Wow, going to be an interesting sound my lindens make as they zoom away.

..in a furry avatar full of flexi and alpha prims, my ARC is lower than quite a few people I just saw. fff.

i could not care less about a virtual fundraiser for a charity in a country that to a large degree does not even acknowledge the existance of the world outside its borders.

now, if there was an european RfL, or german even, that would be a different thing.
But as it stands now i will do my donating for good causes outside SL, as usual.

Oh dear. I'm stepping back away from this one, but will be curious enough to watch the sparks fly.

*boggles* Very odd...

although one should look at a charity on its merits, not on its locale.

I'll just quietly wonder where all that Foreign Aid money goes. And step back.

Even if that charity helps research that is shared around the world........good plan.

OK, NOW I'm stepping back.

Oh don't be silly. It can't be of any good if the word American is attached to it.

After all, look at American Cheese.........yuck! Or American Idol....or......I better shut up. I think I'm doing more harm than good here.

What is it about our vanity that some of us cannot take off the attachments, the hair, and go barefoot? As I flew (slowly) about with my ARC of 1, I couldn't help but notice ARCs of 4k, 5k, even 6k...I know ARC isn't the be all and end all of measurment but dang....
Attachments don't cause physics lag. If you're "swimming through jello" it's not caused by attachments.

On a positive note within 45 mins of the start of the fair at 10am they had taken over 505,000L$ already to donate to RFL

What a great start :)

If you go to the Lemania store at the 4th Island you can pick up a free skin that looks like an acrobats outfit to me (lol) and if you detach everything you can have an ARC of 1. Now...if only everyone would do this.

Either that or do what I've done and make pitch black skin to wear...hehe.

I'm not taking off my hair and putting on a bane skin just to make things easier on the luddites who won't part with their Radeon 9200.

And it would do nothing to prevent the "wading through jello" effect.

I'm curious about this and won't pretend to already have an understanding. Argent, are you saying the ARC has nothing to do with the lag? I never believed it was the only impact but I understood it to have some. Would be interested to hear if all the attachments etc truly had nothing to do with the jello/pea soup we get at events like this.

ARC has nothing to do with server-side lag. ARC is "Avatar Rendering Cost". Rendering is the part that happens in your computer... so ARC is a very rough estimate of how hard an avatar makes your CPU and GPU perform. High ARC may cut your display FPS, but unless your FPS is down in the "stroboscope" range of a couple of frames per second it's not going to make you feel like you're embedded in jello.

The best thing you can do to cut down the effect your avatar has on the server is to sit down, so it's non-physical and part of a non-physical object.
