to the creators of the threads that were calling for volunteers wonder if the forum ate them

I did not post in them because I felt that I would just be opening myself up for abuse if I openly said I would volunteer, however since now it is a moot point I figured why not open up about my volunteering...

ah well

edited to add that there would be no reason for them to drop my name, if indeed they had it to start with (I have no strikes against me, never have had any warnings or anything of the sort, am a mentor in very good standing, and they know I love to help when and where I can)

my guess is that my name was skipped because I did not post in those threads and the im's did not go through

no biggie, just thought I would mention it in case I was not alone

Robin's latest post in the blog comments:

"A couple of things to note…

- the plan is to revitalize, not close the forums
- we agree that the list of reasons to close is weak, and that’s why we’re looking at revitalizing them
- I want to thank the people who volunteered, although I plan to move ahead with Linden moderators"

So, those of you who are disappointed you didn't volunteer to be a Resmod, you don't need to worry. There aren't going to be any.

Pretty much the same words a group of LHers got in a meeting prior to the shutdown of LH and instituting tickets.

Thank goodness. I'm sorry, but a couple of people on that list shocked the hell out of me. I have seen them start drama or be rude to people more times than I can count.IMO it's a bad idea to have any current posters be moderators. Favoritism would run rampant.

This Linden person put an abrupt end to these moderator dreams a few here were having. Hopefully, now this obsession comes to an end. It's about time too.

Ouch

Yeah you could take a serious cynical slant and picture a "revitalized forum" that resembled the blog ..

- Linden Lab has other ways to communicate and gather feedback
- people aren’t always very nice to each other
- there are other forums run by Second Life Residents
- we don’t have the staff to manage the discussion at the level we think is needed
- people should interact in Second Life rather than on the website

Actually the more I look at this, the more it annoys me.

- Linden Lab has other ways to communicate and gather feedback

Such as? Your website help section is useless...inworld search ditto. Earlier this year the incessant 503 errors drove your customers INSANE. Your blog is vague and generally poorly written in tech-ese, comments on it are usually closed. As it is, only your payment on file customers can access the website anyway. And as for customer service - I have never raised a ticket yet that was sorted to my satisfaction - and god knows I don't ask for much!

- People aren’t always very nice to each other

..... I am really lost for words here. Is anyone honestly this naive? Do you ever leave the house, sweetheart? No Robin, they aren't, I'm sorry that's such a shock to you, but yes, people do sometimes disagree. Debate is crucial if you want to move forward - sometimes, that debate will get heated.

As other posters have pointed out compared to the rest of 'teh internets' this place is positively tame. Also, Robin, you have serious issues with theft, fraud and griefing IN-WORLD - or perhaps you hadn't noticed?

- There are other forums run by Second Life Residents

I offer you a rough translation: "Ah feck it, let the residents do it. We can't be arsed supporting our paying customers, who incidentally keep this whole damn thing afloat. Let them pay large amounts of tier, spend hours creating content for it, AND pay to host their own website. Saves us time AND money - result!"

- We don’t have the staff to manage the discussion at the level we think is needed

Then why not hire some? And anyway, how much time would it take for someone to cast an eye over this website three or four times a day and lock any threads where the fur was really flying?

The general gist of all this? "We can't be bothered"

As if that wasn't clear enough from the myriad of issues SL has had over the last couple of weeks. The updates that break everything. The inventory loss. The TP bugs...and on and on and on.

Just a suggestion, fellas: your new CEO should have a proven track record in delivering superb customer service...because you sure as hell don't.

It annoyed me too at first, but to be fair, Robin reposted to make clear he also agreed that these reasons weren't very good. That is why they have decide to ask our opinions for a Facelift, ie. To keep them open.

Robin's a she, actually.. :)

/me doesn't know what to make of this. I do remember, back when I joined up, reading the LA forum and enjoying seeing LL around here. Then LA seemed to turn into nothing but a bitchfest and, not at all surprisingly, they shot it. Dunno if they'll bring LA back but I hope that whatever they do goes a little better this time.

LOL! Well I'm embarrassed... :o

Someone (probably a young'un) commented on how disappointed he was that there wasn't a TG forum. I wonder if it would be possible or too much trouble (limiting access) for them add. It's a shame that pervs have to ruin it for everyone...

I've gotten so much out of these forums, both moderated and not. We complain a lot when things don't work as expected, but there have been threads that got me so fired up again about the unlimited potential of the virtual world, I would probably stagnate without them. I'm confident the change will be tolerable, whatever it involves.

"At this point my plan is to work with Katt Linden to update the vBulletin software, map out a plan for revitalizing the forums and integrating them with the blog. Updating guidelines, revisiting permanent bans, archiving and creating new forums will all be part of what we look at. I’m sure you all will have lots of input, so please discuss with us here."

Robin, I would implore you to consider not integrating the forums into the blog. IMO, I find the blog less than helpful. It may be that I just don't understand how to use the blog but every time I've tried to make heads or tails of it I leave frustrated.

Though I understand policing the forums is counterproductive and tedious the blog to me, only tends to separate the residents from the Lindens. There is again, IMO nothing broken with the forums that can't be corrected with a suitable moderator and quick perusal of the sticky's that set the guidelines by the posters old & new.

I was greatly diss-appointed when live help left. More so with concierge service that cut me out (because even though I pay more than the minimum, its for two accounts, my partners as well as mine and both fall to the teir level just below concierge status) and so it minimized the immediate help I and many more like us could recieve. When the forums were slated to close it was with great relief that most was carried on .

I do applaud that LL see's the forums are integral to the residents and seeks to address some abuses that may be cropping up. The inclusion of Lindens to the forums would to me help with customer relations which I think is a good move.

SL has been at times appeared too quick to introduce new features while old bugs still continued to erode the overall attitude, so when you state integrating I get queasy, lol.

I respectfully submit, though a new forum may satisfy some and I am not totally opposed to that, the forums as are, are just fine and any major overhaul changing the look and feel of the current forums would further the gulf between residents and our hosts.

Bravo, that you would address a growing mismanagement of certain aspects. Now about them asset servers lol.

Ty for heads up NT that this was the wrong thread lol, will repost

I have to second this idea.

Please do not integrate the forums into the blog.

I'm really kinda ambivalent about this news. On one hand, I'm thinking this could be a good thing, and that the Lindens might be listening to us like they used to. On the other hand, I'm thinking "How do they screw up this time?" I'll just watch and see what happens or does not happen.

If a few names on that list actually do become resmods, that should make things.... interesting :p.

I must be missing something....where are these names listed please? :)

On the actual blog. But there are not going to be Resmods under Robin's plan.

Pretty much the same words a group of LHers got in a meeting prior to the shutdown of LH and instituting tickets.
What really got to me about that particular incident is that they admitted that the shutdown of LH had been decided 3 months prior to the announcement, yet in those months they still gave us "let's discuss the future of LH and how to make it better" and "we're planning to..." and even outright "of course we'll never get rid of it" lies.
