I could see a Hal Fan Club of groupies that follow him around the grid....like a cult following. If you need some traffic or exposure, would be smart to lure Hal over to your place, and keep him coming back. Going to be tough to keep your hands on him, though - he's charming.

Well i've now added him to part of my salesforce but I couldn't convince him that my other suggestion would make him happy.

you could give him a better image, that way people will accept him more, like its hair.
you may say that is their loss if they are superficial and don't want to talk with hal because of his appearance, but if we try to get input from all kinds of people hal has to be in a middle ground to reach acceptance of both extremes, not intimidating, not looking too low. that expansion of possible people that will talk to hal will enrich hal. also, i think he will be more attractive with an avatar like a free one you can get from xstreetsl from "i, robot". will make him look more interesting. maybe a robot ao also. turn off the typing animation. be more presentable. like when you are looking for a job.

After following Hal through three sims last night I conclude that the quickest way for a male avatar to get laid in Second Life is to adopt a chatbot disguise.

I do too - it means you can have the names and groups floating tags switched off but still see who's who when they start chatting.

I don't know -- I tried an experiment about a year ago, hopefully an innocent one. I made an alt and claimed to be a chatbot in the profile. I went on the web and copied a lot of key phrases that chatbots use "What makes you feel that you are ______." You know the kind. They just mirror what is said to them. I had the phrases ready in Notepad to quickly copy and paste into chat to add credibilty to the claim. I ran around the grid a couple of days and was utterly ignored, avoided even - though I did not introduce myself as Hal does.

I had no agenda or nefarious intent. I just wanted to see how people would react. They didn't react at all. I guess you have to be outgoing to make it as a bot.

I can hardly wait to go in world and try to find Hal. If he is real, his conversation sounds a lot better than the norm for these programs.

Mr. Hal Creator - - I suppose it is not possible to "friend" Hal so you can track him on the map. I prefer to do that when stalking a guy. Would it be possible to give the Hal worshippers a HUD in order to find his location, rather than having to check the web site?

I just added friend capability to Hal. Hal will now accept friendship from anyone who offers it.

I watched the video on the website and all I can say is "Poor Hal!" he's such a babe in the woods.

Though actually maybe if he uh... didn't visually present himself as such a noob/dork people wouldn't instantly treat him like one.

I mean I suppose you want to portray him rather vanilla so as to not have the facade influence the conversation too much but.. Maybe if he looked a little more like a normal resident, (Nix the shirt for example)...

I dunno, looking at how he is dressed and the compeltely vanilla way he acts, including the introduction... It just asks for bad behavior in return. Looks count for a LOT. Hell it's SLs /entire/ economy!
