Something terribly wrong has happened to one of the great creative ventures of Second Life. Privateer Space is closed. I don't know what lead up to it. The builds aren't destroyed. But this is just not what I would ever expected to see. (T_T) http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=287164http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=287166http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=287167http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=287168The land description reads: "Do to Linden labs refusial to communicate on a dispute. This sim is now closed and will soon be deleated from the grid. It's just a waste to expend Concierge funds and all this time and skill and not be able to talk to a single human with" (T_T)

I just saw your Snapzilla pictures of this.... whatever the problem was, it's a terrible shame. Privateer Space is an amazing place.... I haven't even seen all of it yet! I hope whatever it is, it can be resolved.

((( I know most things in SL are transient, but Privateer Space is beyond brilliant. I really, really hope that whatever the issue is can be resolved.

From: Imnotgoing Sideways Uh oh.... another great project falls victim to SL dramah. I hope Aley Arai has got it all backed up in rezzing boxes so it can be spawned again when this bout of dramah subsides. The Privateer Space is, as Virrginia Tombola pointed out, beyond brilliant. Then again Aley Arai is an incredibly creative type... mebbe it's just a smokescreen to clear the sim while she cooks up her next project. Who knows? We watch for further developments.

I hope there is a back-up copy of this place in OpenSim.
I recreated Anubia there for just such an eventuality.

or maybe she'll just come back as another av with the initials "AA" and give it another go once she's cooled off.
seems like something similar has happened before.
this wouldn't be the first time LL's practices has driven a supremely talented creator out of SL, but until there's another platform like this for her to express her genius, what can she do?
no amount of public support helped, last time.
ultimately, it's her decision to close Privateer Space.
on the plus side, maybe she'll cook up yet more fantastic work on the next go 'round.

well, looking at this i would like to point out that my own project, which has grown into somewhat of a constant for many SL residents, was almost destroyed before it ever had a chance by the lack of communication of LL as well. I know exactly how this feels and I understand this decission perfectly. personally i had the luck of receiving tremendous amounts of patience, time and money out of the many supporters I had for months, which all together were barely enough to make up for LL refusing to invest 15 minutes of their precious time to LISTEN, THINK and ANSWER to an issue.
As far as Im concerned, LL doesnt exist. A problem is either solved without them, or it is not solved at all and as such I will never fool myself into feeling safe here. On the day I need their help again I am prepared to just let it be and shut down everything I brought here without looking back.

I can understand completely why the owner of Privateer Space has done this. I too have had an awful time over a dispute with the makers of this "game", and because of my anger over this, I was well on my way to leaving forever.
It's only my good friends that I have made here, that is now keeping me here.
The only response really I got when I sent support tickets to try to get help over some problem they had that affected me was to tell me off, tell me not to write again and that I was spamming their system because I sent three tickets! I sent three tickets, because they just did not acknowledge the earlier ones! I tried other things like Live Chat but was ignored the three times I went that route, apart from someone saying hallo, how can I help you. That was it!!
I have just tucked away into my inventory, my project that I have been working on for a year! I have now sold all my land, I rather feel that they don't deserve any money from me when they can't even help sort out a problem of their making!
So, I am starting a totally new life here as a nomad to go wandering over the grid, hopefully this will bring back the enjoyment and enthusiasm I once had for this virtual life which has been totally wrecked by the people who own this game and want us here!
I wish all the best to the owner of Privateer Space (and anyone else who has found themselves in this situation) and if the message on that sim is saying it will be deleted, I hope they won't leave here completely, but think again (like I did) and maybe just start a new kind of life here.

Concierge residents do have access to phone support and live chat, both staffed by living, breathing humans. I do think it's outrageous how long support tickets take to be addressed, but I've never had an issue that LL didn't make right once they finally got around to it. At any rate, I hope someone's able to shed more light here.

When I was there, it was not yet torn down. All the builds are in place, banlined, and wrapped in megaprims with the "closed" alpha texture all over... As you can see in the pics. It took some very intense cam-fu to get what I was able to capture. From what I hear, there may have been an AR and/or unjust suspension involved. Beyond that, I have no details. Aley is getting some support from friends inworld and I've already seen picket signs made. She is a concierge member and should have access to support channels unavailable to most of us. Somehow, this time, it seems those channels are closed. What other options are available? (>_<

Add me to the list of people who have fond memories of this build.. From: someone The land description reads: "Do to Linden labs refusial to communicate on a dispute. This sim is now closed and will soon be deleated from the grid. It's just a waste to expend Concierge funds and all this time and skill and not be able to talk to a single human with" LL really needs to work more on issues like this. There seems to be some rule/culture at LL that if you've already talked to one support person, everybody else there will just point you back to that person or ignore you. I'm no Desmond or Ashne but I also pay conceirge US$ every month and have also had them pull this sort of crap on me, though not yet to the extent that I pack up and leave. It really sucks when you get a support person who's not interested in going beyond their set of scripted answers. Maybe somebody friendly with Jack (who owns support, I think) or some other Management Linden could nicely ask for somebody to take a peek at Aley's support history?

Privateer Space should never die!
06-27-2008 10:50
I was one of the first people to visit Privateer Space when it first opend to the puplic and continued to go back to see every update. During my trips I found areas and got vehicles (sorry they are no-trans) that most people wouldn't have known about, one of my PS ships was personaly given to me by Aley her self and with out the SpaceBug and her help my hoverboards would never have exsisted. In older posts I recommended Privateer Space to people looking for a place to explore and test aircraft they made. I don't want have to cancel those reconindations! I have counted four huge highlights of Privateer Space form Aley's remarks: 1. When she first got the region 2. "Havok 4 saved Privateer Space" (quoted by Aley) 3.Privateer Space found its way into the Showcase (and it is still there) 4.When the build height was raised, this is the first time when stuff started appering above the greenhouse station I aslo enjoyed Privateer Space, because it was the only non-RP, non-commercal sci-fi region that was safe for all AV types. I hate finding sci-fi regions that are RP strict or are nothing but a giant mall, they ruin my fun! On a final note, we should find the resident who started this mess and give them a taste of their own medicine (ban them from your land, boycot theirs, and force feed them what they did to the rest of us), if don't like it; tough, they can't stop us Aley has too many freinds and fans of Privateer Space for them to control!

Got a link to somewhere that gives the story?

OK Lindens, its time to fix this. Aley can be a pill at times , but considering that she spent thousands of hours creating a showcase sim, thats loved by everyone who finds it. Non profit, no rp, just explore and have fun. I really think a 5 minute phone call is not to much to ask.
