Yes and ok.

well you dont need to, but they wont let you be verified without. Otherwise, everyone here would have no problem as we've all used money in SL at some point, therefore proving we can use methods only available to legal adults (At least in the US as far as I know)

Oh, for pete's sake, couldn't you just post in one of the other 17 threads on this subject?

And what Okiphia said:)

Hi Jean,

You might find more information about what you may or may not have to provide in these current threads (this just from the RA front page BTW):

/327/36/227899/1.html

/327/23/228055/1.html

/327/01/228000/1.html

It seems to vary wildly depending on where you are.

It's not illegal for them to ask. They asked, you have the option to give it or not. If they ask and you give it, it was your choice. Not Illegal. If you don't give it you don't. Not Illegal. The only way it would be illegal is if they somehow got this info *without* your consent. I really wish people would stop saying it's illegal. It's not.

Forums are like tabloid newspapers... Doesn't really matter that it's not true, as long as it sounds good and/or makes people go "ooo!!!"

I think that is grey area at best, if in some countries it is against their laws to hand out that information, LL may or may not be able to ask them for it. I can not go around asking people to rob a bank and give me the proceeds, even if it is their choice wheather they rob it or not. If I ask someone to break a law and they do, the conspiracy to commit a crime charges start with me.

It's not illegal for people to give out this information generally, you just won't be protected by data protection laws in your own country for how the information is handled.

Name one country where it is illegal for you to give out your own information. Just one.

I think a few people might be confusing the regulations for companies with the regulations for private individuals.

And of course there's the fact that if you do voluntarily give up the information to an international company, you're no longer covered under your own country's privacy/data protection laws.

With Europeans being the largest population group in SL, it seems odd for LL to opt for only a US-based company (and a EU company would have far more luck trying to actually verify EU citizens).

Not just forums but life in general. Get enough people together, fill them full of something they can believe and it's on.... That is how riots start, that is how wars start and most likely how most religions started.
