Its against any rule to run more than one AV at same time?

Nimue has a point about the lag.

If someone really feels the need to artificially inflate their traffic number by posting multiple alts on the parcel, I would hope they'd at least have the sense to stick them all up on a sky platform at 700m so they don't lag up the store itself.

If they're still in the parcel, but 700m up, wouldn't they still cause lag in that parcel?

I applaud your inventiveness and skill for creating an interesting client, and no doubt there are excellent uses for it. However, they create all the same problems that camping chairs do, without any of the benefits: putting $L in the economy and giving those without the talent, incentive, or knowledge a way to make a little income.

In fact im working in something related to this point, but i will no disclose it now.

However, im NOT releasing my software (and dont know if i will ever release it or just use it for my own). Just listening ideas.

Thanks for your opinions :)

I was about to say Just make sure they aren't doing anything Broadly Offensive with each other.

No, wait! Instead of dancing pads or camping chairs, why not sex pads?! Guaranteed willing sex-zombie for every camper. Multiple choices of pads, each with its own sex act. Think of the traffic! Think of the dwell! Think of all the pimply adolescents who can't even get a girl to cooperate on SL and wouldn't have to! You probably wouldn't even have to pay them! Maybe you couold even get them to pay YOU!

BRILLIANT!

But it sounds like you mean to make something that does more than the currently available options for running multiple clients, something more along the lines of a semi-autonomous bot for various activities? I'm sure you can find some audience for that, just not among the crowd who are interested solely in driving up their traffic numbers.

Right. You catch the idea!! :)

I hope and want, that my idea could get some nice uses, i can think a lot of them, like shows, modeling, etc.

First, SCRIPTS DO NOT CAUSE PHYSICS LAG; SCRIPTS DO NOT CAUSE DISPLAY LAG. They cause script lag, where an object is slow at responding. Bad ones may contribute to chat lag.
...

For most of SL residents, this kind of bot is worse than a camper (when used to generate traffic). It's all downside!
No, no.

You logic is wrong.

The camping chair attract avatars, its their target.

So at the end, you have the avatars PLUS the camping chairs (and yes, chairs listen to receive command from owner).

If you put 10 camping chairs in your store, you will have 10 scritps running PLUS 10 avatars sitting.

Ofcourse that makes more lag that having ONLY the avatars.

My logic is impeccable.

First, I agree that a camp chair uses SOME resources, so an av plus a chair uses more than just an av. However, you have not yet demonstrated that the camping chair's resource usage is significant. I claim it is not. I've been in sims full of empty chairs and no people, and things run just fine. (Note that this isn't proof, it merely corroborates my claim.)

Second, an owner-only listen is not significant, nor is a listen on a channel other than zero. It's open listens on channel zero that slow things down.

Third, the problem in camper-stuffed places is NOT usually that scripts run slow, it's that PHYSICS is slow -- you can't move well, etc. This effect even harms neighbors who can't see what's going on in the venue.

When you have 10 full camping chairs, at least you're putting $L into the SL economy and giving people (usually newbies) some $L to spend. This is the ONLY upside to camping for anyone other than the venue owner. When you have 10 bots, there is nearly the same downside, and no upside at all to anyone other than the venue owner.

But not illegal. No doubt you can sleep well at night knowing you've made SL a worse place for all the neighbors of most of your customers, and that's your biggest risk here.

Compare with camping.

With my software you can go to my store and saw lets say, 10 avatars there, walking betwen vendores or pictures, sitting, moving, all at random intervals... thats much better than camping.

Hmm if they are being used to model clothes on a catwalk bravo until there are 10-40 models on catwalks, draging performance down for other sim businesses/residents.
How do you feel when your 2 neighbouring businesses start using the same mod.

What use is traffic to judge how many people visit your store if 90% of it is your alts or campers.

Obviously robot models is one thing but when people make bots that appear to be residents or shoppers, that's deceitful

I'm sure they affect the sim's physics lag just the same, but the client lag should be reduced because it doesn't have to render them or download their textures or animations. From Desmond's post, it sounds like keeping them up there also lightens load on the server because the alts don't have to be downloading all the textures and animations of everyone who visits the store.

Of course this is just speculation as to exactly WHY it makes a difference in client lag, but as the victim of massive client lag I can definitely tell you my performance is better if all those avs are outside my draw distance.

Right, Ava.

Interesting, Numue. I'm liking the OP less and less!

But I have to blame LL foremost, because it's their policies that cause the problem. None of these things would be overdone if not for the idiotic traffic ratings.

Someone has finally, unwittingly perhaps, invented NPCs!

Now we just need someone else to program them to respond in chat to certain "trigger words," just like in MMOs, or perhaps to respond in chat to being clicked (also like in MMOs).

Yay! :D

Some will even be armed with freebie cager guns that they shoot at any nearby avie, and you can click those to see how they "con" to you, then attack them if you wish. :p

Then, if problem is resources, having chairs plus avatars is worst that having only avatars.

About the discussion of inyecting money to economy using chairs, i have the opposite point of view, i think it pervert the normal way of economy.

And if a cow plops on you and then a fly lands on it that is worse than just the plop.

No need to be apocalyptical here he he

I think that, putting at side the 'economy' discussion, my idea uses less resources than camping chairs. Thats A FACT,

And as i said, i feel like the camping chairs inyecting money has perverted in some way the normal dynamic and now everywhere is zombie zone.

Ok, if someone wants a nice 3d rendering of what their stock looks like without major sim lag... use whatever method for the models - hire people, make NPCs, whatever...

Film the catwalk as machinima, then upload said film to a server.
Then use your multimedia texture on a wall.

Instant shopping channel mural - 1 prim, no added AV or script lag.

Nothing perverted about paying people for rendering a service. The only problem here is that the service does a disservice to everyone else in the sim. But at least it circulates $L, which is GOOD for the economy.

In what economic sense is camping bad? Arguments, please! We're listening.

If I TP to a store and there's 8 million people (okay, eight really) and it takes 5 minutes to render the textures on items, I go somehere else in the hopes of seeing something worth buying.

You can't say camping chairs pervert the economy.

SL has no government, no taxes, no job programs, and really has no jobs outside of sex. So camping chairs do inject into the economy.

Owners of stores that are making L's hand over fist do not hire alot of people to manufacture, and alot of them are to busy to even go out to spend any L.

So think about the SL economy and how it is nowhere NEAR a real world economy. Camping chairs do have the owners spending back into the economy paying people to be in the store/place. Now if they just accept zombies then thats the owners fault. Have the campers model for them, interact....look nice....not be a default avatar. At least the campers with proper clothes and such you know spent something.

Now I'm all in favour of removing traffic and camping because of false stats and lag issues. However, I haven't heard of an alternative plan to give people a way to make money besides sex. (Not everybody can build, script, etc) The people who spend are usually the ones with the free time, not the really busy shop owners.

So, all I see this little software program doing is actually taking money away from people....

Think again. And, try to think a little harder than you did for this response. Do we really need to explain to you the difference in load on servers between avatars and streaming media?

I think you're just being defensive because you want to sell your product and you don't care that it has a negative effect on most SL residents.

why not just run multiple instances on your own pc?

start sl load in your normal av, start sl again load in the alt, put him or her on the posing stand to show off the clothes, minimize it and you go back to your normal one

granted this may not work for some, as their machine might not handle it.

My machine is not a powerhouse by any means but I can run 2 instances of SL at the same time without any negative effects (unless I have them both maximized then causes some pc lag for me, so I just minimize one)
