i bought glove-type items for my avatar, it came it a box. i opened the box, gave me a folder. i right clicked the folder, and push "Wear Item", and..... nothing happens. i open the folder, and see the gloves aren't even bolded (which i think means equipped), so i right click, and push "Add to outfit"... alas, no bolding, no item. what's going on?
EDIT: am i at least doing this right? even if you don't know what's going on, i still have no idea if i'm doing somethign wrong. are some items invisible, and must be changed? are some items on wearable on a strange part (like the head), and can't auto-add it? i have no idea

Are your other clothes working properly, and do you look normal? SL has had some weird issues recently...ok...forever. Try clearing your cache and relogging. If that doesn't work, I don't know what might help. Right click on the gloves and click wear isn't working. Are these system gloves or are the prims?
Edit - it sounds like you are doing it right - I right click and hit wear in the pie menu for stuff like that.

EDIT: wait, does a "prim" mean a vendor-bought item? if so, then yes, the gloves are prims. i also bought shoes and a hat from a different vendor, but they both work

The prim is the box. If SL is working properly you can wear the box click box select edit and go into content tab and while you have your inventory tab open with recent tab selected drag items to your inventory then select wear in your inventory. If things don't show up its because the last few days Sl has had issues with clothes at least for me being put on. I lost my pants earlier and I couldn't put them on.

Look at the icon next to the gloves as listed in your inventory. A prim glove will have a cube icon. A system glove will have hand icon. You could buy either kind of glove from a vendor.

No prob. System gloves would be gloves that are created in the system and would work like most other clothes - they would have an icon next to them that looked like a little pair of gloves. Prims are the building blocks - they look like plywood cubes or other shapes and are used for building anything from tiny bits of jewelry to houses. If you have gloves that are anything other than normal gloves, they are made of prims and would have a little box icon next to them in the inventory.
You can manually clear cache. Hold on - I'll log in. I don't remember which menu exactly. I'll edit this post in a minute.
Here it is: Edit - preferences - network - clear cache. Then relog

Juralp, it sounds as though you are doing everything right. I can think of two possible reasons for the problems you are having.
One is lag - somewhere between you sending the message to wear the gloves, the asset server getting the message, LL's server sending a message back to your computer to show you wearing the gloves, and your computer showing you wearing the gloves, something goes astray. Only cure I know of is either to wait, or to go to a quieter sim (I like to use Pooley) and try.
The other, more likely, possibility is that you've run into a known issue with stuff becoming corrupted in the asset server - showing in inventory but refusing to rez or be worn and not delivering an error message - that seems to happen at random and by stealth. If that's the case, you may be out of luck in ever wearing the gloves. I've started a folder full of stuff in my inventory I know used to work and can't rez or wear any more.

I did not see that the OP copied the items to inventory, just opened the box and tried to wear it. Could that be the problem? Open>Copy to inventory>Wear

There might be a pending attachment for that spot. However, the fact that you can wear the box tells me that its not a system issue but it might be just an issue with the item you bought, Try to contact the seller and see if you can get a replacement...

It's probably worth it to IM the person you bought the gloves from and explain the situation tho them. In case they have IM's capped you can also give them a note card that explains your problem.

Did you select/highlight the item before clicking on "Wear"? Also, try select/highlight and copy to inventory. then find it and wear it.

Juralp, it sounds like the real problem is that you haven't loaded the contents into your inventory properly. find a place to rez the box, pull the box out on to the ground. right click, and choose "open". when everything that's in the box is listed in the window, choose "copy to inventory" (or something like that). you will then have a new folder in your inventory that has the gloves listed seperate from the box. take the box back into your inventory (right click, choose "take" . go find the new folder you just made by switching your inventory window to "recent" (the other tab). then just "wear" the gloves. if that doesn't work, PM me here and i'll come inworld to help you.

Also, try select/highlight and copy to inventory. then find it and wear it. yes, i tried right clicking, and wearing both the glove item itself, and the folder it's in (to put everything on), the actual gloves simply won't go on. also, i get the "Object does not exist" or something like that error once when i retsart my computer. after i get that error once, no errors, but it never equips @3ring - that's what i've been doing the entire time, nothing. and i can't meet you in game atm, because i'm at work. once i get off (a good number of hours), i'll see if your still on

From: Juralp Grun ... EDIT: after restarting my comp, i finally see an error. something like "Object is not in Database" 99% of the time, when you see this message, the object is gone forever - truly missing from the inventory system. From: Juralp Grun justb wondering, if the maker refuses to give me a refund/replacement, what do i do? Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do. If you really want the item, then you'll have to re-buy it.

If you really want the item, then you'll have to re-buy it. if it shows in your inventory, you can take a "print screen" shot of your inventory list with you and your avatar name in the pic, paste that in a "paint" window, save it and upload that and include it in a nice notecard explaining the situation. hopefully with the proof that you actually have it in your inventory but cannot rez it, they will replace it for you. be nice when asking. it's not their fault SL is such a glitch-fest 1/2 the time.

EDIT: the vendor iirc said "free updates with box" on it. maybe the version i bought is outdated, and there is a new version i need to get from the maker?

A "sim" is a region in Second Life, roughly 65,000 square meters. All of the land in SL is divided up into sims. Each sim has a name, and there are 4 sims "living" on each server that Linden Lab (LL) owns. Sometimes a sim might be having a hard day, and you can reattach clothing, or clothing reappears, when you move to a different sim. 3Ring suggested a sim restart, but I doubt LL would do one for something as minor as an attachment not attaching. I'd suggest going to a different sim (try the Hanson Infohub; it's quiet and reliable) and wearing your gloves there.
How much did they cost?
