There's an old post /327/ac/201686/1.html about this but I'm just wondering if people are becoming more accepting of it now or still don't really like it after trying it. I know I entitled it Voice on your Land...that's what I was interested about to begin with but I'd really like to hear from everyone about how they feel about Voice in SL now. Has it changed the atmosphere in clubs you go to? Is it more fun or less fun? Is it confusing along with text chat? Has it ruined the "magic" of a second life for you? Too much first life being brought in? Or is it enhancing your Second Life experience?

I didn't vote because it's not an issue of whether I'll use it, of course I will from time to time. The question for me is how often. For me that answer is currently "not very". That will likely change for must of us as time passes.

Clicked on in my land, and I wear a set of headphones with a mic while playing anyways. Haven't run into anyone with voice enable though to talk to. But I don't object to it.

It's off on the Land i Administrate, and it Stays off. I've discussed my reasons for it elsewhere, and they haven't Changed. The Owner of my Sim is in Full agreement, as are ALL the residents.
We don't want it.

Never. If I want to hear a voice I can pick up the phone. I want to keep SL a fantasy environment. What's coming next from first life? Bad smells? Wrinkles?
Taxes!!?
The 50/50 vote so far is interesting (although too early to be a trend). That may mean SL will segregate into voice users and non-voice users, two nations on one grid. I'm ok with that. All the voicers can have thier headsets surgically implanted and become a hive mind for all I care, and leave the rest of us alone.

I probably won't use it, but my new rental sim will be voice-enabled.

From: Aminom Marvin Great, another trollbait thread. Not sure the OP was intending to troll though - heck she only has 21 posts. Would be a really amateur troll Though Im sure your right will be trolls coming to the thread ... Just dont think that was the OP's intention (not that you are saying it was)

Have it enabled at my shop & my house. Comes in handy once in a while but not a "Use every day" feature. I like to communicate with customers & friends in any way they feel comfortable.

Voice is enabled on my small 4k land parcel, but I rarely have the feature enabled when I walk around on the various sims. I will use it in controlled one-on-one scenarios, but only then. I tried it a couple of times in large groups and it was confusing. Not afraid of voice, but not a fan of it either.

It's on and I want it but I use Linux so I can't have it. I can't really tell what the problem is with something you can turn off anyway.

From: Aminom Marvin Great, another trollbait thread. Doesn't mean you have to take the bait. I'm not interested in voice, it will not be activated on my home land.

Especially on my home land, it's active (and there's only me and he with access there anyway).
At Chocolat there is voice. If people deliberately abuse it to annoy other users then they'll be dealt with as griefers. Otherwise, gentle advice and support will be provided for them.
No one else HAS to use voice on my land but for me it's a definite. Apologies for those listening to my dulcet tones (or more likely me cackling like a demented old witch!).
Broccoli ... where on earth do you hang out? How can you not have found ANYONE who wants to talk to you?

What Voice?
08-16-2007 05:19
It's weird, but I haven't come across voice at all, and no one I know wants it, and no on one uses it. I equipped myself and tried it once (on the beta grid) and really did not like it 'cos it took the fatasy out of SL, and now, to my relief, I find everyone ignoring it. I finally disabled voice in my (much visited) sim and have not had one request to turn it back on!

But how do you use something that doesn't work?
This voice system is about the worse one I've ever seen and tried and more then half the times it doesn't work, period. And if by magic you do get it to work, you then have to deal with background noises drowning out voice since those sliders are useless.

I haven't run into a whole lot of people yet who use it, although I've used it with some of my RL friends who are in SL. I was in a large shop the other day and ran into several people who had voice enabled. It was really enjoyable actually - a couple of them were from other countries and had beautiful accents. I'd wander in on bits of conversation and several of us said hello to each other and chatted a bit. Several people said it seems "more natural" and "more sociable" this way. In short, I enjoy both text and voice chat, they both have their charms and I'll talk to anybody whichever way they feel most comfortable.

I'm on the old client as well, but I filed a Support Ticket asking LL to turn off Voice on my land for me as I did not want that new client due to the cluttered Communicate UI. Supposedly they did. At least the response to the Ticket stated they did. Not many of my friends are using Voice so it's hard to check lol ~Jessy

Since this post has been regurgitated over and over...I'll regurgitate my opinion:
You should always give people the option to use voice if they want. If it's a live event, or dance floor parcel...you can turn it off. But generally speaking, sims should have it ON.
{see: opinion}

They can go to a sim that does have it on. The only people that should have the choice of wether it is on or not is the landowner. Which is how LL set it up thankfully. I personally find it disruptive and I am still waiting for LL to explain how we are to AR someone for harrasment over the Voice system. It's not like we can log it. Yes, we can Mute them, but if you have a place set for Voice for a reason and one person continues to come in with alt after alt after alt...*shrugs* Same as any other form of griefing, but we have no way to AR it. ~Jessy

I suppose there is no way of winning this arguement--if you truly feel the choice lies in WHERE we go for voice...then I feel you'll just not see things my way. I personaly feel like the option should lie in the hands of the user...each user...not one land owner. We really don't have a choice, if you disable it. Telling us we do have a choice--elsewhere--isn't really the same thing. *shrugs*

What difference is Voice? I can't build in a club, but I want to build. What do I do? I go somewhere that allows building. You want Voice, but the place you're at doesn't allow it. What do you do. Go somewhere that allows Voice. Alternatively, you can also use 3rd Party vocie systems that are not dependant up SL. Skype. Ventillo. Etc. ~Jessy

~Jessy You won't see it my way--clearly by your response. Here is how I got there: Your building example holds no water. Building is a solo activity. Voice was implimented for the community as a whole. Two completely different aspects to SL. This is why it's hard to properly discuss the situation--people have certain things in their mind...and they won't be swayed. I'm tired of getting into meaningless flame-wars with people just because we don't see eye-to-eye (not that this is a flame-war at all...just expressing an obvious pattern around the boards) We'll just agree to disagree. You have a choice to disable, so you're happy. No biggie.
